Bobb batted .385 (10-for-26) with no home runs and 5 RBIs this week on his way to the award.

Bobb is hitting .318 so far this season with 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has 28 hits including no home runs, 13 walks and .417 OBP.

24 July 2299 - Pennant Chase

The league champion for the regular season is still yet to be determined, but the true race is in the wildcard where the Cherry Ghoulrillas, Quantum Nukalurks, and Dark Bloodworms are all vying to meet the Quartz Star Force in the first-ever Nuka Series.

Cherry visits Dark, where a Bloodworms sweep could make this chase interesting. Well, Dark must sweep to have a chance. The Nukalurks need the Ghoulrillas to lose at least two and then win all three at Wild to either claim the wildcard or finish the season tied with the Ghoulrillas.

Got all that? It is a lot less complicated if Cherry just wins their first two or wins one and Quantum drops one. The Ghoulrillas have a 87.5% chance to clinch the second playoff spot.

Hmmm, things had been steady for long enough this movement, albeit small, kinda surprised me, though I suppose we do have some ways to go still technically, though also as a counter-counter point, the top slots in the various leagues are still tightly held.

24 July 2299 - Win Makes Cherry 46-36, Eliminates Dark

Cherry Ghoulrillas starter Nick Lopez was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Dark Bloodworms, 3-1. Lopez got the win, improving to 9-3. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Lopez allowed 1 run. Matt Mercadante was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 9 save opportunities.

A key at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, the batter, Macaw Lee Calkins, hit a bases-clearing double. It made the score 3-1, Cherry, and helped them go on to win.

In postgame comments to the Cherry Chronicle, Calkins said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

Cherry now has a record of 46-36 with the win, putting them one win away from clinching a spot in the Nuka Series.

I know you fans of Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach don't want to see a tight league race, but I do hope the leagues are not all double-digit differences. Sure, the playoffs can still be exciting, but the season gets to be boring with no competition. This season, however, there are four definitely good teams and all four lead their leagues currently.

Hodges, a native of Montague, Massachusetts, was dealing all game. He kept Dark hitters off-balance, while giving the Ghoulrillas 10 quality innings. Hodges threw 141 pitches, allowing 3 hits and striking out 6.

"Justin was throwing strikes, locating well," said Cherry manager Mack O'Shea.

"Exhilarating win," said Macn.

Jeffrey Curatolo had four hits for the Synths, all singles. Ryan Combs was 3 for 6 for the Party Boys with a double.

I'm not sure what the right word to describe my viewpoint on such matters is, but I find that I'm much more laid back than most sports fans when it comes "state of the league" matters, perhaps because I have graduate level education in statistics. You see those posts in the 22 forum right now complaining about a pitcher getting a season ending injury in the first game of the year... I know full well with so many people starting a new game right now, statistically, it's going to happen to someone. That's just how it works, that's just how *real life* works. Similarly, I know that sometimes you get several different teams winning it all in back to back years, and sometimes you get dynasties, such is the nature of the universe. It doesn't really bother me unless a single team wins something like 4+ times in a row, which is a lot more patience than the average fan has, even if it's a team I don't like doing the winning, and even if as it's all playing out I'm really pulling for someone, *anyone* else to win.

I guess what I'm saying is, seasons like this happen, and personally I'm just as excited at this point as I would be during a different season. Even if the lead seems set, there's always drama be to found somewhere, and you never know what can happen in playoffs! (Plus in a dynasty like yours, we have this nice narrative wrapping of the Fallout setting to provide extra-curricular drama too )

Thanks, I am happy to hear that. I would prefer the full-season pennant races, but that does not always happen in real life baseball either.

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

26 July 2299 - The Slog Ghouls Ship Aintfull to Concord

Newspapers in The Slog and Concord reported that the Ghouls have reached a deal sending 22-year-old LF Pockets Aintfull* and 20-year-old minor league LHP Smelly Schmelzer to the Radstags for 30-year-old RHP Gwinnett Southie and 20-year-old C Shawn Cherry.

Aintfull is currently batting .274 with no home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Southie has fanned 77 in 133 innings and collected a 7-8 record with a 4.53 ERA.

26 July 2299 - Nuka goes 3-for-4, Leads Silver Shroud to Win

Fort Hagen left fielder Andrew Nuka made his presence felt in the 9-5 Silver Shroud triumph over the Salem Witch Hats. Nuka was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. The winner was Brent Hooker, who threw 123 pitches over 8 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 11 hits. Fort Hagen improves to 52-28 with the win. They lead their division by 7 games.

Nuka contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Fort Hagen in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Nuka took a slider from Terrence Artman and stroked the home run to center. His 19th home run of the season allowed the Silver Shroud to leap in front, 3-2.

