News Around the League

16 May 2300 - Hit Parade: Gunsmith Pops 6 Hits

Today at Wattz Park, Justin Gunsmith put on an impressive display.

The Mystic Pines Raybathers second baseman tagged C.I.T. Ruins pitching for 6 hits in 7 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the C.I.T. Ruins Refractors by the score of 15-12.

"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Gunsmith said. "6-for-7 ain't bad in any league."

Despite the terrific performance, the Raybathers manager was unwilling to offer his second baseman much praise, saying he holds his "whole roster" accountable for losses.

"Justin told me 'Coach, I had 6 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager Justin Chops said.

Justin Gunsmith singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.

Currently Gunsmith is hitting .514 and has collected 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and scored 8 times, while playing in 7 games.

18 May - Injury Shuts Down Rutherford for Season

Shane Rutherford has to call it a season. The Postal Square Action Boys left fielder learned today that the full extent his injury suffered on 05/14/2300 is worse than hoped. He will not play again this year according to club doctors, who diagnosed the injury as a torn posterior cruciate ligament and stated that he would not be able to play for 6 months. The team will likely place Rutherford on the injured list today.

This season Rutherford is batting .310 with 18 hits, no home runs, 7 RBIs, 5 walks, .365 OBP and has scored 5 runs. He has played in 17 games.

Players of the Week

Raybathers Eiland CA Hitter of the Week: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Commonwealth Association, but last week Nate Eiland of the Mystic Pines Raybathers reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Eiland rocked opposing pitching for a .619 average (13-for-21), no home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award.

For the year Eiland is batting .275 with 22 hits and 2 home runs. He has scored 12 times and driven in 17.

MA Awards Player of the Week: Mike Pushard is respected by most Trinity Plaza Snipers fans for his no-frills style of play. The 24-year-old first baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .667 average (10-for-15) with 5 home runs, 7 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

Pushard is hitting .403 this season with 10 home runs, 16 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 31 hits in 77 at-bats.

Prospect Spotlight

Medford Memorial Hitter Award Watch

CA: SS Jason Giron, C.I.T. Ruins Refractors (Fort Hagen) - 37/83 (.446), 2 2B, 5 HR, 22 R, 15 RBI, 13 BB, 5 SO, 2 SB, CS
Analysis: Undrafted in the 2298 from the Cape Cod League's Truro Babies, Giron has been progressing well as an undrafted free agent signing. Not the most skilled defensive player, Giron has earned time on the field because his bat has surpassed most of the rest of the Refractors. Leads the CA in batting average, OBP (.520), OPS (1.171), hits, runs, OPS+ (206), and WOBA (.529).

MA: 1B Dusty Brownell, Boston Common Baby Bellies (University Point) - 31/71 (.437), 19 HR, 27 R, 41 RBI, 19 BB, 10 SO
Analysis: The unquestioned leader in the Medford Award in the Massachusetts Association, Brownell has pummeled opposing pitching so far this season. He is a Triple Crown threat, tied for batting average and leading in home runs, RBI, OBP (.556), Slugging% (1.239), OPS (1.795), WAR (2.8), runs, total bases (88), XBH (19), ISO (.803), OPS+ (368), WPA (3.02), and WOBA (.719).

Milton General Pitcher Award Watch

CA: SP Jason Bourque, Corvega Flamers (Sunshine Tidings) - 6 GS, 3-0, 1.80, 45.0 IP, 39 HA, 9 ER, 15 BB, 26 K
Analysis: Unlike the hitters, it is tough to find a dominant pitcher. Therefore, we nominate the former 2nd-round pick by The Slog. He leads the Commonwealth Association in only two categories: rWAR (2.4) and quality starts (6). Though he only has three decisions, the Flamers are 5-1 in his starts, with the only loss being a game he left after 8 innings with Corvega leading 3-1.

MA: SP Aldo Sanch, Haymarket Mall Commandos (Jamaica Plain) - 6 GS, 4-0, 1.45, 43.1 IP, 32 HA, 7 ER, 9 BB, 45 K
Analysis: The 3rd-round pick in the 2296 rookie draft, Sanch should get his shot at any point this season with the Red Rockets. Right now, he leads the MA in a few categories: WAR (1.9), IP, K, and rWAR (2.4).

2300 - BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the BYDL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

21 May 2300

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

NR Announces Player of the Week: Pipewrench Mathis burst onto the North Region stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie shortstop for Boston Harbor garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 15-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .600 (21-for-35) with 5 home runs and 18 RBIs last week.

This year Mathis is batting .411 with 81 hits and 16 home runs. He has scored 58 times and has batted in 48 runs.

South Region

Ball South Region's Hottest Hitter: Pitchers who faced the Jamaica-U Point Death Rockets last week were happy to see Diamond Ball in the rear-view mirror. The 16-year-old second baseman was dubbed the South Region Player of the Week for a 7-game tear that saw him hit at a .483 clip.

For the week he also chalked up 14 hits in 29 at-bats, 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

A look at his current stats shows Ball with a .522 average, 16 home runs, 48 RBIs and 41 runs scored. He has played in 33 games.

Milestones

Leaders End Mahan's Streak: The 39-game hitting streak of Lynn Pier Gamers second baseman Bill Mahan came to an end today at Ballpark of Hamden HS. The Fraternal Post 115 Leaders held him hitless in 2 at-bats and also sent the Gamers down to defeat, 11-6.

Later, Mahan acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him.

"It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one."

Presently Mahan is batting .403 and has collected 2 home runs, 26 RBIs, .469 OBP and scored 46 runs.

Hitting Streak Still Alive for Drool: Jake Drool, left fielder for the Pleasant Minigunners, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 41 games with 1 hit in his club's 9-5 victory today over the Circle Jerks at Ballpark of Nashua HS today.

"Not the outcome we wanted," Circle manager Josh Winegarden said. "There's never a good time to lose, and it's never fun to be on the wrong end of somebody else's accomplishment."
Jake Drool walked in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, flied out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

This season Drool is hitting .492 with 10 home runs.

Pitcher and Catcher Report

Below are some of the top-rated pitchers and catchers around the Boston Youth Development League regardless of class.

SP Ryan Goodpryce, Diamond City Newsboys, Junior - 11 GS, 6-1, 1.87, 67.1 IP, 57 HA, 14 ER, 22 BB, 88 K
Scouting Report: A bit short and slim for a top pitcher build. Sidearmer with working on a curve and changeup but almost primarily a top-of-the-line slider and a plus fastball. Can almost always hit his target, and that will aid him on the way to the 2301 draft. Needs to spend the 2301 season working on being a four-pitch pitcher or else he will be drafted low and converted to reliever or closer at best. Opinionated but more likely to offer criticism than solutions.

SP Mesquite Williams, North Charles Bank Goonies, Freshman - 14 G, 13 GS, 7-0, 3.29, 79.1 IP, 66 HA, 29 ER, 28 BB, 125 K
Scouting Report: Mostly a two-pitch pitcher as a freshman, but has worked on a changeup in practice. Mostly throws fastballs and sliders right now, but has shown a propensity to strike out batters. Not walking a lot of players but will need to work much more on his control to remain dominant at the next level. Not much of a personality. Shows up for practice but does not seem to be close with teammates.

SP Charred Lee Widemore, Hester Mechanists, Senior - 11 GS, 4-1, 3.54, 68.2 IP, 66 HA, 27 ER, 21 BB, 102 K
Scouting Report: Big and strong can make him intimidating on the mound. uses physical size and lines up closer on mound to righties. His curveball is nasty. He throws a good fastball and an OK changeup. Good at locating pitches. Not a heavily focused person. Adapts well to his coaching, having had several different coaches over the years. Could benefit from good coaching at the next level.

CL Dave Pain, Thompson Heights Earthlings, Junior - 11 G, 0-0, 7 SV, 0.96, 9.1 IP, 5 HA, ER, 3 BB, 17 K
Scouting Report: Depends on only two pitches which has designated him as a closer in the BYDL. Projects to be a closer in the CBO unless he ever expands his arsenal. Slider and cutter make him hard to hit at this level but easily hittable if he doesn't progress. However, he has the potential to have great stuff with good control and good enough movement to succeed. Not a great personality, though, which may not make teams fight to grab him. Scouts state he is "slow to lead, slow to learn, slow to participate."

