Any way to recover lost game?

Hi all,

I am new to OOTP and don't know my way around very well. Today I went to play and received a series of error messages telling me my game was gone. I didn't think I had turned off the computer while saving or anything like that, but apparently something went wrong.

Anyway, I hadn't backed up the game (because I didn't know that was a thing) and while I realize it's probably gone for good, I wanted to see if there was any trick I might try to recover it, as well as any advice for how to avoid this happening again. For reference, here is the series of error messages I get:

"An error occurred while loading the database! Could not load world file"

Then...

"A problem occurred while loading the league files. Click OK to save the current files in a folder name 'incident' inside your league folder and to let OOTP try to restore your game to the state of the last previous successful save."

Then...

"The process failed to back up your potentially damaged saved game files, possibly due to lack of disk space. You can continue with the restore, but there will be no way to retrieve your potentially saved game files."

Then...

"The auto-save feature is not activated or did not work. Click OK to return to the previous screen. If you have a backup, restore the database using the Restore feature in the Preferences dialog. Please do not delete the 'incident' folder inside your league folder now. The files there will probably be helpful for finding the problem."

Sometimes I also get...

"The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version."

Any help at all (even just to tell me decisively that I'm screwed!) would be great. Thank you!

Oops, I see someone posted something very similar right below this. I have tried the workaround referenced there with no luck.

I'm resigning myself but still open to any suggestions!
