The AI Pick button should be removed completely. If you have set up options so that your 'Assistant' (i.e. AI) is doing the draft the pick should be automatic anyway (so just leave it as Next Pick), otherwise it should force you to manually pick someone.

Does the Hitting attribute act independent of or in tandem with either / both other attributes (such as Strength) or physical measurements.physical attributes? For example, Kailer Yamamoto has a Strength rating of 10 and is listed at only 5-8 and 152 lbs, yet has a Hitting rating of 15. Does this mean that he can separate a puck carrier from the puck (definition of Hitting in FHM) as well as a larger player with a 15 rating in Hitting?

I stand to be corrected, but I don't think Yamamoto can separate people from the puck as well as a bigger player with an equal Hit rating. My impression has always been these attributes work in tandem. That is, the game's algorithm is using multiple factors to determine a specific outcome.

Would be good to hear from a dev on this though.

In addition to the Hitting rating, the relative Strengths of the hitter and target, the Aggression of the hitter, and the relative positions of the players all have a significant effect on whether or not the hit occurs. When it does occur, the effect on the player being hit is influenced by the Hitting rating of the hitter, the relative weights of the two players, and the puckhandler's Strength.

Thank you very much for this helpful answer. I am loathe to burden the developers with too many questions, so I try to limit my inquiries. For those that I DO ask I appreciate the time and consideration that they are given.

Is using "On ice decisions" working as intended? Without it games were a lot more random for me, turning it on makes most games end up me winning with huge margin. Feels like cheating to me, but I like to use it because I'm not always really understanding what to fix in the tactics otherwise.

Edit:
I like the assistant comments during play, hope to see more of it in the future, there could be like option to turn it on/off or some kind of levels, so you could choose the amount of helping comments from him. Example: I chose tactics, but it seems my OZ tactics are not working, the assistant might suggest to change it for specific reasons.

Lots of good info here, thanks Jeff!

When a historical game reaches the current season, it converts to a custom game so it can continue to produce new players in future years. The non-major leagues are coded specifically for historical mode, though, so they have to be shut off at that point.

So what happens to talent development at that point?

For the hidden attribute "aging" does a lower number mean they age slower or faster?

Sorry if this has been answered, I did a quick search and only saw an FH6 thread pop up where it was discussed, but not which way the attribute works. The manual also doesn't say which was the attribute works. The manual says which way the development rate works, so I figured that one out.

Thanks,

Ryan

For most of the hidden attributes the higher the better so, on the surface at least, it would seem a little odd if they reversed that pattern here... Just thinking out loud.

The higher the Aging number, the later the player's decline will begin. It used to control development speed as well, but we split that into a separate attribute, Development Rate, a couple of years ago. With that one, a lower number means faster development (to stay consistent with how it was working with Aging earlier.)

It uses the normal development routines (even if the historical game had annual recalculation turned on - it'll switch when the game converts to a custom one.)

Sometimes it seems, the more you learn about this game, the more there is to learn...

Sorry, I meant what do you do with prospects who need to develop further but aren't ready for the major league. You can't send them to the minors.

I believe it reverts into the previous system (or what is used when you don't have minors) where teams have a Reserve List which acts like a farm team although they may not gather any stats.

What determines who gets picked as assistant coach on staff panel, and why can't we pick him?

You mean at the top? He's your best rated assistant.

I noticed that when I start a game unemployed in Commissioner Mode and then use the Take Over Team option that the attribute ratings of players stay the same, even when the team scout ratings for talent and potential differ from the consensus opinion by one or more stars. Is that how the scouting mechanism is supposed to work?