C Booger Knights, Boston Harbor Harborfellows, Senior - 59/152 (.388), 8 2B, 15 HR, 42 R, 42 RBI, 24 BB, 35 SO, SB
Scouting Report: Good defensive catcher will make him a hot prospect in the 2300 draft. Arm strength could use work. Has shown a lot of success in the BYDL in hitting but there are chinks in his armor. His best bet will be to work the count and punish poor pitches. Not likely to be a .300 hitter, but could manage at .250/20/50 if he develops well. Not a baseball nut. Shows up to play but is often aloof and quiet on the field. Won't work to be the best so may have limits.

Nuka News Update

All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World

by Evan Guy

News of the Week

15 May - Nukalurks End Fireball's Streak: It was a doubly miserable day today for Steve Fireball of the Dark Bloodworms, as he saw his 24-game hitting streak end and his team lose 3-0 to the Quantum Nukalurks at World of Refreshment Field. The 26-year-old left fielder was held hitless in 4 at-bats by the Nukalurks.

"Anyone on a 24-game hitting streak is going to be a tough out," Quantum manager Scott Dancer said later. "But we had a plan and we were careful about it, and got it done."

This season Fireball has delivered 49 hits in 115 at-bats for a .426 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .445 clip and his totals also include 15 RBIs and 25 runs scored. This year Fireball has played in 25 games.

18 May - Ghoulrillas, Hodges Stonewall Quantum, 4-0: Justin Hodges of the Cherry Ghoulrillas mixed his pitches well and fashioned a 4-0 shutout today. The 25-year-old hurler shut down the Quantum offense, holding them to 2 hits. He struck out 7 while walking 2.

This year Hodges has a 4-3 record with a 2.55 ERA in 8 starts.

5-Hit Game for Lockpick: The Orange Tourists stopped the Dark Bloodworms by a score of 7-4 at Fizztop Mountain Park at Nuka-Town USA today, with the lion's share of the credit going to right fielder David Lockpick. The 27-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.

"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Lockpick said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."

Lockpick did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Bloodworms.

"Not much that I can say," offered Dark manager Jose Castillo. "He just hammered the heck out of us."

David Lockpick hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

So far this season Lockpick has hit .345 with 3 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 24 times.

Star Force Flame Out Against O'Brien, Gatorclaws: It wasn't easy but Bobby O'Brien made it look that way.

O'Brien silenced the Quartz Star Force, 5-0, in a Wild Gatorclaws triumph at Angry Anaconda Field at Safari Adventure today. Despite the appearance of dominance, O'Brien said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up no walks and 2 hits.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."

Starlight-Quartz Trade: Ballard for Woodstove: Starlight and Quartz have agreed to a trade today. 25-year-old minor league 1B Corey Ballard will go to the Star Force. In exchange the Lady Killers will receive 19-year-old minor league C Justin Woodstove.

19 May - Johnson Bangs Out 5 Base Hits: Victory center fielder Walton Johnson had a day to remember today, 5-for-6 against the Grape Painted Ghouls at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field as the Cave Crickets picked up a 14-7 victory.

"He was patient up there today," Victory skipper Gogetem Thompson told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly aggressive. Johnson has a tendency to chase bad balls sometimes."

Walton Johnson singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Matty Lamplight in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.

So far this season Johnson is hitting .333 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has 37 hits in 111 at-bats and a .373 OBP.

Gardenman on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Grape: Today at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field, Mike Gardenman led the Cave Crickets to a 14-7 triumph over the Grape Painted Ghouls. He collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats to help his club in the victory.

Mike Gardenman singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Matty Lamplight in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

In 29 games this year Gardenman has posted a .345 average and put up these numbers: 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

20 May - Needlewind Belts 5 Hits: Spot Needlewind said "it felt like taking batting practice" today at Angry Anaconda Field at Safari Adventure, and it showed in the box score. The Quartz left fielder had a fantastic 5-for-5 day against the Wild Gatorclaws, leading his club to victory, 7-5.

"I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Needlewind said later."

Spot Needlewind singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

So far this season Needlewind has gotten 34 hits in 119 at-bats for a .286 batting average with 2 home runs. His stats include 6 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has played in 30 games.

21 May - NWL Awards Best Batter Prize to Johnson: 22-year-old Walton Johnson sent shock waves through Nuka World League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Nuka World League Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Johnson made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .419 average, 13 hits in 31 at-bats, 4 home runs and 9 RBI.

Where the Victory Cave Crickets center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Johnson certainly made his mark last week.

Thus far this season Johnson is hitting .339 with 7 home runs, 19 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 39 hits in 115 at-bats and has played in 24 games.

Welcome to tonight's feature, Part 5 of "Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series." I am your host Philip Wallace. Tonight we are looking at the Next 10, Part 1, and how they started to change the youth leagues at the time of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization’s emergence. These changes were delayed by one year after the CBO began but they most certainly set the tone for the CBO taking over full control of the youth leagues as they have in 2300.

Our first look at the Next 10 begins with five of the teams, currently named the Andrew Station Southies, the Beantown Sprouts, the Concord-Lexington Minuteboys, the Frat Post 115 Leaders, and the Hester Mechanists.

Cue: Logo – Andrew Station Southies

The Southies were a part of five traveling teams who closed shop in 2297 and joined the newly-minted Boston Youth Development League. It was a conglomeration of teams participating in a single “league” but who hardly saw or knew of other teams far away due to traveling restrictions. The traveling teams had been something different, but many of them would not move too far away from their own areas to play other teams and many of them were used to playing “no-fence” rules, open ballparks that led to lots and lots and lots of runs scored.

In fact, the Southies, as they were first known during their travel team days, once reportedly had a final score of 100-82 in a game in 2294 against a team known as the Chemboosters. We have not found any data of that team and what happened to them. The Southies, though, were known as a tough club that liked to embarrass teams on their home turf.
Despite being a pretty tough club, there were few players over the traveling team years who found themselves in the CBO. It wasn’t until 2297 when they joined the BYDL and were able to gain a few players through a talent redistribution mostly aided by players from other regions. The Southies gained a few players to join their team and all reported having to “fight their way to acceptance.”

One of the players the Southies received was pitcher Emperry Alizm. Alizm was the Earthlings’ top pitcher from 2294-2296, including helping guide the Earthlings to the 2295 Sole Survivor Series. Alizm went to the Southies and immediately got the respect of his teammates, mostly because of the high-powered fastballs he would throw at their heads when they became too confident. Even though the Southies won few games in their 2297 campaign, Alizm went a perfect 9-0 in 12 starts. He was then taken as the 11th overall player in the 2297 Rookie Draft bu the Vault 81 Dwellers. Today, he pitches out of the bullpen for the Concord Radstags, hoping to break into the Starting Four soon.

A year later, the Southies again poached an Earthlings player, receiving catcher Racky Westheim, who went #18 overall in the 2298 draft. He now is on the CBO’s Oberland team, having started five games so far in 2300.

Cue: Music - "Civilization (Bongo, Bongo, Bongo)" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zndU...annyKaye-Topic

Cue: Logo – Beantown Sprouts

The Beantown Sprouts were a different brood than some of the other teams that joined the BYDL in 2297. Unlike some of the other teams, the Sprouts had no affiliations with traveling teams or their own youth team before that time. Based in Graygarden, there were only a few local youths at the time since the Graygarden area was mostly inhabited by traveling workers, most of them older who only needed to aid the robots maintaining the gardens.

Thanks to a few players, the Sprouts could be somewhat competitive, but that did not show in 2297 when they won only 9 of their 50 games played. One player they did receive in the talent redistribution was a talented outfielder, Gunner Eyesocket, from the Beerthirty Sippers. Eyesocket happened to explode in his final BYDL year in 2298 when he hit an even .500 in 25 appearances. He was not able to play all games that season, but when he was there, he averaged more than two hits a game, including 13 home runs in 2298.

Later, in the 2298 Rookie Draft, Eyesocket was selected 4th overall by the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. After starting every game for the BMU’s Haymarket Mall Commandos in 2299, Eyesocket has returned to the Commandos. In 21 games so far this season, Eyesocket is hitting .337, showing that the 21-year-old may not be far away from playing in the CBO.

Another of the traveling teams, the Concord-Lexington Minuteboys actually lost talent during the talent redistribution rather than gaining it. That meant a team that could have competed with any other team in the BYDL had less talent to work with than before.

The reason the Concord-Lexington team was so talented was because their traveling team was made up of their best players from their very own Concord-Lexington Youth League, established in 2293 and folding after the 2296 season. That league was made up of six teams: the Stingwings, Red Shirts, and Freedom Fighters in Concord and the Ghouls, Super Dupers, and Sexy Lexies in Lexington. They would often delay games against each other to put together their best squad to make an all-star traveling team. That team would then travel to places as far as Salem to play against teams from the Charlestown Youth League and the Charlestown Traveling Boys. They would also face off against the Goonies, Moonies, and Newsboys from time to time and any other teams they could find in Cambridge or other spots north of the Charles River.
When the talent redistribution occurred, some of the Concord-Lexington players decided to stay in places they had traveled before, actually giving a boost to North Charles Bank and South Charles Bank, who would regularly beat the Concord-Lexington team.