"We're just going to try to build off this win," said Nuka.

26 July 2299 - Sarnacki Sizzles, The Slog Fizzles

Bill Sarnacki was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the Sunshine Tidings Chemists hurler tossed a 3-hit, complete game shutout against the The Slog Ghouls.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Sarnacki. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Sarnacki walked 0 and struck out 6 in the 3-0 victory.

In season stats Sarnacki shows a 6-11 record in 20 games, 130.1 innings, 113 strikeouts and a 5.11 ERA.

26 July 2299 - Rose Helps Hancocks Beat Knuckle Punchers, 12-6

Goodneighbor took on Roxbury in front of a lively crowd.

John Rose impressed in the 12-6 Goodneighbor win over Roxbury. Rose, who finished 5th in the SCA in wins above replacement with 5.5 last year, was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The victory gives Goodneighbor a record of 55-25.

Goodneighbor used a well-timed hit by Burtie Cuttooth to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Hancocks ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We played hard and won," said Rose. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy."

26 July 2299 - With 5-2 Win, Synths Improve to 44-36

Lexington rode a decent outing from starter Lawdog Whipple to victory over the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. The final score was 5-2. Lexington has now won 4 in a row.

In the top of the ninth, Ryan Combs stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Party Boys were trailing 5-2, but had the bases loaded. That's when Adam Bias made a terrific pitch and Combs grounded out. Gone was the dream of a Nordhagen Beach comeback.

26 July 2299 - Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Swatters

Diamond City Swatters starter Tyler Powers was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Atom Cats, 5-1. Powers picked up the win for Diamond City, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 11-3. Diamond City, at 54-26, is 12 games up in the South Charles Association Railroad League.

Diamond City used the clutch hitting of Wayne Lacy to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Swatters ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Powers said.

July 2299 - News and Notes - July 28

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 July 2299 - Erickson Hits 2 HRs in Red Rockets Explosion at The Homestead

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets relied on the hitting of shortstop Aaron Erickson to stop the Warwick Mirelurks, 16-4. For the game, Erickson was 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He scored 4 runs and drove in 3.
Chris Teddybear picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 8. On the season, he is now 10-3. The triumph puts Jamaica Plain at 41-40 for the season.

Jamaica Plain relied on the hitting of Alan Setter to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Rockets on top, 12-3. For the game, Setter had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Erickson.

The Rockets had six team home runs. In addition to Erickson and Setter, Ayag Mour* (12), Carney Cornseed (18), and Cody Flatt (24) homered.

Melon Sanderson (16) hit two for the Mirelurks and Straight QuaLiTy (9) hit another.

28 July 2299 - Pettinato Pops Two Homers in 15-6 Win for Quincy

Ben Pettinato was instrumental in his team's 15-6 triumph over the Atom Cats. The third baseman went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for the Quincy Gunners. Ray Human got the win, improving to 7-5. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Atom is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.

Biggie Biggs hit a bases-clearing double off Sam Teflon in the bottom of the third, which put the Gunners in front, 6-3. In addition to the double, Biggs had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Biggs said.

28 July 2299 - County Crossing Lose, 7-0, to Party Boys, Beach

In a sharp 4-hit performance, Tommy Beach led the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys to a 7-0 shutout victory over the County Crossing Bloodbugs, fanning 8 and walking 1. He was also 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

"That's as good of stuff as I've seen in a long time," County Crossing manager Biff Future said in his postgame interview.

So far this season Beach has compiled a 10-7 record with a 3.36 ERA.

Dustin Mart finished 2 for 5 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI for the first-place Boys.

28 July 2299 - Chemists Jolt Silver Shroud, 3-2, with Late Rally

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists had to overcome a fine performance from Fort Hagen pitcher Matt Hope to grab a 3-2 win at ArcJet Systems Stadium. Hope allowed 2 runs over 8 innings. With the win, Sunshine Tidings goes to 34-47, while the Silver Shroud fall to 52-29.

James Darling was the walk-off hero for Sunshine Tidings. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Chemists pinch hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"It was a good effort all around," said Darling.

28 July 2299 - Swatters Upend T-51s, 3-2

The Diamond City Swatters picked up a win at Graygarden Park, knocking off the Oberland T-51s, 3-2. On the mound for Diamond City was right-hander Jason Haynes, who played a pivotal role in the win. Diamond City, at 55-26, is 13 games up in the South Charles Association Railroad League.

Diamond City used a well-timed hit by Tyler Ross to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Swatters ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"We squandered some opportunities," said Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand.

