Diamond League update on the remaining fixtures:
Cary have 3 games against Paxville. Nowhere and Lemp Ave. have 7 against each other. If Cary win 2, it's all over. If Nowhere lose 2, it's over for them. And if Lemp Ave. lose 1, it's over for them. Things are only likely to get really interesting if Paxville pull off a miracle sweep, but that's... unlikely. No hard feelings towards Cary, but I'd love to win at least 2 to make the run in a little bit exciting.

Iron
Sugar Hill clinches in Iron. They will join Las Vegas and possibly Ostego in the playoffs. Lumberton will be relegated.

Stone
Gear Terrace takes the Stone title...in a tiebreaker!
The OL St131 season was decided on two back-to-back weekends in July, when Gear Terrace and Iron Maiden each hosted a 3-game series. The two teams met at Iron Maiden - OL Ballpark first, where the host Wasted Years took the first 2 games -- 2-1, 3-2 -- before dropping the Sunday game, 6-3. On the following weekend at Porirua Park, the host Warriors returned the serve, taking the first 2 games -- 8-3 and 9-2 -- before a 2-1 loss in the finale. It is the run differential head-to-head that gives Gear Terrace the season crown. The Warriors advance to the playoffs, with the Sunday Drivers also trying to make it, while Shoebox tries to stave off relegation. |

Diamond final standings.
Apart from sublime Annandale, OL teams had a rough season. However, Cary topped the only table that REALLY matters, so congratulations! Good luck to the Atom Smashers in the playoffs! I took the liberty of presenting my team with an award. Hope nobody minds...

The award is great! I took your idea and added "Our League" to it. Although it is a somewhat dubious distinction, I'm thinking we go ahead with it. Perhaps, starting in 2033, it can be for for the OL qualifying team with the lowest winning percentage. Anybody think that's a bit too tacky or insulting? Congratulations to Paxville for winning the first. Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 06-20-2021 at 08:51 AM. |

Mundys Hold On for Wire-to-Wire Win in OL B233
Port Ruppert traveled to Gettysburg and took the measure of the Bullets in two-of-three games to insure that their sprint from the gate held up for the length of the race. The Mundys posted a 4-2 September. Gettysburg had a busy OL schedule, but its 9-6 record wasn't enough to wrest the crown. They fired blanks in two-of-three season-ending games against Gem City, whom they had dominated up to that point, to seal their doom.
At this point, based on its record in PT play, Port Ruppert is headed to silver, regardless of playoff performance. In looking at the attached playoff tree, one can note that it is possible that the PT playoffs become an all OL affair when the conference finals round begins. Good luck to all. Left Coast and Gem City are headed to iron. Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 06-20-2021 at 08:08 AM. |

Gold league:
The Mad Brewers took care of business down the stretch and left no doubt as to their claim on the OL crown. Overall, the Mad Brewers claimed the division crown in the AC Central to nab a post season spot. Algoma found themselves in a three-way tie for the second wild card spot. When all the dust settled from those tie-breaker games, Algoma would emerge holding the final post season ticket for the AC. In the NC, Waffletown went down to the wire, heading into game 162 with 85 wins, facing off against Omaha (85 wins), and watching the scoreboard for the results of the Shinbone game (85 wins); knowing the three-way tie for the final wild card spot could end up a 2-way tie after that day. Waffletown would claim victory in the final game to move 1 game ahead of Omaha, then retreated to the clubhouse to watch the end of the Shinbone-Centreville game. The champagne corks flew in the Syrups clubhouse when Centreville took down Shinbone 5-2 to give Waffletown the sole possession of the final wild card spot. Coney Island will head back to Silver next season Promotion to Diamond will require advancing to the LCS (4 teams moving up) Last edited by stl jason; 06-20-2021 at 10:21 AM. |

Is this over kill?
Soliciting opinions as to whether we should have an award for highest overall winning percentage as well. Obviously, I am a fan of awards. However, I worry, does doing so detract from the prestige of the Wooden Spoons?
If folks think it's okay, I offer the Joe McCarthy Memorial Plaque for consideration. I love hockey awards (they are the best), hence the name. If this idea is approved, should we start this week? By the way, anybody doing silver? Last edited by Stanley Kuppchaser; 06-20-2021 at 01:33 PM. |

Gold playoffs:
it's a quick one-and-done for Algoma and Waffletown; leaving just the Silly Mad Brewers as the lone OL representative in the post season at Gold |
