Yeah, you've expanded the list quite a bit, though not all of the insects are equally gross.

Ironically County Crossing is one of my favorite settlements in game, despite it's bug problem.

He is a damn good catcher in the league. He may not win any awards this season since FHE's Tyler Shoemaker seems to have had a better overall season. However, in time, I see him winning more awards.

I sometimes use it as a caravan base, so I send caravans off from CC in multiple directions. There are not as many dangers around that area.

Haines said his team "played with focus."

2301 - CBO Playoffs - NCA: Starlight vs Fort Hagen

#4 Starlight Lady Killers (59-51) vs #5 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (58-51)

Game 1: Fort Hagen 7, Starlight 2

Road Win Lifts Fort Hagen to 1-0 Lead in PiS

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud powered past the hometown Starlight Lady Killers, 7-2, in the opener of the Play-in Series at Valentine Detective Agency Field today. Fort Hagen starting pitcher Derek Green threw 8.1 innings of 6-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Silver Shroud now lead the series 1-0.

Green was in the zone all game. He frustrated Starlight hitters while giving the Silver Shroud 8.1 innings of quality work. Green threw 125 pitches, allowing 6 hits and getting 16 punchouts.

"I have a really good team behind me," Green said. "I trust them 100 percent."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Valentine Detective Agency Field in Lexington.

Game 2: Starlight 3, Fort Hagen 2

Lady Killers Clip Silver Shroud 3-2 in PiS Contest

The Starlight Lady Killers topped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud by the score of 3-2 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Play-in Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Starlight starter Justin Sphinx, who threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win.

Hubris McBride dealt the Silver Shroud a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and Starlight leading 1-0, McBride hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run double.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen said following the tough loss.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Hubris Comics Park in Boston.

Game 3: Fort Hagen 8, Starlight 2

Silver Shroud Prevail, as Play-in Series Goes to the Wire

The joy and relief on the faces of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud players was obvious as they celebrated their Play-in Series win over the Starlight Lady Killers.

"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Fort Hagen center fielder Ben Pawlak, shortly after the 8-2 win that clinched the series 2-1. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."

The team is now off to the Association Semifinal.

Pawlak won series MVP honors on the strength of his .333 batting average during the series. He also had a .429 on-base percentage and 2 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 2 runs.

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud will play against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys in the next round. Nordhagen Beach had a bye in the Play-in Series. The Association Semifinal schedule will be announced after the Play-in Series finishes.

In-universe the Shroud and Party Boys probably have quite the rivalry by this point, always facing each other in the playoffs.

I would say so, like New England and Indianapolis were during the Brady-Manning eras!

I will need to include this information in the playoffs preview. This will mark the fourth straight year that the two teams face off in the playoffs.

2298 - NCA Association Semifinals - #4 Fort Hagen 3, #1 Nordhagen Beach 0
2299 - NCA Association Finals - #2 Fort Hagen 4, #1 Nordhagen Beach 3
2300 - NCA Associaton Finals - #2 Fort Hagen 4, #1 Nordhagen Beach 1

Hmmmm.... I would bet that the Silver Shroud have to have the best chance to knock out the Boys this season as they have done the previous three.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - SCA: Diamond City vs Atom

Season Series: Diamond City 5, Atom 3

May 14-15 @Atom: DC 11-3, Atom 13-1

Game 1 Matchup

Analysis

The two-time defending champions get to defend their crown in 2301 against a team that has only one playoff appearance, and that was in 2296 as the overall 8th seed when the playoffs were not divided by association. Diamond City made its first playoff appearance in 2298 when the CBO did create two true associations for the playoffs. That team lost its first series as the SCA's 4th seed but has now won six straight postseason series to become the CBO's first two-time champions.