One good player to join Concord-Lexington was the younger brother of a CBO player, outfielder Moses Church. He hit an impressive .495 with the Minuteboys in 2298. Later the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, now the Roxbury Rad Sox, took him as the 12th overall pick. Like Jamaica Plain’s Eyesocket, Church is having a lot of success in the BMU. He plays for the Forest Grove Pugilists, batting .372 in 2300 with four home runs and 11 runs batted in in 21 games.

Cue: Logo – Frat Post 115 Leaders

The Frat Post 115 team was another of the teams that had no history in baseball, but they did receive a few players from the North Charles Bank Goonies who stayed closer to home during the talent redistribution.
The Goonies players were not anywhere near starting quality. In fact, the only player they received of value in 2297 was shortstop Max Standing from the Green Future team. Standing was a good player on a bad team. In two seasons and 41 total games with the Frat Post 115 team, Standing was one of only two players to hit above .300. The Frat Post 115 team was only 6-35 in those games.

Standing improved his stock in 2298, batting .415 with eight home runs and 29 runs batted in. He also committed only one error at shortstop. With that knowledge, the Atom Cats of the CBO made Standing the 19th overall pick in the 2298 draft.

The other player to hit over .300 during the time that Standing was there was Wolf McQuaid. McQuaid played second base in 2298 and then moved to shortstop in 2299. Thanks to his outstanding defense and a decent bat in the BYDL, McQuaid was drafted 9th overall in 2299 by the FHE Yao Guai.

Cue: Logo – Hester Mechanists

The final team we will look at in this week’s show is the Hester Mechanists team. Sponsored by the Mechanist herself, Isabel Cruz, the Mechanists benefitted from being one of the few youth league teams with money backing them. The talent redistribution, however, did not allow enough talent to compete against the established teams. But there were players who gained a lot with the Mechanists club.

Most of the original and local players for the 2297 team put together had parents working through the Hester Consumer Electronics shop. That first player that saw his stock rise suddenly was an OK player with Boston Common who played his final season in 2297 with the Mechanists. He was Er Temptation, a 2297 draft pick by the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, number 18 overall. In 26 games, Temptation hit more home runs, 13, than he had hit in two seasons with the Boston Common club. While his overall skills have appeared to be limited, Temptation is having his best BMU season yet. In 20 games with 16 starts, he is hitting .382 but only has one home run in 55 at bats.

In 2298, the Mechanists had one more standout, Bob Bloodbug. Bloodbug played with four different teams in four years, mostly because of his family moving often. In his final season in the BYDL, he hit .457 with Hester, helping him to be take as the 15th pick in the 2298 Rookie Draft by University Point. He has since been traded to the The Slog franchise where he plays with their BMU team, the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks.

This will conclude Part 5 of our History of the Boston Youth Development League here on BosCom TV. Tune in for Part 6 when we explore the second half of the "Next 10," ten teams added to the BYDL in 2297. Until then, enjoy some of this week’s highlights in the BYDL. See you next week on BosCom TV!

May 2300 - BNN Weekly Report - May 28

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 May 2300

News from Around the League

22 May - Arthur Tosses 5-0 Shutout for Nordhagen Beach: It was a great game for Chet Arthur of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. The 29-year-old hurler blanked the Concord Radstags 5-0, stopping them on 5 hits.

In 8 starts this season Arthur has notched a 4-3 record and a 3.08 ERA.

5-Hit Barrage by Williams: The Abernathy Adamantium swept past the The Slog Ghouls 10-3 today at Tarberry Field Forever, paced by left fielder Bloatfly Williams. The 22-year-old Williams got 5 hits in 5 at-bats, helping to down the Ghouls.

Bloatfly Williams was hit by a pitch in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

Williams is hitting at a .349 mark this season. His stats show 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has played 35 games for the Adamantium.

26 May - Season-Ending Injury for Teddybear: "Not what I wanted to hear," said Jamaica Plain's Chris Teddybear to reporters this afternoon, as he revealed that the injury he sustained on 05/23/2300 would force him to miss the rest of the season. "The doctor made it clear," Teddybear said. "There's no chance for me -- none at all -- to come back this year. That's the last thing I wanted to hear." Teddybear has been out of action since he suffered a torn labrum.

For the season Teddybear has compiled a 5-3 record with a 2.86 ERA.

27 May - Green Fashions Shutout Against Concord: It wasn't easy but the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud made it look that way.

Starter Derek Green shut out the Concord Radstags despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud cruised to victory, 5-0. Green allowed only 3 hits and rang up 9 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

To date this year in 10 starts, Green has crafted a 5-1 mark with a 2.08 ERA.

Yes, It's a No-No by Sizeman: FHE Yao Guai starter Peak Sizeman said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.

"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Sizeman recalled.

The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.

The FHE right-hander no-hit the Oberland T-51s 2-0 at Graygarden Park, finishing with 1 walks and 2 strikeouts, facing only 27 batters.

"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Sizeman admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."

For the year Sizeman has a 6-2 record with a 3.26 ERA in 12 starts.

28 May - Wallace Expected to Miss 6 Weeks: A blow for Phlip Wallace today -- team doctors were able to determine the full extent of his recent injury. He will miss 6 weeks with a sore shoulder. Wallace suffered the injury on 05/26/2300. The team will likely place Wallace on the injured list today.

This season Wallace has worked 71.2 innings with 58 strikeouts en route to a 6-2 record and a 2.89 ERA.

Players of the Week

Star of the Week Awarded in NCA: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North Charles Association, but last week Callie Love of the Abernathy Adamantium reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Love rocked opposing pitching for a .545 average (12-for-22), no home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award.

This season in 40 games Love is batting .276 with 1 home run, 14 RBIs and has scored 17 times.

Warwick Left Fielder Picked SCA Player of the Week: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Joe Whiskey Hagen, the Warwick Mirelurks 23-year-old left fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 8 hits in 12 at-bats, compiling a .667 average with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Hagen on the season is batting .322 with 10 home runs. His totals include 27 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has played in 37 games.

Analysis

The Top 5 saw two changes with the Minutemen League’s University Point and Goodneighbor dropping out and Abernathy and Quincy taking their place.

Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach return as #1 and #2, tied with Vault 81 (#3) with the CBO’s best record through 40 games. The Silver Shroud continue to dominate on offense in the NCA and hold the #1 Starters ERA in the CBO. They used a 3-2 week on the road with a split at Finch Farm (#21) and a series win over Concord (#17).

The Party Boys also went 3-2 during the week, splitting with the Radstags and then winning a series at Easy Town (#8), with the only loss coming from a blown save and extra innings win. The series win allowed the Boys to extend their league lead back to three games after the Assaultrons had made some leeway.

The Dwellers come in at #3, just missing out on a perfect week. They swept University Point (#6) and won the first two games versus Egret (#10) before dropping the Sunday game in 10 innings. Vault 81 is the best defensively efficient team in the CBO and lead the SCA in runs allowed. With the ML being a dog fight, the Dwellers have now taken full control of the SCA, up 3 games on the Big 3 in the ML and 5 games on the three teams tied for the Railroad League 2nd-place spot.

Abernathy comes in at #4 after a 4-1 week propelled them to just two games back of both Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach. The Adamantium knocked down The Slog (#15) in two games and then won Games 1 and 3 in defeating Sunshine Tidings (#23). We will perhaps take a look next week at their interesting journey, including being the team with the least runs allowed this season (136).

Quincy, our featured team this week, fills out the Top 5. The Gunners started the week with a home loss to Diamond City (#12) but then won the next four, including sweeping Warwick (#24). Quincy has shown itself to be a balanced team in hitting, running, pitching, and fielding. That could make them a heavy contender to win the ML.

On offense in the NCA, Easy Town’s CF Sean Samuels has started to make his mark by leading in multiple categories. Those include WAR (2.7), hits, (60), runs (39), total bases (105), extra-base hits (24), and WPA (2.73). Biter Trout of County Crossing leads the NCA in batting average (.397) and OBP (.519), and his status as a catcher may give him the edge in the MVP race.

