Perfect Team Stats VS Real Life

Are all the stats made up for these cards in the game OR are they statistically supposed to mirror Real Life with some algorithm with a high and low. REASON i'm asking is because some of the results so far are like all these stats are completely random. I have a real life card based on the year that the guy historically pitched 300 IPs with a .088 Whip. It's a diamond card, However after 1 day of games his whip against mostly bronze hitters is .133 I mean even on his worse day in real life this pitcher never pitched a .133 that year in his career so not understanding what's going on under the hood here. Can you not go by historical data and the game just uses a name and puts ratings to it like the face gen? IF so I'm out I thought this game tried to accurately portray like What If Sports putting a good statistical machine behind fantasy teams competing but so far just seems random, I Have a almost all diamond hitting core, and i faced a bronze pitcher and he pitched the game of his life i guess and had a 0.00 ERA vs my core of hitters that in real life should have scored about 20 runs against the guy... So just very confused on what is really running these Perfect Team game engine. I guess though if people knew it was completely random then the game would die lol.

Neither, really.

First of all the players are compared with their historical peers to generate the ratings. A player hitting 40 home runs in 2019 is very different from hitting 40 home runs in 1919 (much less impressive). With perfect team cramming together players from all different eras, this adjustment can be very significant.

Whip is about the worst possible statistic you could have chosen. OOTP uses a pitching model that resembles FIP, where only strikeouts, homers and walks count against the pitcher. Base hits are decided by the batter vs. the fielders, not the batter vs. pitchers. So if in real life a pitcher was supported by a fantastic defense, they don't get credit for that defensive wizardry in the game engine. In other words, if your WHIP is bad in OOTP, it's likely because of your defense, not the pitcher's fault.

TLDR - it's not random at all.
