Angry Draft Picks released and sign MiLB deals that are MLB contracts

I have found a bug involving 2021 (and 2022) draft picks that get released during offseason after they get drafted.
When they signed with a new team, their MiLB contract is turning in to a MLB deal.
Many of these players are going from rookie ball to MLB then being DFA'd.

Here is a video I put together with a few examples. This is a default save where I am (and have always been) unemployed.

Have you changed any of the settings, particularly as far as roster limits or rule 5 eligibility?

The most helpful thing would be to have the league files from this save, than just the video. If you can upload those or post a link to them on Dropbox/Google Drive etc. that would be much appreciated!

I haven't changed any settings. The only thing of note would be that the league auto evolved to shrink 40 man rosters down to 38 after the 2021 season.

Mikulski was once the 18th best prospect in MLB.

Thumbs down This draftee was traded, but still got MLB deal then DFA'd

Izaac Pacheco was a 1st round pick in 2021.

Edit: Found this odd transaction tree from SF on April 7 regarding Izaac.

We can take a look, but the 38-man roster for sure is not going to help with this sort of thing at all, or with the other thread you're posting as well. Those two less spots are kind of a really big deal with waiver logic, and I would naturally expect to see more things that look odd in an environment with a compressed '40-man' roster.

To really be able to get a good feel for if this a problem, and to what extent it is, it would be best to check this out in a save with the default 40-man rosters.

How would having a 38 player "40 man roster" cause an issue where players with limited pro experience having their contracts purchased from the minors (usually from rookie ball)?

I will create a new sim and turn off auto league evolution and provide you with an update.

The waiver and 40-man roster ai is super complex and even small changes that limit the ai can have cascading effects in unexpected ways.

That's not to say it's impossible you could see something similar in a default environment, but if you do, that will give us a lot more to go on.

Angry Kumar Rocker

Kumar Rocker was drafted 1st overall, but didn't sign and "became a free agent".

In his player editor it shows a "contract extension" of a "major league contract"

Yeah, this is a known bug that's already fixed on our end and will be in the next patch.

Unhappy New Sim - Same Issues

Started a brand new clean save and turned off auto league evolution.

First example I found is not a draftee, but did sign a MiLB contract after being released from another team.

Here is the waivers screen.

Here is his profile page showing he hasn't been above A Ball.

Here is his player history showing he was released.

Here is the player editor showing the "major league contract extension".

Here is the transaction log showing his contract being purchased from the DSL.

Ok, for sure that one's not right No way he should ever get a major league contract. Definitely would be good for us to see the league files here.

Question 2022 Rule 5 Draft includes 2021 Draftees

Just got to 2022 Rule 5 Draft and there are 195 players eligible to be drafted in the draft that shouldn't be.

It appears they were all drafted in 2021, released and signed elsewhere.

Arrow Here are the league files

Let me know if you can't get these files. I don't really use Google Drive.

Exclamation First draftee to hit waivers

Here is Michael Morales. 4th round pick from 2021.

As you will see on players history page, he was released and signed a milb deal with LAA.

This player actually ended up being claimed by KC (even though he hasn't pitched above rookie ball).

Once a player is released and signed as a minor league free agent, i believe the lose their Rule 5 protection. This has been this way in the game for a while and I am pretty sure confirmed as not a bug by the development team.

Yeah, that's not a bug, it's just how MLB rules work. What seems to be the issue from what I can see here is so many of these guys getting MLB contracts even when their ratings don't merit it.

I suppose you could argue that many recent draft picks getting released as well is not ideal, though in real life you do get a lot of guys released within a year or two of being drafted.