Haynes (3-2) allowed just one earned run on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Josh Samm picked up his 30th save on the season, leading the CBO. He is seven short of the CBO record.

NUKA SERIES PREVIEW

Quartz Star Force

Cherry Ghoulrillas

Team vs Team (Season Series: Cherry 9, Quartz 3)

Game 1 Lineups

Analysis and Predictions

While the Star Force whipped up on the rest of the NWL, they struggled mightily in head-to-head games with the Cherry Ghoulrillas. The teams first met twice in May. In the first series at Cherry, the Ghoulrillas got a three-game sweep, winning 5-0, 2-0, and 3-2. When they went to Quartz, the Ghoulrillas again won the series, losing 3-2 before winning 6-4 and 1-0.

Following the midseason break, the teams met the next time in June at Cherry. There, the Star Force finally won the series with a 4-3 win and 4-3 loss before taking the series with a 6-1 score in the rubber match. Their last face-off was two weeks ago in Quartz where the Ghoulrillas made their final playoff push with another sweep, winning 9-8, 2-1, and 3-0.

Quartz will need to win all three ace matchups with Laurence Crash (10-4, 1.11) taking on Justin Hodges (13-5, 1.57) to have its best chance. The Star Force's second pitcher, Justin's older brother, Kyle Hodges (6-1, 1.55) who also is the backup catcher, will also need to show what he has against Cherry's Chris Shields (7-4, 2.21). Mike Horne (2-4, 3.02) may have the most difficult task when he faces off against Cherry's Travis Campbell (9-9, 2.95).

Quartz has relied on the managing skills this season of Nick Caudill, who came to the Nuka World League following a successful run in the Boston Youth Development League with the North Charles Bank Goonies where he won three straight championships from 2296-2298 and five overall. He is a tactician who can best be defined as unconventional where he will try two-out bunts and running everyone on the bases, even catchers. Fortunately, that has aided the Star Force, leading the NWL in stolen bases (57) and second in Base Running (+7.5). Time will tell if he is just as aggressive in the Nuka Series.

In the opposite dugout, Cherry already has its own legend with success at a higher level, Mack O'Shea. O'Shea was the manager of The Slog Ghouls, where he won a CBO crown as one of the few full-time managers in 2296 and then won the Brotherhood League in 2297. In 2298, his team dropped to 3rd place in the league, missing the playoffs, and he was fired. Unlike Caudill, O'Shea is a meticulous, conventional manager who relies on the old ways of doing things. He is a control freak, so he requires everyone in the organization does what he says when he says to do it, making him offputting to some of the less serious personalities. Still, he gets results, relying on aggressive play calls without risky ones.

On offense, the Star Force will need to find a way to hit on the Cherry pitching. Spot Needlewind was the team leader with just a .254 average. Bell Clark and Billy Downtown both provided some power. The Star Force are 4th in runs (282) and home runs (69), but they must find more success to win the series.

For the Ghoulrillas, Andre Garden is their definitive star, hitting .244/19/66 to lead his team in all three categories. A down day by him means an almost sure loss for the Ghoulrillas, so Quartz may want to pitch around Garden and see what Rich Calvey (.196/4/23) and Roberto Cuevas (.167/8/32) can do. Leadoff Moonlight Graham (.249/13/32) is also dangerous, helping Cherry eke out a few more of their NWL-leading 300 runs.

In the end, our small staff at Nuka News has pounded out the numbers and scenarios, and we have this one going one way, all Cherry. We have the Ghoulrillas winning it four games to one, with our expected results:

Cherry 2 at Quartz 0
Cherry 4 at Quartz 1
Quartz 3 at Cherry 4
Quartz 2 at Cherry 1
Quartz 0 at Cherry 3

Series MVP: Travis Campbell (2-0, 1 ER)

29 July 2299 - Assman Socks 2 Home Runs in 9-8 Goodneighbor Win

Goodneighbor played host to University Point at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS.

Getting a good performance from first baseman Bryan Assman, the Goodneighbor Hancocks defeated the University Point Deathclaws, 9-8. Assman hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Hancocks. Goodneighbor reliever Matt Lambda picked up the win, while Chase Southie took the loss for University Point.

Good Don Duck hit a 3-run home run off Chase Southie in the bottom of the eighth, which put the Hancocks ahead, 9-8. In addition to the homer, Duck had 1 single and 1 double, while going 3 for 5.

"What a game," said Duck. "We needed every last run."

Goodneighbor is now 57-25, 9½ games up in the South Charles Association Minutemen League.

29 July 2299 - Bridges Now 3-2 After Subduing Red Rockets

Warwick got an elite performance from starting pitcher Brian Bridges in taking a 5-0 decision over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. The win puts Warwick at 33-49.

