Very nice. I had almost no luck identifying most of the players in that photo so this proves why.

1890 Terre Haute team photo

Replying to myself, I was looking at G. O'Brien listed in the picture and noting he was referred to as George "Darby" O'Brien in one article about the club. Upon closer inspection (below), seems as if he was neither George Darby or Darby O'Brien. More likely he was George J. O'Brien (obrien005geo), who played with Rockford and Peoria in 1888, and then Wheeling in 1890.
(Heading for this should be 1889, not 1890.)

1889 Terre Haute team photo

As for J. Cantillion, he is identified as Jimmy Cantillon from Janesville, WI in the article, while Joe Cantillon (manager for Washington in 1907, 1908 and 1909) is also identified as from Janesville, WI. So maybe a brother? Joe played for Terre Haute in 1890. There was also a William D. Cantillon from Janesville who played in 1877 (for Janesville) and 1879 (per Baseball Reference), and a T. Cantillon with Janesville in 1877. Looks like the Cantillon family was a bunch of ball playing brothers.

I suspect he also played for their semi-pro team that same year and is pictured in the Terre Haute Blues team photo. Anyone else see facial similarities between the player on the left, circa 1884, and Halbriter's obituary photo, circa 1936?
I'm going to jump in here (seven months later) and say I think the player in the Terre Haute photo is actually Jim Donnelly (donnel002jim). The photo of Donnelly from his Baseball-Reference page seems a much better match for the player in the photo. But that is just my opinion.

I would agree that Halbriter is likely in the photo.

Norm Wallen 1945

Something bothered me about the Wallen image used in the Facepack and on his baseball-reference.com page. That image shows a classic posed pitching follow-through shot with the subject wearing an "M" hat. But Wallen wasn't a pitcher, and didn't have a team listed on his minor league page that would likely wear such a hat. In looking further, a contemporary pitcher named Ray Wallen played for both the Milwaukee Brewers and Montgomery Bombers. I believe that is the person shown in the current Facepack image.

The attached image shows Norm Wallen in 1949. Ironically enough, the photo accompanied a story about Norm's team (which also featured Pro Football Hall of Famer Elroy Hirsch) facing a team managed by Ray Wallen. I did not see any mention in that article or elsewhere that there was any relation between the Wallens, and with the Major Leaguer using an assumed name during his career (his birth name was Walentowski), I doubt they were related.

Topps Vault

I was told early in the summer that the expectation they would resume selling the detritus of 70 years “after Labor Day.”

It is now after Labor Day. Sure enough, a Topps Vault “test” listing appears on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?item..._ipg=200&rt=nc

Chuck Estrada Angels(!) 1966

Another image that hockeymonkey10 made available recently is a dated 1966 portrait of veteran pitcher Chuck Estrada. Still an active pitcher in 1966, he was part of the newly renamed California Angels on Opening Day but was returned to the Baltimore Orioles on May 15th without ever having ever pitched. In turn, the Orioles flipped him to the Cubs one day later.
My information is too sketchy for my taste, but I get that teams in 1966 and 1967, due in part to the demise of the Bonus Baby program, were allowed to begin the season with 28-man rosters, cutting back to 25 no later than May 15.
I'm trying to pin down players who were these "extras," but who would depart without ever seeing action. Estrada makes three I know of -- Chuck Schilling (Twins) in '66 and Chris Cannizzaro (Tigers) in '67 were the first. Anybody have a list of those May 15th transactions?

Jeff Twitty 1980

Here's another Remini-enhanced player, this one from his 1981 Fleer card. I haven't seen Twitty show up in the Topps Vault as of yet so this is a good placeholder.

In this thread specifically, part of the player identification is their rookie year. For Gaylord Perry, he is identified as "Gaylord Perry 1962". The "uni" (sometimes alternately designated as UIN, or uniforms I need) tag is included because that image was offered to add Perry's Rangers image to the Pegasus pitcher's pack. It is technically correct in this thread's jargon, but can be confusing.