In the SCA, FHE’s Joe Rathmann continues to light up the hits, leading in batting average (.433), OBP (.559), WAR (3.7), stolen bases (18), walks (42), amd WPA (3.91). He seems to have the MVP lead over Diamond City’s Oren Gep. Gep still leads in home runs (20), Slugging % (.870), OPS (1.341), total bases (127), extra-base hits (31), ISO (.493), OPS+ (238), and WOBA (.534).

There are still a large number of pitchers having a lot of success, making the pitching race more fun. It will be interesting to see if any pitchers start to distance themselves in either league. In the NCA, Fort Hagen’s Derek Green has been perhaps the most impressive. He leads the association in ERA (2.08), ERA+ (214), rWAR (3.1), BABIP (.230), Opponents average (.182), and quality starts (9), and he also is tied for the league lead in shutouts (2).

The SCA also has a problem with a jumbled bunch not separating themselves from the pack. One who may fall off is Egret’s Phlip Wallace after receiving the bad news that he will be out for the next six weeks with a bum shoulder. The current WAR leader (2.8) with a 6-2, 2.89, record, Wallace and the Ninjas will suffer during his absence. Vault 81’s Edwin Mass may be the de facto Vim! Pitcher Award leader at the moment. Mass (7-2) leads the SCA in ERA (2.37), complete games (5), WHIP (0.95), ERA+ (184), and rWAR (3.4). He is also tied with Oberland’s Sheng Kawolski and FHE’s Peak Sizeman for the most quality starts (9).

Team Focus: Quincy Gunners

We had a toss up this week between featuring Quincy and Abernathy since both are hot at the moment. Since we have only feature one Minutemen League team so far—University Point—the Gunners are our feature pick with Abernathy getting the go next week. If they remain hot, that is. As far as the Gunners are concerned, they have suddenly surged up to a three-way tie for 1st place in the ML and trail only Vault 81 for the best record in the SCA. The key to their success is that the Gunners are perhaps the best all-around balanced team in the CBO.

On offense, the Gunners are tied for 3rd in the SCA in runs scored (221), but they are best in batting average (.296) and OBP (.367). They definitely need to do a better job of producing runs. They single and walk teams to death, but they are only 8th in extra-base hits (119), including 1th in home runs (30). Should those numbers increase, Quincy would be the hands-on favorite to take the SCA this season. CF Steve Gunkill remains the teams biggest threat, leading in the Triple Crown categories (.387/7/31) on his team. RF Baywatch Fischler (.359), 1B Curtis Slingshot (.329), and SS Robbie Adams (.300) are all hitting over .300. So far this season, star 3B Ben Pettinato (.275/5/27) is having a down year, so expect him to turn around those numbers to more closely match his (.329/20/70) approximate career average.

Pitching has also been solid but not dominant with the 3rd-best runs allowed (179) and the 4th-best Starters ERA (4.53) and Bullpen ERA (4.21). They are the 5th-best in defensive efficiency (.690) but have the fewest errors (18). None of their four pitchers have been among the leaders in the SCA pitcher’s race, but they all have shown solid outings. Manny McDuff (5-4, 3.41) has been the most efficient, and ace Joey Dimes (6-4, 4.34) has been respectable. Closer Wick Prater (9 SV, 1.98) ERA is as good as a team can expect for a closer, with Jame Functionary (1-1, 3.38) and Nick Radio (0-0, 2.35) offering solid innings out of the bullpen.

Like most teams sitting in 1st place in their league, the Quincy Gunners are showing that they know how to pull out wins, especially at home (16-5) where only Fort Hagen’s 15-4 home winning percentage is better. Should Pettinato step it up and the Gunners offense find their gap and power hitting suddenly surging, they could run away with the ML crown in 2300 which would be a step up from their history of finishing in either 2nd or 3rd place.

May 2300 - BNN BMU Weekly Report

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the BMU

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 May 2300

News Around the League

23 May - 20-Game Hitting Streak for Covert: Nobody has been able to shut down Haymarket Mall Commandos left fielder Kevin Covert in recent days. The Fiddler's Green T-60s fared no better than the rest.

Today at The Trailer Yard, Covert picked up 1 hit in 5 at-bats en route to a 7-4 Commandos victory. It stretched his hitting string to 20 consecutive games.
Kevin Covert grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.

This season Covert is batting .423 with 4 home runs. His totals include 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Players of the Week

Star of the Week Picked in CA: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Joe Provisioner was rewarded with the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks first baseman hit .538 while collecting 7 hits in 13 at-bats, 3 home runs and 4 RBIs.

This season Provisioner is batting .299 with 15 RBIs, 18 runs scored and 7 home runs.

Sandifer Nabs MA Weekly Award: So far in his young career, Michaelangelo Sandifer has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Massachusetts Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 22-year-old Somerville Place Sentry Bots left fielder hit at a torrid .700 clip as he collected 7 hits in 10 at-bats, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

For the season Sandifer is hitting .372, batted in 22 runs with 7 home runs and 24 runs scored.

Prospect Spotlight

Ready Freddy: 3 Players Ready to Move Up to the CBO

This week we are focusing on three players we think are ready to make the move up to their CBO team based on ability, potential, and need by the CBO club. This is not necessarily those who lead in statistics.

For example, Boston Common's Dusty Brownell is an overwhelming favorite to win the Medford Memorial Hitter Award in the Massachusetts Association. However, the first baseman is better staying where he is because University Point already has one the best first basemen in Barker Cocoa. That could mean Brownell is good trade bait for the Deathclaws to offer when they are making a playoff push, but he is not ready to move up because of no need by the Claws.

Likewise, #2 prospect, CF Maxx Murtagh of Greentop Nursery (Nordhagen Beach) is definitely CBO ready, but who would he replace for the Party Boys? Ryan Combs (.354/2/13)? Jonathan Angelou (.303/8/21)? Michael Fogcrawler (.264/7/27)? Our answer is no one. Let him blow up as a must-have CBO player later, or trade him for help elsewhere, like shortstop. For the Boys, they would do best keeping Murtagh right where he is.

Without further ado, here are three players we at BNN think are ready to move up:

#6 Prospect - SP Nuke Laloosh, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) - 6 GS, 4-1, 2.85, 41.0 IP, 38 HA, 13 ER, 15 BB, 18 K
Analysis: Let's not kid ourselves. The 1st-overall pick in the 2299 Rookie Draft is ready for the CBO NOW! Laloosh is continuing the dominance he showed in the Boston Youth Development League last year when he had a 0.29 ERA. He is not as good as that in the BMU, but he is still dominating. Today, he would be the Rad Sox 2nd-best starter behind Beachboy Nut (5-3, 2.69), also a former #1 overall draft pick. The other three starters--Jack Arasmith (2-6, 5.60), Tyler Shuster (0-5, 6.57), and Jake Jennings (2-3, 5.96)--do not hold a glove to Laloosh. We're not sure why GM Honeycomb Halcomb has not called Laloosh up, but it should have been done 2 or 3 weeks ago.

#18 Prospect - LF Michaelangelo Sandifer, Somerville Place Sentry Bots (Egret) - 29/78 (.372), 2 2B, 7 HR, 24 R, 22 RBI, 22 BB, 10 SO
Analysis: Fresh off the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week Award, Sandifer has been hot all season. Egret decided to call up the #14 prospect, Bat Savelli, this season, but Savelli is struggling in his rookie campaign, hitting .254 as the leadoff hitter and holding on to a -0.2 WAR. Sandifer could be the player to replace Savelli, allowing the former 14th-overall pick to gain a little more pitch recognition back with the Sentry Bots.

#40 Prospect - LF Gargoyle Falcone, CIT Ruins Refractors (Fort Hagen) - 35/94 (.372), 3 2B, 3B, HR, 15 R, 20 RBI, 19 BB, 12 SO, 2 SB
Analysis: The 16th-overall pick of the 2298 Rookie Draft, Falcone has shown himself so far in 2300 to be a CBO-ready hitter. His extra-base hits are not tremendous right now, but he has a great OBP (.474, 3rd in CA) and seldom strikes out. He would replace, drumroll please, the Shroud's David Driftwood (.214/10/29) in the lineup. Driftwood is a great power hitter, but his batting average is falling each year, while his strikeouts hover around one a game. He has been a bust in Fort Hagen, and it is time for the team to move on with new blood.

Still nothing separating the top 3 in the South Charles Association. My bet is on Quincy, the offense is really good, the pitching looks like it can hold up, and I bet their tired of finishing out of first. Plus they were so close last season.

Just checking in again to say the narrative story is really good, on point. I know I said it before when saying take all the time you need to get it right, but I realized I never actually commented on the story itself. It's simply while I think it's one of the best parts of your body of work, I don't quite know what to comment about it. I really like the narrative stuff (I mean, the stats and analysis is good stuff too, keep that coming too, I just really really like the narrative stuff as well!).

