Can you go bankrupt?

I was describing OOTP to my cousin and she asked me if it was possible to go bankrupt. Thought probably not but not sure.

BTW, she's impressed by the game based on my description. She's played several manager on the field games but nothing like this.

As a GM, you are only dealing with budget money allocated by the owner. So no, you can't go bankrupt.

You can find yourself in a really big financial hole where you're in debt and don't have the money to sign free agents or extend contracts but you can't go bankrupt

you can go so far in the red that it becomes impossible to compete. It would be cool if there was some mechanism that make it possible. though you could try p/r

I'm not sure if my cousin was intrigued or appalled by the possibility of bankruptcy. She seems interested in OOTP but her background is in games played from the perspective of field manager.

Yes. However she wants a play by play announcer like in Old Time Baseball and the LaRussa series. She knows she can't have who she REALLY wants. (Bob Prince!!!)

Never seen that but for first time I was fired. Main reason was financials were a mess. Was controlling the Reds in the mid to late 50s. Small market. Low fan interest. Awful attendance. In the red. My owner was somehow expecting me to make money (and playoffs), I wasnt so I was fired.

Glad I got to experience it. Owner was a d-bag. I had one of lowest payrolls and only way to really lower it was trade Frank Robinson. Probably wouldnt
go over well with already poor fan interest.
