How to utilize modifiers
I am creating a Cape Cod Baseball League modeled after the real CCBL. Unfortunately I have absolutely no clue how to set the modifiers/sliders. Does anyone have any advice for how to create a realistic statistical universe?
The regular season is 36 games. For comparison, these are the leaders from this season: http://pointstreak.com/baseball/divi...seasonid=32825 Any advice would be greatly appreciated! |

It *should* be as simple as creating the league as a College league (league level) and setting the schedule as appropriate (36 games). OOTP will adjust the player creation modifiers for the league level (between 55 - 65% of major league) and the league total modifiers for the schedule (on opening day).
The best option is to run a test season or two to see how the results come out. Save your settings as a template, create the league and sim a season or two, then repeat one or two more times. If the results aren't to your liking, you can begin to manually adjust the league modifiers to tweak up or down the offending stats. |

So that brings up a good point. I get confused over the "save game" "quick start" option and Templates.
If Im in the middle of the season and I want to go back to the start, which option is better. It appears that the quick start acts as a "save as" function? while the "save game" just saves the game where you left off. There is no "save as" option. So if I want to go back to prior to starting the season with all my updated settings which option do I use. But when I tried to use a template, the game just brought me back to the same date I was in. Although Now that I think about it I didnt save the template before I started games. So I guess what I need to do is configure the game to the settings I think is right. Save it as a template and than start the season and if I dont like the way the season played out, import the template which will bring me back to the beginning? |

I use an alternate save system than the game's backup. Simply, at least once per season (usually on 1/1) and before every major change to the league, I simply copy my league file and rename it with the date of the save. If I then need to go back to a particular point in the league, I can use that copy. This allows me to have backups at various points in time, versus the in-game "backup since last save" option. The reason I don't just use that is that I've found I need to tweak some setting but can't return early enough in the game (say like the beginning of the season) because my backup is newer. Templates are essentially just a way to save your league setups so if you want to create a new league with identical setups, they are already set for you. Quick starts are a way to set up a league--including teams and players--such that no league setup is required. It's intended for sharing with others. I suppose you could use quick starts to save games, but again, as I've never used them, others will have to speak on it. As to you wanting to return to the beginning of the season, you have a few options depending on if (and how) you saved the game. If your last backup was the beginning of the game, just restore it (but you'll have to update any settings you've changed since). If you have no other save, then there is no way to return -- you'll have to start over. It sounds like the latter scenario is where you are at. If you've played part of a season, and now want to change settings that impact games already played, you'll have to begin again. I certainly recommend creating a league and then saving the settings as a template (pre-league creation) or creating the league and saving it as a quick start (post league creation). This way you'll always be able to go back without having to manually reconfigure everything again. Last edited by cbbl; 08-25-2021 at 06:59 PM. |