The SCA teams in the Team Focus section have mostly been henpecked (except Vault 81) so far! NINE (!!!) SCA teams are currently .500 or above. Quincy may very well be the best team in their league, but of course Goodneighbor has been the silent team in that league so far. They are year in and year out up there, but they have not been noisy just yet.

Thank you! Just to clarify, do you mean the feature like the history of the BYDL that I am doing now and things like the Settlement features before?

P.S., call me crazy, but there needs to be ONE more expansion to this universe besides the other announced one. In other words, there are stories of two more leagues to come.

2300 - BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the BYDL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

28 May 2300

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

NR Names Sea Urchins Ross Winner: 18-year-old Boss Ross made a few Green Future headlines during this past week as the rookie third baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and North Region officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 16 hits in 24 at-bats to put up a .667 average. Ross collected 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

This season Ross is hitting at a .364 pace with 20 home runs, 59 RBIs and has scored 60 times.

South Region

Week's #1 Player: South Beach's Stevenski: Anyday Stevenski burst onto the South Region stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie first baseman for South Beach garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 15-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .583 (14-for-24) with 6 home runs and 14 RBIs last week.

For the season Stevenski has hit .354 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has played in 47 games and scored 46 times.

Milestones

Hitting Streak Still Alive for Drool: Pleasant left fielder Jake Drool keeps on racking up hits every time he plays.

His hitting streak now stands at 48 games after collecting 1 hit at West Hartford HS Grounds today. The Minigunners took the 5-1 victory over the Kendall Hospital Yahoos.

"I have been seeing the ball really good the last few weeks, but I am a bit surprised how things are working out," Drool said. "I've gotten a couple flares to drop in, so I've also been a little lucky."
Jake Drool singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, walked in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.

Currently Drool is batting .493 with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs.

More Seniors to Watch

Below are seniors eligible for the 2300 Rookie Draft that we have not yet featured.

CL Bobby Slavecamp, Andrew Station Southies - 19 G , 2-0, 13 SV, 3.26, 19.1 IP, 12 HA, 7 ER, 7 BB, 33 K
Scouting Report: Lefty with three pitches but only two he loves. His cutter and knuckle curve will cause him to have a pitching career in the CBO. He may move into middle relief at the highest level. He comes out throwing hard but has low agility, making him a 25 pitches a game kind of player. He won't develop into a starter. He is a baseball mole rat, though. He lives and breathes baseball, showing a love for his team and teammates.

3B Danny Marker, Andrew Station Southies - 78/211 (.370), 24 2B, 4 3B, HR, 53 R, 41 RBI, 38 BB, 42 SO, 6 SB, 3 CS
Scouting Report: Makes his legacy through his speed and his strong arm. His arm serves him well to play on the left side of the infield. He could also convert to outfield at the next level. He shows good plate discipline, but he does swing and miss too often. He seems that he can adapt well to any situation. He needs to harness his energy and improve his knowledge and understanding of the game.

RF Stu Gains, Boston Common Baby Bellies - 68/211 (.322), 11 2B, 15 HR, 50 R, 51 RBI, 32 BB, 45 SO
Scouting Report: Lots of raw power potential will mean he can produce runs for his team with his bat. He has the potential to have a great OBPS. That depends on improving his pitch recognition to avoid swinging at junk. Decent arm but otherwise needs his bat to earn him playing time. Another baseball mole rat who loves the game and will play from sun up until sun down. Seems built for success.

CF Lee Vitoo-Beever, Kendall Hospital Yahoos - 68/213 (.319), 15 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 46 R, 28 RBI, 31 BB, 46 SO, 5 SB, 3 CS
Scouting Report: Puts his heart into his defensive position but not the most talented outfielder out there. His speed is everything for defense and on base. Shows impressive bat speed, which could make him a home run hitter in time as his body mass develops. Needs to hit the weights. Scrappy and can steal a hit with a bunt. Ready to play at any moment. Can play anytime and anywhere.

SS Nate Trollight, Concord-Lexington Minuteboys - 79/203 (.389), 25 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 46 R, 36 RBI, 46 BB, 42 SO, 6 SB, CS
Scouting Report: Good speed helps him cover a lot of territory at SS and steal bases regularly. Understands the strike zone but needs to work more on making contact on balls in the strikezone. Needs to work on arm strength or he will be at 2B at the next level. Not a workout warrior but does what he is told in coaching and training.

Justin Salvage had an outstanding day at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field for the Dark Bloodworms today, ripping three home runs. Nonetheless, the Bloodworms fell to the Victory Cave Crickets, 16-10.

"Baseball is a funny game," Salvage said in the post-game interview, "You can't dwell on the reasons for the loss. I'm sure there will be days when I go 0-for-4 and we win. These things tend to even out."

Justin Salvage flied out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Frank Greene in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Joel Fields in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Mark Knight in the 8th.

He wrapped up the week with a .435 average, 10 hits in 23 at-bats, 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

Well I'm specifically commenting now about the history feature. When the settlement feature was ongoing I'm pretty sure I commented about that a lot saying it was the best part too

2300 Feature - Part 6: History of the Boston Youth Development League - Broadcast Monday 28 May

Here's the next one for your reading pleasure!

"Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series"

Written and Narrated by Philip Wallace

Welcome to tonight's feature, Part 6 of "Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series." I am your host Philip Wallace. Tonight we are looking at the Next 10, Part 2, and how they started to change the youth leagues at the time of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization’s emergence.

The other five teams of the Next 10 include current BYDL teams the Jamaica-U Point Death Rockets, the Kendal Hospital Yahoos, the South Beach Waves, the State House Orphans, and the Wattz Ups.

Cue: Music – "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkuO...ostalgaRecords
Cue: Logo – Jamaica-U Point Death Rockets

The Jamaica-U Point team started in 2297 but did not adopt the Death Rockets name until the 2298 season. Of course, their team name is an amalgam of the University Point Deathclaws, “Death,” and the Jamaica Plains Red Rockets, “Rockets.” The players on the 2298 team were proud to both come up with the name, logo, and colors without CBO designer Erin Reische’s help. Reische was still responsible for their 2300 uniforms.

While many of the current BYDL teams had either a local youth team or a traveling team, it took a while before enough youth lived in the Jamaica Plains and University Point areas. That was the main reason why the two settlements began to combine their teams. With the help of Nate Howard’s organizational skills, enough youth were sent to the area in 2297 in an established Boarding School in Jamaica Plain to start fielding a team. That field was an open area between Jamaica Plain and University Point where a new path was constructed between the two settlements for easier movement for caravans.

In 2297, the best player went to the Jamaica-U Point team from the South Charles Bank Moonies, first baseman Chase Doctorman. Doctorman, who was drafted 5th overall in the 2298 Rookie Draft, hit .494 in his second year with Jamaica-U Point, showing patience and power. While he is currently with the Vault 95 Robobrains, he will be a welcome addition to the Vault 81 team in time, or if current starter Jason Robinson would happen to go down with an injury.

Unfortunately for the Death Rockets, Doctorman turned out to be their only true star, making them one of the least successful additions to the BYDL so far. Even this season, they are at the bottom of their division, 19 games back of 1st-place Diamond City, the largest deficit in the BYDL. With that said, they do have a future star in 2B Diamond Ball, a sophomore. He has looked every part like he may be the best player in Jamaica-U Point history. But that is the future, and this is about history. So, let’s move on to our second featured team this week.

Cue: Music – "Grandma Plays the Numbers" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m136...el=HeathWilson
Cue: Logo – Kendall Hospital Yahoos

The Yahoos, sponsored by Kendall Hospital, was a team comprised mostly of players whose parents work for Kendall Hospital or around the fields for Union Hope Cathedral. They were known only as the Yahoos from their travel-team days all the way to last year. This year, they adopted the Kendall Hospital Yahoos name. The Yahoos name comes from a writer named Jonathan Swift in a book called Gulliver’s Travels where the creatures were described as “brutes in human form,” much like Super Mutants.

While they took on some talent distribution starting in 2297, the Yahoos top player so far was a returnee to the area in 2297, first baseman Jackie Shepherd. Shepherd is the son of Kendall Hospital's top surgeon, Dr. Christian Shepherd. Jackie Shepherd played across the river with the Diamond City Newsboys in 2296 before going home in 2297 and playing with the Yahoos for the next three seasons.

