When you start in past years how does draft work?

So I am curious if say I started in 1986. Would each year the players drafted on certain teams for the following seasons be drafted by them or do i do each draft and rewrite history? Or do I have the option to do either or?

And then free agency I assume would just be wide open each year?

You have the option to have them import on their real teams or hold a draft; however, the players won’t necessarily be in the same draft year that they were in real life. The default setting is for the draft to be in December, and the players in the draft will be the players who played their first professional game the following year. This is because the game uses their real stats to develop ratings, and there aren’t any stats before they appeared in real life games.

My league always seems to run out of players. Usually done by the 6th round. Not sure what I am doing wrong in settings.

Are you using real minors enabled? I believe the draft can be set up so only the next year's MLB'ers are available or it can be the whole draft class.

I think it was the auto import historical rookies being checked. Ran a few tests. Thank you