While the Swatters spent the past two seasons looking to be a sure-bet contender for the SCA title, this season they are back in the pack, having edged out Vault 81 for the Railroad League title through a tie-breaker game. Diamond City is the top-scoring team in the CBO with their 615 runs scored the only over 600 and 35 more than the second-best in the CBO, the Dwellers. We would say that the offense is not the strong point, but 2301 proved otherwise. The most surprising of their success stories has been RF Waze Waiting (.331/32/99) who seemingly came out of nowhere to win the team triple crown after replacing Wayne Lacy (.393/4/13) in the starting lineup after his production dropped off in 2300. Before this season, the former 15th-round pick in the Inaugural draft had been a backup outfielder with just 82 career starts. The actual team leader is 1B Oren Gep (.311/30/91) with another solid season. Other key contributors in 2301 include 2B Jim Synthseeker (.294/15/69), LF Cody Grime (.304/10/67), and CF Witcher Craft (.286/1/43, 33 SB). SS Wally Warwick (.249/14/60) had a down year from his career .315 average. Watch out if he figures it out this postseason where he already owns two series MVP awards.

Pitching has been the big disappointment in 2301 with the 7th-most runs allowed (525) in the SCA along with the 10th-best Starters ERA (4.85). To overcome that poor output, the Swatters traded for all-time great Sheng Kawolski (11-9, 3.18), though he struggled some with DC, going 4-4, 3.44 in 10 starts. Previous team ace, X10-44 Mannson (8-12, 4.93), and Tyler Powers (8-9, 5.22) had hugely disappointing seasons. City Moore (17-6, 4.46) had lots of wins based on the team's offense rather than his pitching. Even CL Josh Samm (7-4, 32 SV, 2.52) was not always on, but did finish fourth on the team in wins.

After making the playoffs in 2296, the Cats finished 5th, 6th, 6th, and 6th in the subsequent years in the Minutemen League standings. That they made the playoffs seems to be a miracle, though PAM did not seem to think so, accurately picking the Cats to be the 3rd seed in the SCA. (In fact, the only teams in the playoffs that PAM did not pick to be in are the Dwellers, Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, and the Concord Radstags in the NCA--the teams they replaced were Egret, Goodneighbor, and Salem). Why PAM predicted the Cats to finish that high and why they were, we will cover in the pitching analysis below.

Atom was a well-balanced team, finishing 4th in runs scored (544) and 2nd in runs allowed (460). 1B Will Ashfire, who was one of the few original stars to stick around, was the all-around team leader with a .275/30/78 season and sits one behind the Rockets' Cody Flatt as the all-time home runs leader. CF Earthbound Bussey (.307/12/42) proved to be one of the best leadoff hitters in the CBO. SS Jake Doucette (.305/18/72) and LF Jeremy Schoolboy (.297/23/70) were both highly productive. The pitching has proven to be the gem of the team with the emergence of two young stars and the turnaround of one veteran. In just his second season as a starter SP Scruffy Taguchi (13-7, 3.23) has become a solid ace. While he usually has to face the opponents' aces, he has held his own all season. Pete Pembroke (16-4, 3.07) finally broke through with the Cats after being a top starter in Lexington for years. Deedee Martinson (12-9, 3.81) had a solid first season as a full-time starter. From the bullpen, CL Danny Scorcher (29 SV, 0.90) was on fire after moving to the Cats from Warwick via Echo Lake (VimL) in a three-team midseason trade. He is likely to be the SCA's 2301 recipient of the Fallon's Reliever Award.

Prediction

While Atom could be the better all-around team, the addition of Sheng Kawolski will make all the difference in this 5-game series. We're predicting the defending champions to win their seventh-straight playoff series, 3 games to 1.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - SCA: University Point vs Vault 81

#1 University Point Deathclaws (67-41) vs #4 Vault 81 Dwellers (63-46)

Season Series: Vault 81 5, University Point 3

May 7-8 @UP: V81 9-4, UP 9-6

Game 1 Matchup

Analysis

A season ago, these two teams had different circumstances entering the playoffs, with the Deathclaws entering as the 5th seed while Vault 81 was the top seed. This season, University Point is looking to move to the next level in competing for the Sole Survivor Series. But first, they have to win their first-ever playoff series in just their second try. The Dwellers are not much more advanced, minus that they are only playing in their fourth-ever playoff series. Regardless of circumstances, these are two talented teams. This analysis will look in depth at University Point since we covered the Dwellers in detail in the Play-in Series.