Shepherd began his ascent as a star for the Yahoos in 2298. That season he hit .481 with 9 homers in just 25 games. In 2299, he upped that batting average to .490 with 9 more home runs. Those two seasons made him a top commodity in the 2299 draft when he was taken 7th overall by the Concord Radstags. In his first season there, he is struggling a bit, but he looks to be a future power hitter in the league once he learns how to hit more off-speed pitches.

The first top player from the Yahoos drafted into the CBO was center fielder Cornelius Humperdink the fourth. Humperdink’s family lived in vaults for settling in the Commonwealth area in 2289 in Easy Town. At first, Humperdink played with the Beerthirty Sippers from 2295-2297, though he played sparingly in center field there. His success with the Yahoos in 2298 helped him to be taken 11th overall by the FHE Yao Guai. However, they soon traded him to Egret. He currently plays for the Somerville Place Sentry Bots.

Cue: Music – "Sixty Minute Man" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJbD...nnel=the78prof
Cue: Logo – South Beach Waves

The team that came closest of the “Next 10” to break into the playoffs was the South Beach Waves based in South Boston. Another of the traveling teams turned into a BYDL team, the Waves had a handful of steady players over the years, but the talent redistribution gave them a stud by the name of Eugene Gym.

Gym, taken 1st overall in the 2298 Rookie Draft, was responsible for 10 of the team’s 15 wins in 2298, making them fall just below the four finalists that season: North Charles Bank, Green Future, Boston Common, and the Earthlings. As a reward for his 10-1 record with a 1.34 ERA, Gym was taken by the Roxbury Rad Sox. He has yet to break into the CBO team, but he is expected to be future ace worthy as the #4 overall prospect. He was also a relief pitcher with the 2295 BYDL champions, the Pleasant Minigunners.

Another top player with the Waves from 2297-2298 after talent redistribution was third baseman David Yellowsky, taken 23rd overall in the 2298 draft by the Oberland T-51s. However, he was soon traded to Finch Farm in a big trade that netted the T-51s top center fielder Ginger Rogers. Currently Yellowsky plays for the Galleria Robotics Experts.

Cue: Music – "Undecided" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpnD...JeanFlorenzano
Cue: Logo – State House Orphans

The State House Orphans have an interesting history from our perspective. In 2290, the Massachusetts State House near Boston Common was converted into the State House Orphanage, a boarding house and school for orphaned children in the Commonwealth. The orphanage houses children up to the age of 16 who are not adopted by other families or communities. It trains children in a well-rounded education, work skills, and athletics. Most of the boys of the orphanage have taken up baseball as their athletics concentration. Thus the Orphans exist.

Not every player with the Orphans is actually an orphan, though. One of those who joined the team in 2297 was second baseman Harry Byrd. He made the short trip from Boston Common to take on his former teammates after a tiff with a couple of teammates following their series loss to the North Charles Bank Goonies in 2296.

With the Orphans in 2297, he upped his stock by hitting .469 with 8 homers. In two years with Boston Common, he had never hit a home run, except for one inside-the-park one. With a short right field for the Orphans’ ballpark, he knocked all eight over the fence. That granted him being taken as the last player in the 1st round of the 2297 rookie draft by the Oberland T-51s. Like Yellowsky mentioned before, Oberland immediately turned around that pick to try to build their CBO roster, sending Byrd to Vault 81. Byrd referred to that trade as motivation to make Oberland pay. He has indeed, as he is now considered to be one of the top second basemen in the CBO. In his second year with the Dwellers, he bats leadoff for the South Charles Association and Railroad League’s top team. His average is .322 and he has 6 home runs.

The only other player to play for the Orphans and get drafted high was right fielder Bob Bloodbug, taken 15th overall by the University Point Deathclaws in the 2298 Rookie Draft. However, Bloodbug moved around a lot with his family, so he played on four different teams in four years: the Boston Harbor Club in 2295, the Beerthirty Sippers in 2296, the Orphans in 2297, and the Hester Mechanists in 2298.

Cue: Music – "Way Back Home" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir1A...annel=SamNovak
Cue: Logo – Wattz Ups

Our final team to feature is the Wattz Ups, established as a new team in 2297 without having a previous travel team or local youth team. The team is named after the local business in Cambridge, Wattz Consumer Electronics, partially owned by Red Rocket and Red Rockets owner Kasumi Nakano.

The Ups developed their team name from an old expression that means hello, “What’s up?” Someone associated with the club read the expression in an old comic and the name stuck starting in 2297. Ups, however, has not been a good description of the team from 2297-2299, as they have won few games overall in their 25-game seasons. Because their local talent was devoid of CBO-quality talent, they needed more talent distributed to their team, but not enough could be sent there.

One good player they did receive was catcher Dopey Meanie who came from the Circle in 2297. In two years with the Wattz Ups, Meanie showed that he was a quality player, earning him the 22nd overall draft selection in the 2298 Rookie Draft by the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Some thought that he was a reach pick at that position because of limited hitting potential. However, he did have a live arm and a decent ability to block the plate, too, which means that he does have some potential of at least being a backup catcher in the CBO one day.

This season, the Ups do have a player that could potentially be their highest pick in team history, left fielder Baktu DaWell. DaWell has been considered a potential Top 10 pick in the 2300 Rookie Draft. He is currently hitting .457 with 26 home runs in 50 games, meaning he is a potential MVP candidate in the BYDL. Those 26 home runs make him tied for 5th in the entire league. He also currently leads the BYDL in WAR at 4.1 and runs at 91. He is not history yet, but he is the first superstar in Wattz’s history.

Well, men, women, boys, girls, ghouls, and synths, and bots of the Commonwealth, this will conclude Part 6 of our History of the Boston Youth Development League here on BosCom TV. Tune in for Part 7 when we explore the final four teams added this season in 2300. Until then, enjoy some of this week’s highlights around the Commonwealth. See you next week on BosCom TV!

Three BMU Franchises on the Move in 2301

The Boston Minor Union will have three teams relocating for the 2300 season. While two of those locations will be brand new, the third location is familiar.

It was announced today that the Galleria Robotics Experts and the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks of the Dark Hollow Pond League will no longer be a part of the BMU starting in 2300. Instead, the Robotics Experts, owned by the Finch Farm franchise, will play in Nahant and be known as the Nahant Shoremen. Also, the Strongbacks, owned by The Slog, will move just outside West Everett Estates, a rapidly growing settlement, and be known as the Everett Mutant Hounds.

Both teams have selected logos and have chosen uniforms. We have attached uniforms pictures to this submission. It is unknown at this time about sponsorship and stadium names, though both Finch Farm and The Slog are trying to work out those details. Currently, the Experts are sponsored by their host, the General Atomics Galleria, and Outpost Zimonja is sponsored by Drumlin Diner. We will update you as we know.

The other movement will be that a team will play in Graygarden Park, which is unoccupied by a pro team this season after Oberland completed its new stadium. The BYDL's Beantown Sprouts has used the field in some games this season. Right now, it is yet to be decided which BMU team will move to Graygarden next season. There are rumors that Abernathy, the owner of the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, and one team from the Downtown Boston League are negotiating a swap. That means that one of Atom, Goodneighbor, Jamaica Plain, Quincy, University Point, and Warwick would have its affiliate in Bunker Hill next season, while the Abernathy affiliate would be playing in Graygarden. Again, we will update you as we know the results or have further information from the CBO Headquarters.

BNN Monthly Report

Last Month in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2300

Players of the Month

Fort Hagen's Pawlak Winner, NCA Best Hitter in May: When Ben Pawlak stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

The young Fort Hagen center fielder posted a .318 batting average with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Pawlak also worked pitchers for 10 walks to post a .396 on-base percentage.

To date, Pawlak has collected 54 hits for a .321 average. He has posted 12 home runs, scored 35 runs and driven in 34 runs.

Super Month Nets Jones #1 Batter Prize in SCA: University Point Deathclaws fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Tomas Jones put up a remarkable month at the age of 23 and has been named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Jones hit .402 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This season Jones is swinging the bat at a .396 pace. He has hit 17 home runs and scored 46 times, while driving in 49. His on-base percentage is .444 and he has played in 42 games.

Westing Is May's Best NCA Hurler: Last month was a very successful month for Brad Westing of Abernathy. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the North Charles Association.

Westing shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out May with an impressive 5-1 mark and 1.72 ERA in 6 starts with 33 strikeouts in 47 innings.

So far this year Westing has compiled a 6-5 record with a 2.69 ERA.

SCA Selects Redcoats May's Best Starter: The Vault 81 Dwellers felt very secure when they sent Curt Redcoats out to the hill last month. The 37-year-old starter went after South Charles Association hitters with a vengeance and earned May's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA as he struck out 37 in 45.1 innings over 6 starts.

