I like Escobar, he's been slumpy for a while but maybe that's how he goes. Unbelievable throw from 3B the other day in Dante's Inferno Stadium too.

NEW YORK -- Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar missed Thursday’s game against the Brewers due to what manager Buck Showalter called a “non-workplace event.” Neither Showalter nor other Mets officials clarified further, except to say that the team would know more on Friday.

“That’s all I can really say legally,” Showalter said.

Escobar does appear to be suffering from some sort of medical issue, as Showalter cited HIPAA laws in explaining why he could not comment further. The manager also noted that he checked in multiple times with trainers about Escobar’s status during the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Brewers. But when asked directly if Escobar was injured, Showalter declined to comment. Mets general manager Billy Eppler also declined comment, as did a team spokesman. Escobar did not appear in the Mets’ dugout during the game.

I love reading this thread because a great many folks are in here expecting the inevitable wheels to fall off, and yet it has not happened yet. Of course if it does I will be rightfully roasted. The Mets are a really good team. Once Degrom and Scherzer come back they will be a force to be reckoned with. Did you ever think that at this point in the year the Mets would have the most runs scored in baseball?

This will be an apology to Drew Smith, who I lumped in with Eric Hanhold and Jacob Rhame and other bums and called the whole lot of them "terrible relievers" on page 29 of this thread.

I am also sorry for never remembering you when I go over the box score of a Mets night game and under pitching I see "Smith, Dr", and each and every time I wonder, who the heck is this Doctor Smith and why is he pitching for the Metsies? I really do like you a whole bunch, and I could totally pick you out of a lineup with Sergio Romo, Hank Conger, and Johnny Cueto. IF you wear your uniform.