The Claws finished 3rd in the SCA in runs scored (559) and 1st in runs allowed (411). Their good all-around offense in both average and power is led by two legitimate stars in RF Tomas Jones (.355/27/93) and 1B Barker Cocoa (.336/27/79). They are flanked by a lineup that is 7-deep in good hitters, including long-time star LF Kory Richardson (.293/22/74), CF Jukebox Luttrell (.284/17/54), and 2B Jason Harris (.291/17/65). Pitching is even better, especially with the best Starters ERA (3.41) in the SCA. SP Wilson Beachball (20-6, 3.21) may not yet be the ace, but he has earned himself a no-doubt Red Rocket Rookie Award, finishing just a win shy of tying Matt Pageturner's CBO record for wins in a season. The Deathclaws are more likely to rely on veterans in the playoffs, including current ace Phlip Wallace (13-8, 3.02) and Bobby Van Marter (13-9, 3.27) whom they acquired from Warwick. University Point also has two closers in Marc Pondsip (22 SV, 3.75) and Matt Suds (22 SV, 3.77), whom they acquired from The Slog. RP Chase Southie (2-1, 0.00) gave up no earned runs in 23.1 innings. For the record, the one run he allowed on the season was due to a fielder's error.

Prediction

Vault 81 is good, but they missed their window last season. With the advantage in pitching, we expect the Claws to edge the Dwellers, 3 games to 2, and move on to the SCA Championship Series.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - NCA: Concord vs County Crossing

#2 Concord Radstags (59-49) vs #3 County Crossing Bloodbugs (59-50)

Season Series: Concord 5, County Crossing 3
April 4-5 @Con: Con 5-4, Con 9-3
May 7-8 @CC: Con 4-1, Con 7-4
June 18-19 @Con:CC 6-3, CC 4-0
July 16-17 @CC: Con 8-2, CC 6-5

Concord Home Page

County Crossing Home Page

Game 1 Matchup

Analysis

Fun fact: Neither team has ever won a playoff series. Of course, these two teams have combined to play a total of two playoff games in their histories, with the Radstags getting swept by The Slog in the Play-in Series in 2300. This season, Concord moves up to the #2 spot, while County Crossing makes its playoffs premier in the #3 spot. The winner gets to face a veteran playoffs team in the NCA Championship Series between either Nordhagen Beach or Fort Hagen.

The Radstags were not the best offensive team, finishing 6th in the NCA in runs scored (506), but helped their cause by being 3rd in runs allowed (474). One offensive player who did do his job throughout the season was potential MVP, LF Dan Erb (.339/26/90). While he was the only full-time player to hit over .300 on the team, Concord did show a lot of pop in the bats, finishing 2nd in home runs (117). 1B Kyle Boohoo (.245/21/71) and 2B Josh McIntyre (.227/20/62) helped that cause, and the Stags got some other support on offense from CF Pockets Aintfull (.280/2/38/33 SB) and RF Gene Leftswipe (.247/8/44/44 SB). Pitching was dominated by the bullpen with the top ERA (2.36) in the NCA. CL Freedom Williams (29 SV, 1.66) is the leader of that group with one-time closer Aaron Still (3-1, 0.94) offering setup support. The starters were not as good, finishing 8th in ERA (4.64). SP Emperry Alizm (12-10, 3.66) had the most success. Ace Chris Radsco (11-14, 4.34) and 3rd SP Phil Cecil (10-6, 4.75) struggled a bit more from the mound.

County Crossing will challenge the Radstags in the opposite direction. The Bloodbugs were tops in the NCA in offensive production, including runs scored (566), AVG (.287), OBP (.361), OPS (.789), and wOBA (.344). They are not a powerful or fast team, though, so it is important for them to get a stream of hits. Leading the offensive charge was RF Babs Rooth (.312/23/77). The former Concord 1st-round pick is looking to be a star in the league and make the Stags pay for trading for all of the good bullpen pitchers last season. C Biter Trout (.366/4/57) is an established star who led the NCA in batting average. 1B Ajani Peacock (.334/8/51) and 3B Taygun Topaloglu (.318/13/72) also rack up a lot of hits. Pitching is another story, especially after trading away their four best relievers last season for Rooth. The Bugs are 9th in runs allowed (511) with the 4th-best Starters ERA (4.38) and 11th Bullpen ERA (4.09). The top two pitchers for County Crossing, Ace Gavin Eviritts (14-8, 3.31) and SP Whip Lashley (15-7, 4.16) can get the job done each time out. Once they get to the bullpen, though, the Bugs' best best is CL William Whitehurst (30 SV, 2.81). Usual 4th starter, Aimer Doghair (6-6, 4.37) is going to have to be caps in the playoffs.