To date this season, Redcoats has registered 10 starts, 5-2 won-lost mark, 3.26 ERA, 69 IP, 55 strikeouts and 32 walks. Opposing teams have hit .212 against him.

Rubric Named NCA's Best Rookie: May's Rookie of the Month Award in the North Charles Association went to Mike Rubric of Abernathy.

He was outstanding in 5 starts last month as he notched 3 wins and 1 loss, a 2.82 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

This year Rubric has compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.15 ERA in 7 starts.

South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month: Deerlord Fugivmee's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Roxbury third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .316 with 9 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs. Fugivmee also scored 9 times and drove in 9 runs.

So far this season Fugivmee is hitting .296 with 1 home run.

Top Players Through May

NCA Nuka-Hitter Award Leader - CF Sean Samuels, Easy Town - 61 for 174 (.351), 13 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR, 39 R, 31 RBI, 23 BB, 14 SO, 5 SB, CS
Others Considered: CF Ben Pawlak, Fort Hagen; C Biter Trout, County Crossing; 1B Dustin Mart, Nordhagen Beach; LF Dan Erb, Concord
Analysis: There are several players hitting really well this season, but Samuels has a slight edge overall. Looking at statistical outputs and the NCA leaderboards, he is 6th in batting average, tied for 4th in home runs, 7th in OBP, 2nd in slugging, 1st in OPS, tied for 2nd in WAR, 3rd in hits, 1st in runs, tied for 4th in doubles, 1st in total bases, tied for 1st in extra-base hits, 6th in ISO, 2nd in OPS+, 1st in WPA, and 1st in WOBA.

SCA Nuka-Hitter Award Leader - RF Joe Rathmann, FHE - 64 for 146 (.438), 11 2B, 9 HR, 40 R, 35 RBI, 45 BB, 19 SO, 18 SB, 5 CS
Others Considered: 1B Oren Gep, Diamond City; 1B Barker Cocoa, University Point; RF Tomas Jones, University Point; CF Aesed Hayjen, Vault 81
Analysis: Rathmann is having a stellar year, with his .438/.567/.699 line looking to be one for the ages if it holds up. Last season, Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman finished with a .741 Slugging Pct, but otherwise Rathmann is on track to a record year after two months. He leads the CBO in batting average, OBP, WAR (3.9), and WPA (3.95). He also leads the SCA in stolen bases (18) and walks (45). In the SCA he ranks 5th in slugging, 3rd in OPS (1.266), 5th in hits, tied for 4th in runs, 6th in total bases (102), 2nd in caught stealing (5), 1st in steal attempts (23), 3rd in OPS+ (220), and 2nd in WOBA (.530).

NCA Vim! Pitcher Award Leader - SP Derek Green, Fort Hagen - 10 GS, 5-1, 2.08, 78.0 IP, 50 HA, 18 ER, 31 BB, 64 K
Others Considered: Matt Hope, Fort Hagen; Chet Arthur, Nordhagen Beach; Mike Rubric, Abernathy; Tommy Beach, Nordhagen Beach
Analysis: The Silver Shroud have the top two pitchers right now in Green and Hope, but we give the edge to Green. He leads the NCA in ERA, ERA+ (214), rWar (3.1), BABIP (.230), Opponents AVG (.182), and quality starts (9), and he is tied for 1st for shutouts (2). He is also tied for 4th in wins, 4th in WAR (2.4), tied for 2nd in complete games (3), 3rd in strikeouts (64), tied for 6th in walks allowed (31), 4th in K/9 (7.4), 3rd in WHIP (1.04), 4th in FIP (3.07), and 2nd in WINP (.833).

SCA Vim! Pitcher Award Leader - SP Sheng Kawolski, Oberland - 11 GS, 7-2, 2.79, 77.1 IP, 57 HA, 24 ER, 22 BB, 72 K
Others Considered: SP Edwin Mass, Vault 81; SP Quentin Malone, University Point; Beachboy Nut, Roxbury; Chris Teddybear, Jamaica Plain
Analysis: We would consider the Red Rockets' Teddybear, except that he is out for the year. Otherwise, he is a dominant force on an average-to-bad team. As far as Kawolski is concerned, he is doing what he does best: strike out a lot of hitters as he has done every season. In the closest race we could think of, Kawolski leads the SCA in strikeouts and Opponents AVG (.201), and he is tied for 1st in quality starts (9). He is also tied for 2nd in wins, tied for 2nd in shutouts (1), 7th in K/BB (3.3), 2nd in K/9 (8.4), 3rd in WHIP (1.02), 5th in ERA+ (158), 4th in rWAR (3.0), 3rd in BABIP (.234), and 2nd in Win% (.778).

2300 - BMU/BYDL Monthly Report - June 2

BNN Monthly Report

Last Month in the BMU and BYDL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2300

BMU Players of the Month

May's CA Batter of Month Award Announced: Even though he is a newcomer to Boston Minor Union, Jason Templeman put up some good numbers in May and earned the CA Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Outpost Zimonja's offensive leaders with a .433 average in 17 games. He also racked up 8 home runs, 18 RBIs, and 19 runs scored.

MA Honors Brownell, #1 Batter in May: Boston Common Lead Bellies fans believe they've got a talented young star in Dusty Brownell.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .333 with 12 home runs, 27 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

The end result was the first baseman being named the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month.

CA Announces Best Pitcher for May: Ethan Lynch took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 22-year-old Behemoths starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 3-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 19 batters in 33.1 innings and compiled a 2.16 ERA.

Massachusetts Association Announces May's Top Pitcher: Billy Faulkner has made fans throughout Boston Minor Union take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the Massachusetts Association threw better in May, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 4 starts Faulkner compiled a 0.32 ERA, putting up a 4-0 record, striking out 23 and tossing 28 innings.

BYDL Players of the Month

Baktu DaWell Winner in May: It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 18 Baktu DaWell has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Wattz Ups star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the North Region Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .450 average with 13 home runs, 37 RBIs and 48 runs scored.

DaWell is hitting .459 so far this season with 82 RBIs and 95 runs scored. He has 96 hits including 26 home runs, 65 walks and .604 OBP.

Ball Top Hitter in SR in May: Diamond Ball may be much younger than other hitters in the South Region, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 16-year-old Jamaica-U Point second baseman hit .474 with 11 home runs, 27 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

This year Ball is hitting .500 with 22 home runs and 59 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .590 clip and scored 54 runs.

Pitcher of the Month Named in NR: Zack Million hasn't been around long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning North Region Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In May the Green Future starter earned a 6-0 mark in 7 starts. He threw 53.2 innings, struck out 56 and compiled a solid 2.85 ERA.

This season Million has fanned 101 in 99 innings and collected a 7-2 record with a 4.55 ERA.

Widemore SR's #1 Pitcher in May: There's something about a young rookie winning the South Region Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Charred Lee Widemore, a 18-year-old starter for the Hester Mechanists.

In May, he topped off the month with a 6-1 mark and 2.65 ERA in 8 starts, tossed 54.1 innings, fanned 74 and held opposing teams to a .235 average.

In 14 starts this season, Widemore has recorded 7 wins and absorbed 1 loss. He has pitched 91 innings, allowed 81 hits, struck out 131 and has a 3.36 ERA.

BYDL All-Stars

BYDL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced: Nothing is for certain about the 2300 Boston Youth Development League All-Star Game. It might be dominated by top-notch pitching performances. Or it could turn into a home run derby. Who knows? Pitch by pitch, inning by inning, the game could feature a little of both -- six strikeouts in a row by a nasty southpaw -- or a 3-homer day for some superstar slugger -- plus great catches, thrills, chills and spills -- all the great and the unexpected things that can happen in a baseball game.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

4 June 2300

News from Around the League

29 May - Pawlak Cracks 3 HR for Silver Shroud: The old superstition that "bad news comes in threes" certainly came true for the Finch Farm Four Leafs today.

Fort Hagen center fielder Ben Pawlak tripled up on the home runs to propel the Silver Shroud to the 14-3 win at Hubris Comics Park.

"We had our chances to win the game, but we just didn't come through," Finch Farm manager Wiley Boat said. "Pawlak hit the heck out of the ball."

In addition to the homers, Pawlak collected 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 9 RBIs and scored 3 runs.

"Easy swings get you home runs," he said after the game. "I kept telling myself not to press. They have to be nice and easy swings."

Ben Pawlak hit a two-run home run off Blaine Phrasemaker in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Blaine Phrasemaker in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off John Irwin in the 5th and grounded out in the 6th.