Bridges overpowered the Red Rockets. The Warwick left-hander allowed 3 hits over 8 innings, while recording 11 punchouts. With the win, he is 3-2 on the season.

"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Bridges.

29 July 2299 - Tentsleep Leads Ghouls to Win

The home crowd had a good time watching the Finch Farm Four Leafs and The Slog Ghouls get after it.

Lernz Tentsleep impressed in the 13-5 The Slog win over Finch Farm. Tentsleep, who is tied for 9th in the NCA with a .964 OPS, went 1 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Kent Rutledge got the save, his 1st in 2 chances.

With The Slog leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Tentsleep hit a fastball from Chad Behr for a 3-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Ghouls ahead, 4-0.

"It feels good to get this one," Tentsleep told the The Slog Herald.

With the victory, the Ghouls upped their record to 41-41.

Despite the loss, Peter Tatoeater of Finch Farm was the real star of the game. Tatoeater was 3 for 4 with two home runs, two runs, and three RBI.

29 July 2299 - Silver Shroud Win, 4-2, at Sunshine Tidings

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 4-2, in North Charles Association action at ArcJet Systems Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Fort Hagen pitcher and Boston, Massachusetts, native Mike Cartrette. Curtis Thriceshot converted his 25th save in 28 tries. With the win, Fort Hagen upped its record to 53-29.

Andrew Nuka, the fan-favorite, had a direct impact on the outcome. Nuka contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Fort Hagen up, 1-0.

"I made some pitches when I had to," said Cartrette.

Sunshine Tidings lost to the Shroud today, but Frank Corsica kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 1 hit. The Chemists center fielder has now delivered hits in 35 straight games.

"Frank has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Sunshine Tidings manager Cozy Burmaster told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had."

Frank Corsica grounded out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.

Corsica is currently hitting at a .375 pace with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs and has scored 49 times.

29 July 2299 - Bloodbugs Deal Party Boys 7-3 Loss

A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the County Crossing Bloodbugs and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys.

The County Crossing Bloodbugs topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 7-3, in North Charles Association action at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of County Crossing pitcher Gavin Eviritts. Eviritts, now 7-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs.

With the game tied, 3-3, in the top of the sixth, Eviritts had a key at-bat for County Crossing. With a runner on 2nd, Eviritts hit a run-scoring single off Julian Shed, making the score 4-3, Bloodbugs.

"I liked his command," said County Crossing manager Biff Future. "Gavin was throwing strikes."

The Bloodbugs raised their record to 31-51, a mere 26 back of the Boys.

29 July 2299 - Swatters Need Extra Frames to Get Past T-51s

Diamond City shortstop Wally Warwick contributed to his team's 9-8 win over the Oberland T-51s in 10 innings. Warwick, who is tied for 9th in the SCA with a .402 on-base percentage, went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Swatters. The current losing streak for Oberland has reached 4 games, pushing them into 3rd in the Railroad League.

Diamond City used the clutch hitting of Jason Watts to capture the win. The catcher drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Swatters ahead, 9-8. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Winning never gets dull," said Watts.

The game featured two of the premier pitchers of the CBO, but neither came ready to pitch. Diamond City's Tim Fusion saw the worst of it, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.2 innings. Sheng kawolski also struggled, allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Neither pitcher factored in the offensive explosion game's decision.

29 July 2299 - Quincy Gunners Ship Caravan to Atom for Fischler

The Gunners and Cats confirmed following the Cat's 6-3 win that a trade had been agreed upon. In the deal, Quincy will get 21-year-old RF Baywatch Fischler and 21-year-old minor league RHP Ross Flamenco, while Atom will receive 20-year-old minor league RHP Taco LaVergne, 21-year-old minor league 2B Jason Ringer, 27-year-old RF Kareem Caravan and 19-year-old minor league RHP Mat Nielsen.

This year Caravan is batting .192 with 7 home runs.

So far this season Fischler has put up a .273 batting average with 84 hits, 5 home runs and 30 RBIs.

I appreciate the responses!

First of all, the three straight initials of the responders are O-P-A, which reminds me of my Korean roots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZk...el=officialpsy

Second, I have no idea what happened to the NWL, but the lack of hits and runs has been driving me batty. I will try to improve those numbers in Season 2, but that is why Evan Guy predicted all scores to be low affairs. 1-0 would have been a better Game 1, 4, 7 guess. Maybe Games 2, 3, 5, and 6 can show some numbers above 5 in the runs category.

Third, you three posters are represented (in a way) by future stars of the league, granted that the high Talent Change Randomness does not wreck that.
