Retire according to history

Has anyone ever tried to use retire according to history when playing random debut? Is it even possible? I guess if the game used the final year of a players career to trigger retirement, it might be possible, but if it uses the actual year it wouldn't. Does that even make sense? I really should think about work things, instead of being at work thinking about OOTP things. Ugh!

Don’t know but while we’re at it, how about players miss season according to history or even having to turn development on? I just assumed you would have to all these but never actually checked it. Maybe I’ll check it out.

In the limited test I just did, game disregards the “retire according to history” check block.

I had a feeling that would be the case.

Yeah, I'm not seeing it happen in the OFA League either, although I had put that down to my manually importing players.

Not sure why it doesn't work, it being an RD league makes no difference - it all revolves around a player's retirement age. Could well be a bug.

Could be that the retirements are triggered by the actual year the player retired....Example, Al Kaline would retire after the 74 season, not at age 39.

I suspect that is the case, which kinda makes it a bug and one that you'd think could be easily fixed. Maybe post it in the Bug Forum and see what they say?

I have another retire according to history question and I might as well ask it here instead of starting another thread.

Have any of you rolled for extended periods of time using "retire according to history" and if so, have you did so during expansion years?

If I start in say 1947 and turn retire according to history on, will the expansion teams in 1961 and 62 populate with enough players to fill the active rosters? Injuries turned off, of course. Or, do you have to do some meddling to get rosters usable?

Of course, one of the ways this would work best is to just use real transactions. Problem is, the AI refuses to maintain full active rosters when using real transactions, often resulting in teams playing shorthanded,. Nothing like seeing a team have a bullpen era of 7+, only to realize they only have 4 guys in the pen and all of them are gassed.

With random debut, I tried it once long ago in a previous version of the game. Most players retired I think. I think I was playing starting in 1960 or something, and all the pre-1960s players were gone when the first season ended. But if you are playing starting in 1901, I see no reason why any players from after that year in real life should retire.
