The "evidence" of the Astros cheating on Yordan Ventura's game-breaking hit in Wednesday's Game 5 was highly dubious, to say the least."

Braves beat one of their old NL West rivals, and will hopefully beat another soon.

Oh, I assure you that it's only for a maximum of seven games. Then I return to my newly-adopted status of generic, universal Baseball fan. I do find reasons to root for a team here and there. Right now, my incentive to root for the ... Barves, you call them? ... is quite strong.

Astr*s vs. Braves. Disgraced cheaters (some of them) against Native American detractors. I'm not Native American, so that objection is trumped by disrespect for the game. Plus I like Freddie. Go Braves!

Someone root for the Astros for me tonight. I'm quite a bit ill and can't stay up all night.
![]() (Staying up all DAY is hard enough...)I'll try and catch up by Game 3, maybe...

Thank you, Sir, thank you...! I'll watch Game 1 from the archives tomorrow with a good supply of nose wipes, that can also come in handy if Atlanta gets off to a good start.

I am no longer amazed at the statistical history that today's sports databases can mine and produce; I am sure, for example, that they could tell you how many times baseball players have spit while on the field throughout history (it must be in the quadrillions by now).
But I am amazed by some of the things still being unearthed after all this time. I just read that, in all the games that have been played in 117 World Series, Jorge Soler's blast was the first time in Series history that the first batter of the game homered. Previously, four others had hit leadoff homers in the bottom half of the first inning: The Dodgers’ Chris Taylor (2017), Kansas City’s Alcides Escobar (2015), Boston’s Dustin Pedroia (2007) and Baltimore’s Don Buford (1969). But none in the top half of the first inning. Fancy that.

And this quote made me smile; somebody apparently asked Framber Valdez if his poor performance was due to nerves:

I have sort of grown numb to ubiquitous sports gambling ads run throughout baseball broadcasts but in-game pop-ups about prop bet odds along with the commentators highlighting them still shocks my old school senses.

As I have said elsewhere, as a group, people are too darned dumb to learn from history. Thus, they keep repeating it.

Well, that didn't go so well! And it didn't go well right from the start...!
At least I had those tissues...

Best of 5 now. I think you can throw out any HFA. Both teams have shown they can win on the road and if Atlanta fans think they can somehow rattle the Astros they have another thing coming.