So far this season Pawlak has 12 home runs and a .323 batting average.

30 May - League Punishes Pair for Fighting: If there wasn't a history between Mike Van Noord of Jamaica Plain and Danny Haines of Vault 81, then there is one now. The incident between the two sparked a bench-clearing scrum with those two being the center of attention. Now they will miss 3 and 5 games respectively as a result of their actions. The league office announced their suspensions today.

"We're both really competitive," Van Noord said later, "and sometimes things go a little too far because of it."

Van Noord is currently batting .231 with 7 home runs, 13 RBIs and 15 runs scored. He has 21 hits in 91 at-bats.

This season Haines has compiled a 0-0 mark with a 3.38 ERA.

1 June - Bridges Shuts Out Cats, 1-0: The Warwick Mirelurks shut out the Atom Cats 1-0 today behind the strong pitching of Brian Bridges. Bridges surrendered only 6 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 7.

Following the last out, Bridges appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Atom manager Paul Stands, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Bridges's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Cats skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Mirelurks press conference, Bridges confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Bridges said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Warwick manager Pete Brunick added.

This year Bridges has worked 67 innings with 56 strikeouts en route to a 3-7 record and 5.37 ERA.

3 June - 3 Home Runs for Erb: Anyone wearing a glove and sitting in the bleachers for today's Radstags-Lady Killers game had a good chance at snagging a home run ball.

Concord left fielder Dan Erb thrice sent eager fans scurrying to catch a souvenir, helping lead the Concord to a 11-6 win over Starlight.

"Hey, the three homers were great, but I'm just trying to help my ballclub," Erb said later. "I'm not going out there thinking I need another home run."

Erb was 4-for-5 on the day with 7 runs batted in.

Dan Erb grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Steve Rocky in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Steve Rocky in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Adan Cent in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

A look at his season totals shows Erb with 11 home runs, .355 BA, .426 OBP, 45 RBIs and 34 runs scored.

Udder Tosses Shutout Against Ninjas: Matt Udder spun his magic in a 10-0 shutout victory at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina today, leading the Oberland T-51s to victory, 10-0 over the Egret Ninjas. The Oberland pitcher put quite a spell on Egret in a strong performance, allowing 2 hits while totaling 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

"I had a lot of good things working in this one," Udder said. "I worked both sides of the plate. I was rarely behind in the count."

To date this season Udder is 6-3 with 11 starts and an ERA of 4.23 with 45 strikeouts in 72.1 innings.

Starlight Lady Killers Ship Frickitt to Salem: The Starlight Lady Killers have parted ways with 24-year-old minor league RF Dave Frickitt and a 7th round draft pick in a trade with the Salem Witch Hats for 22-year-old minor league RHP Jason Bucky and a 4th round draft pick. Lady Killers general manager Chris Gowest confirmed the deal in an announcement this morning.

Abernathy-Quincy Trade: Neo for Junkpile: The Abernathy Adamantium announced a deal with the Gunners today, sending 29-year-old C Dan Neo and 21-year-old minor league 2B Karate Ripfart to Quincy for 25-year-old C Jeremy Junkpile, 21-year-old minor league CF Bumper Robinson and a 5th round draft pick. It had been talked about for the past few weeks and everything came together late last night. All players are expected to be joining their respective clubs shortly.

This year Neo is batting .135 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. In 42 games he has scored 9 times.

Analysis

The Goodneighbor Hancocks have returned to #1 for the first time in the 2300 season, making them the team we will feature this week in our Team Focus. The Hancocks took all five games this week, topping Egret (#17) and University Point (#14) to move into the top record in the South Charles Association, only a game behind in the CBO to . . .

Fort Hagen drops to the #2 spot this week despite holding on to the top record in the CBO. The Shroud only went 3-2 on the week, splitting with Finch Farm (#22) and then beating Lexington (#15) 2 out of 3. The Silver Shroud also saw two players—Ben Pawlak and Andrew Nuka—earn Performance of the Day awards.

At #3, Vault 81 returns to its same spot from last week despite having a terrible 1-4 week. The Dwellers dropped two home games to Jamaica Plain (#12) and then lost 2 of 3 at FHE (#10). In the four losses, Vault 81 allowed 8 runs each time.

Easy Town shot up to #4 thanks in part to its weekend success while #5 Nordhagen Beach faltered. The Assaultrons were 3-2, splitting with Abernathy (#6) and then beating Finch Farm. The Party Boys dropped two at Lexington and then lost the weekend series at home to The Slog (#13).

Other teams that had good weeks include Oberland (#8) with a 4-1 week, Concord (#11) with a 3-2 week, and Atom (#16) with a 4-1 week. No team went 0-5 this week.

We already featured a few of the league leaders in the race to the Nuka-Hitter Award and the Vim! Pitcher Award in the BNN Monthly Report, so let’s take a look at some relievers and rookies staking a claim on the Fallon’s Reliever Award and the Red Rocket Rookie Award.

Others considered: RP Kyle Hooch, Abernathy; CL Aaron Still, Concord; CL William Whitehurst, County Crossing; CL Matt Breakball, Nordhagen Beach

SCA Fallon’s Reliever Award Leader: CL Tiny Greene, Goodneighbor – 1-0, 1.15 ERA, 9 SV, 1.1 WAR, 15.2 IP, 16 HA, 2 ER, 5 BB, 23 K
Others considered: CL Andy Helium, Egret; CL Aaron Somer, Roxbury; RP Mike Safeman, Diamond City; CL Wick Prater, Quincy

NCA Red Rocket Rookie Award Leader: RF Gene Leftswipe, Concord - 52 for 150 (.347), 8 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 26 R, 32 RBI, 24 BB, 22 SO, 10 SB, 2.1 WAR

Others considered: RF Bat Savelli, Egret; RP Walt Barbed, Roxbury; LF Bobby Hughey, Goodneighbor; CF Any Why, FHE

Team Focus: Goodneighbor Hancocks

Lookout, CBO. The three-time Minutemen League champions are back in the lead. Looking like they may have a lot of competition in the Quincy Gunners and University Point Deathclaws in 2300, the Hancocks have found their pattern of success yet again. While the Gunners seem to be the best-balanced team, Goodneighbor has one thing going for it: star power.

The Hancocks are 2nd in the SCA in scoring but 1st in batting average, OBP, OPS, and WOBA. CF Good Don Duck (.390/5/34) has been hitting the cover off the ball in his new lineup role as the cleanup hitter. 1B Bryan Assman (.362/9/24) is not having the dominant season that he is used to, but he is playing great enough to help his team to victories. SS Burtie Cuttooth (.308/10/38), 2B Jumper Hayes (.305/8/35), and 3B Jason Juras (.311/12/29) are all hitting over .300. C Justin Browneye (.282/13/36) could be in contention for a BosCom Positional Hitter Award. The Hancocks are missing LF Zachary Utsinger (.332/17/75) who could be back in time for the playoffs if he recovers well from a torn meniscus.

Goodneighbor’s pitching is also starting to find its groove with 205 runs allowed (3rd in SCA). They are 3rd in Starters ERA (4.04) and 4th in Bullpen ERA (4.07) with the top FIP (4.19) and Pitching WAR (6.1). Where they have to get better is in defense where they are 12th in Errors (45). SP Quincy Eloquent (7-4, 3.46) and SP Josh Dude (5-2, 3.76) are holding runs down. The other two starters—Matt Pageturner (4-2, 4.52) and Oscar Chekhemani (3-1, 4.94)—are also holding their own. SP John Oldsink (4-4, 4.40) should replace Chekhemani in a week. Closer Tiny Greene, mentioned as the leader for the Fallon’s Reliever Award, is holding down the bullpen.

This team is not going away just yet. They are a veteran group with enough amazing youth like Assman, Hayes, Duck, Oldsink, and Utsinger to stay fresh and make a deep playoff run. They might even find themselves back where they were two years ago on a collision course with a returning Sole Survivor Series opponent like the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud or the Easy Town Assaultrons, which Goodneighbor swept two years ago.

When you say the Party Boys "faltered" I think you're just being kind! You described the week that the Vault 81 had as "terrible" and the Boys have to be in the same category!! Interesting races, though.

Thare be thesaurus-speak in da seas!

And look at the defending champs! They are 2-8 in their last 10 and cold, cold, cold.

Nordhagen Beach had a chance to put The Slog in their permanent place on the back half of the BL. Now, it is a 4-team race for the league lead. NB should have some advantages, but who knows right now with the way Easy Town and Salem are playing.
