Official OOTP 22 initial impressions thread!

So far, I am liking this version of OOTP a lot! I'm enjoying the new features and the updated 3D graphics. There are some issues that I have that are minor, but other than that, it's been great.

The new 3d fields look so amazing! Wow just noticed i just finished my first game with the Cubs and when i returned to the Live coverage page and the Marlins/Rays and Cardinals/Reds are still in progress. Nice to see that.

My first impressions is that I'm impressed. A lot of work has been done. Very nice job by the team. Cosmetically and with the ani's was improved from what I see. Even saw the centerfielder after diving to make a catch, hold up his arm to show he caught the ball. That was cool. The team is the best. Thank you.

Markus, asked earlier about further suggestions on how to fix the choppy 3D game play but didn't get any responses.

Have tried what suggestions I saw to others in several threads - changing the frame speed, lowering audience settings, shutting down and restarting - both game and computer. Nothing has helped.

Very frustrating and disappointing. The game looks absolutely great and have really been anticipating it, but it is virtually impossible to play out games for me. I got a terrible headache in 15 minutes of watching the choppy simulations last night.

I am using a 2019 MacBook Pro that has worked very well for past versions (had MacBooks prior to this one as well).

Any suggestions/help anyone can give?

We looked into this a bit more and found that it seems to be related to using Mac OS 10 in most cases.

Several folks reported than when upgrading from Mac OS 10 to Mac OS 11, that fixed similar issues. We'll actually be changing the minimum requirements to list Mac OS 11 to reflect this going forward due to this.

So if you are on Mac OS 10 now and it's possible to upgrade, we'd recommend you do that. If that's not possible for some reason, you can open a support ticket and let the support guys try to work through some additional troubleshooting that might help things or we can also do a refund, worst case scenario.

Or alternately, if you're not on Mac OS 10 but a later version, do let us know exactly which version you're on.

Thanks. I am on Catalina 10.15.7. I have been holding off on the Big Sur OS11 because I kept hearing there were so many problems with it.

I guess I'll back everything up and maybe go ahead with the software update. May start running into these problems with other things going forward, as well.

On a newer MacBook Pro, the game isn't choppy when watching for me, but I am having an issue with the display. Makes the game very unenjoyable to watch with the top half of the action being all black . I didn't have this problem with 21 so I'm hoping there's a setting that I can configure to make this better.

Any help would be great!

Same problem here. And similar display problems in ballpark construction kit. New Mac with latest OS.

I agree with you. It's just a potential solution since I doubt they're gonna rework the ratings completely before the official release.

Don't forget to turn league evolution OFF unless you want it active as it's ON by default for MLB leagues.

I always go through all of the game setting screens before playing.

I haven't looked for new coaches yet, but if this is true, I must say that i agree that is a bad choice by the devs. With the whole expanded coaching staffs, that's even more time that will have to spent doing menial work of looking through hundreds of coaches that would be better spent elsewhere.

Maybe it's not such a high priority for those who just play a single season or whatnot. Doing it once or twice would be fine for the "novelty", but for those of us who love the franchise aspect and advancing so far in the future, this is definitely a negative the way I see it.

We're reworking some part of the ratings for certain players each day as stuff happens in ST. Not to say you'll necessarily see a huge amount of noticeable changes in two-three days time but there will be some.

Betances is very much on the list to be reevaluated, especially if he doesn't even make the team.

How come when viewing past championships teams only the manager is shown? It used to be all players on the 40 man roster. What happened?

Early impressions:

• I've decided I like most of the UI changes. I wasn't sure about the rounded elements at first but they've grown on me. The only place I don't like them is in the player lists, especially when the up and down arrows are next to the player names. It looks messy. But everywhere else it looks good.
• The in-game 3D animations are much improved. It's always just been a bonus to have that (I was happy when they were just little pegs translating across the field), but it's starting to look really good.
• The game "feels" better optimized than in years past. Seems to run smoother and loading times seem shorter
• Haven't had a chance to get a feel for the new backend systems yet, like the trading AI
• In the end, it's still OOTP. I don't feel I need to buy this every year, but I do, and I have no ragrets

Sounds like a potential bug. I’d probably post that in the bug reports forum to play it safe. Perhaps it’s intentional, but in case it isn’t it should be noted.

I wan't able to download it until last night because I had been at work. I had some issues where I needed to download some updates first, and then some other priorities came up while I was waiting for that. Once I was finally able to play, it was BEAUTIFUL. Everything runs so smoothly and looks so good. My initial impression is that I am very impressed. We will see how I feel once I have played it some more.
