Walkers news: August 1 -- St. Louis 3, Evansville 0
Record: 62-41, 2nd, 2.5 GA Des Moines
Jerry Tate continues his impressive rookie season throwing 6.2 shutout innings to help St. Louis defeat Evansville 3-0 at Busch Stadium (1997). The win allowed the River Walkers to split their four-game series with the Bosses. Tate (11-1), allowed just three hits in his time on the mound. He struck out seven and walked two. The 29-year-old right-hander left after allowing a two-out single to Josh Lynch in the seventh. Reliever Josh Grissom struck out Andrew Allison to end the inning. St. Louis had scored all three of its runs by the time the seventh inning rolled around. Tate scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third. He failed to get down a bunt after Ricky Liriano drew a lead-off walk from Evansville starter Ray Pocock. A Matt Fulton single moved Tate to second, and he scored on a Jose Ramirez double. Ramirez had all three of the St. Louis' RBIs, as he hit a two-run homer off Pocock in the fifth to make it 3-0. Grissom got the first out of the eighth inning for St. Loiuis. Yeison Santos recorded the final two. Ernesto Barbosa increased his save total to 28 after a scoreless ninth. |

Walkers news: August 2 -- Quad City 6, St. Louis 1
Record: 62-42, 2nd, 3.5 GB Des Moines
Kaneo Kawamoto's first start since his second stint on the injured list of the 2032 season was not pleasant, as Quad City roughed him up for five runs in 4.2 innings as the Thunder won 6-1 at Fenway Park (1976). Coming off forearm injury which had kept him from starting in the majors since July 10, Kawamoto gave up single runs in the second and third innings, before getting chased when QC scored three in the fifth to make it 5-1. Bobby Wescott opened the scoring with a solo homer off Kawamoto with one out in the bottom of the second. Cesar Silva led off the third with a double and scored on a Chase Davis single. Davis hit a three-run homer off Kawamoto in the fifth as the Thunder gap reached 5-1. Jacob Gonzalez drove in the game's final run when he led off the bottom of the seventh with a homer off Walkers reliever Nick Ruffalo.