Prediction

This is the series we struggled the most with. While Concord holds the season series, the Bloodbugs have been the hotter late-season team. We're going to hold onto the hotness of the Bugs and pick them to take the series over the Radstags, 3 games to 2.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - NCA: Nordhagen Beach vs Fort Hagen

#1 Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (79-29) vs #5 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (58-51)

Season Series: Nordhagen Beach 4, Fort Hagen 4

August 13-14 @FtH: FtH 6-5, FtH 4-3

Game 1 Matchup

Analysis

For the fourth-straight season, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys are going to meet in the postseason. In all four of those matchups, the Boys entered the series as the #1 seed in the North Charles Association and the favorites. In the first three series (2298-2300), the Shroud prevailed, propelling themselves to the Sole Survivor Series the last two seasons.

This season looks different because Nordhagen Beach was not just the best, but the best ever in the regular season, surpassing the 2298 Goodneighbor Hancocks thanks to a 12-game winning streak to finish the 2301 season. Now the Boys get to test that winning streak against the team that has had their number just about every year. Even in the 2301 regular season, Nordhagen Beach did not have a losing record against anyone. However, there were two teams that they went .500 against: the Shroud and County Crossing (the #3 seed in the playoffs).

The Party Boys were expected to be the top pitching team in baseball thanks to the off-season megatrade for SP Beachboy Nut (17-3, 2.16), the defending SCA Vim! Pitcher Award winner with Roxbury. For the record, he is almost assuredly going to win that award in the NCA this season. Nordhagen Beach was indeed good with its pitching, finishing with a CBO-low 331 runs allowed (Salem was second with 386), just over 3 runs per game. They were 1st in Starters ERA (2.90) and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (2.41). In addition to Nut, the Boys already had three great pitchers in Tommy Beach (18-4, 2.81), Chet Arthur (12-4, 2.92), and Julian Shed (8-6, 3.55). Shed went down with a season-ending injury, or he may have also won 10+ games. From the bullpen, CL Tom Mannequin (35 SV, 1.26) was masterful. He was supported by other good bullpen pitchers in Matt Breakball (3-2, 2.29) and Marc Woodsman (3-2, 1.56). SP Matt Ranger (8-2, 3.67) will also come off the bench in the playoffs.

While the offense is not as dominant as the pitching, Nordhagen Beach still finished tied for 2nd in runs scored (561) and in the top half of all offensive categories. They had good average throughout the lineup with three players hitting over .300, including C Mike Swift (.351/0/44) and 1B Ryan Combs (.318/7/44). They also have three power hitters in the middle of the lineup to generate runs fast: CF Maxx Murtagh (.231/14/62), RF Jonathan Angelou (.262/20/66), and LF Michael Fogcrawler (.258/27/98). One big loss the Party Boys have is 3B Dirty Dog Sapienza (.307/14/42). His replacement, though, is a good one in Jon Hitman (.299/2/21).

Prediction

While the 2301 version looks to be the same machine that the 2298 Goodneighbor team was, the Party Boys have struggled with Fort Hagen every postseason. If the Boys get past the Shroud this season, we expect them to win it all. With the rivalry and everything else, though, we have to see it to believe it. Fort Hagen 3, Nordhagen Beach 2.

Grognaks Top Nerd Ragers 6-3 to Begin AC

The Malden Grognaks faced a tough opponent in College Square Nerd Ragers center fielder Cram Garge, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Association Championship, which they now lead 1-0. The Grognaks won 6-3 at Med-Tek Research Ballpark, despite the efforts of Garge, who went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

Hawk Callaway hit a 2-run triple off Smelly Schmelzer in the bottom of the third, which put the Grognaks in front, 2-1. Callaway had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 4.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Callaway.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Med-Tek Research Ballpark in Malden.

Malden Sweeps into the Boston Minor Series

Cram Garge was a standout performer in the Association Championship, but unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the rest of the College Square Nerd Ragers.

