Small request
One small thing I'd love to see is a confirmation when signing free agents. I always like to do a plan a, b and c when it comes to july 1. Like say I need a no. 1, and a 3rd line rw. I will offer a contract to 3 top centers in hopes that one of them will pick me. I'll also offer up contracts to 3 depth wingers as well in hopes one picks me.
I was playing and it turned out that 5 of my 6 offers picked me. Now I'm way too stacked at center and depth wingers, and I have no cap space left. Lol. Would love it if once a player or players agree, you the gm has the option to either accept it, or veto it. Last edited by toddr037; 01-05-2022 at 09:01 PM. |

Not likely to be added - that's basically negotiating in bad faith with the players; part of the challenge is having to decide who to make your offers to, knowing that you're stuck with them if they accept.

Thanks for the reply, but I respectfully disagree. A real life gm, it's his job to fill the holes in his roster, no matter what. So many times I see gms say on July 1st, or July 2nd or 3rd. "Yes we need a starting goalie, and I do have a few offers on the table. Should hear back at any time"
Back a couple years ago, edmonton was all in on markstrom. He chose calgary. Less than an hour later, Smith resigned in edmonton. I can almost gaurnentee that both offers to Smith and markstrom were active at the same time. Im also sure that the Smith contract was dependent on markstroms decision. What if markstrom did sign in edmonton and Smith also signed? The Oilers would have markstrom, Smith and koskinen on their roster. Also had markstrom signed in edmonton, 1 of 2 things would have happened. Either holland pulls out of negotiations with Smith, or Smith pulls out of negotiations with edmonton, and signs elsewhere. Basically it's not smart gming to put all your eggs in one basket. If you offer 1 contract, by the time he makes his decision and picks another team, there is nobody left on the market to fill the hole you have. Also the option to confirm, cancel, or delay is also available for trade offers once it get accepted. This allows for multiple trade offers at a time if that's what you want to do, to make sure your 100% confident your making the right move. Why can't this this kind of confirmation be available for signing free agents? Last edited by toddr037; 01-12-2022 at 10:50 AM. |

I think you're mistaken on the Edmonton thing. Yes, it happened quickly, but it's more than likely they told him they were going to pursue other avenues but if they didn't pan out, he could come back. It's not like Smith had a great year with them that year either. (and this scenario happens, a lot).
What you suggest wouldn't work for the simple fact that you could quite literally offer everyone a contract, then turn everyone down. That doesn't make sense either. Even at that, every player would refuse to negotiate with you in the future, and they would tell every teammate and friend the same. Moreover, what you propose is simply bad-faith negotiations that would get you into all sorts of legal issues with the player, team, league and everything else. There would be all sorts of multiple lawsuits about that.

Again thanks for the reply. I know I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but since there is no actual negotiations in the game, having a "cancle" option could be used the same way as a "pull out of negotiations" button. Either that or somehow make players smarter when signing a contract. Like have an email saying "Bob Jones rejected his offer as he noticed the top line center position was filled and he doesn't want to play 2nd or 3rd line"
But as I said I know there is probably no changing your mind on this. Still is a great game so thanks for that. |
