I was simming some games in my Ottawa Sens league and I saw news of a trade between the Winnipeg Jets and L.A. Kings. The Jets sent Dominic Toninato to the Kings for the rights to Mike Amadio.

Mike Amadio is currently playing on my Belleville Senators and his rights are with my team. They have been all season. How can this happen?

I would have taken screenshots but the Steam overlay seems to not like working at all with this game. It works in OOTP 22 just fine.

F12 will take a screenshot - can you take one of the Contract screen on his player profile, and one of the Transactions view in his history?

Ah, looks like there's a data error with Amadio in the Current starting database - he's contracted to Ottawa, but his rights weren't updated and they're still with LA (which is odd, because our internal editor normally does that automatically.) So in the game, Ottawa controls him for the first season, but he's still owned by LA and they can trade his rights. If you have commissioner mode on (or can activate it), I would just edit him back to you, since that's not a fair way for you to lose him.