The Malden Grognaks beat Garge's Nerd Ragers 2-0 at Med-Tek Research Ballpark tonight, to capture the series 2-0.

Despite the series loss, Garge was named MVP.

"It's cold comfort," he said solemnly when asked about the award. "I'd certainly rather be in Malden's position than mine."

The Malden Grognaks don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Cabot House Rayguns - Natick Banks Big Leaguers series. That series is tied at 1 game each. The Boston Minor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship finishes.

Home Field Advantage: Fusion, Natick Banks Open Association Championship with Win

The Natick Banks Big Leaguers powered past the visiting Cabot House Rayguns, 7-2, in the opener of the Association Championship at Poseidon Park today. Natick Banks starting pitcher Tim Fusion threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs, to lead the charge. The Big Leaguers now lead the series 1-0.

Michaelangelo Sandifer chipped in for Natick Banks with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.

"Tim is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Natick Banks manager Scott Vetson.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Saturday, September 7th , 2301.

Cabot House Win to Pull Even With Natick Banks

With second baseman Chris Shleedoodle leading the charge, the Cabot House Rayguns got a road win over the Natick Banks Big Leaguers, 9-3, in Game 2 of the Association Championship today. Shleedoodle went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 at Poseidon Park to help Cabot House force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-3 series.

Steve Hon, the 33-year old first baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Hon contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Cabot House up, 6-2.

Hon said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Cabot House Square.

Natick Banks Takes Association Championship in Deciding Game

The Natick Banks Big Leaguers and Cabot House Rayguns held nothing back in an entertaining Association Championship that went the distance.

In the end, it will be Natick Banks advancing to the Boston Minor Series, after a 3-0 triumph in the final game at Cabot House Square, to wrap up the series 2-1.

The Big Leaguers players celebrated jubilantly in their clubhouse after the game, while the scene was one of dismay on the opposing side for the Rayguns.

Michaelangelo Sandifer was named series MVP for Natick Banks. For the series, Sandifer hit .500 with a .538 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 2 runs.

The Natick Banks Big Leaguers will play against the Malden Grognaks in the next round. Malden won their series against the College Square Nerd Ragers 2 games to 0. The Boston Minor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship finishes.

Storm Handcuffs Bloatflies, Zetans Seize 1-0 Advantage in LC

One game in and the League Championship is already looking exhausting.

The Sanctuary Hills Zetans and the Lynn Woods Bloatflies needed 18 innings to settle Game 1, with the Zetans finally taking the 2-1 victory at Methuen Grounds. Excelling in the win was Sanctuary Hills starting pitcher New Storm, who threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs. The Zetans and Bloatflies are playing a best-of-3 series.

Sanctuary Hills used the clutch hitting of Engle Abyss to capture the win. The catcher drilled a solo home run in the top of the 18th inning to put the Zetans ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"New made his pitches," said Sanctuary Hills manager Wino Wilhelm.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sunday, September 8th , 2301.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Cardinal said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Saturday, September 7th , 2301.

Poseidon Energy Sweeps into the Rookie Series

The Poseidon Energy Mongrels are on to the Rookie Series after a convincing series win over the Big John Salvagers.

Poseidon Energy wrapped up the series sweep with a 5-3 win in the last game, to take the series 2-0.

"We expected to win and we executed the way we needed to," said Orcin Cardinal, who was named series MVP.

For the series, Cardinal hit .444 with a .444 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 3 runs.

Vault 81 and Swatters not off to a great start, though I guess one of those teams has been better than the other lately.

Looking at the last four in the SCA, University Point was the coldest team in August except for a good final week to clinch the Minutemen League title. Otherwise, Atom, Diamond City, and Vault 81 were 14-8 in the month. These four teams are all good, so the series can sway any direction. The ML certainly has a big advantage over the RL right now with only one win each needed.

Well by "lately" I suppose I kinda meant the past few seasons

Also realized I maybe have been projecting some of my thoughts on Vault City onto Vault 81... which now that I think about it, the creators might have intended people to do only so they could later subvert them. Vault City is full of snooty stuck up people, and Vault 81 seems that way at first, but once you get to know them they're actually probably one of the nicest if not *the* nicest settlement in the wasteland.
