Regarding my earlier Drew Smith post.......

Pete's in a bit of a slump, but at least Lindor was right there when needed and socked home four runs in a 5-3 win.

Taijuan looked fine. Can he go every third day or so?

I ******* hate Jon Berti. Hitting .760 against the Mets. That CS in the ninth was sweet though.

Poor Don Mattingly. Went home last night and ate his cap with no condiments but salt.

The highlight of the game though wasn't Lindor's bases-clearing double, or Mattingly's outfit coming up short on every single challenge, or the two old guys doing shenanigans with paper rolls in the first row - nope, the highlight of the game was Willians Astudillo rumbling out an infield single with his blond pony tail flying in the wind. I can't help myself, I like that guy

"We have so many coaches, why not have an IT guy?"

"Looks like Captain Kirk's phaser!"

"Are the Marlins Stallings, or are they ready to Pop?"

If GKR ever retire, I must stop watching baseball.

The best thing you can say about this game today is that Nick Fortes didn't end it with one where you can grumble over how "this is a homer in only four of 30 ballparks" or the such. That one was out in EVERY ballpark. By A LOT.

I have one more.

The best thing you can say about this game today is that Justin Verlander will one day be in the Hall of Fame, and they didn't croak with one outfield hit against Stubby McRomperson ...

We were at the game in Hartford last night where Max had a rehab start. 8 Ks in 4.2 innings. He was hit pretty hard in the third and topped out at 96mph on the fastball.

Andres Gimenez with a walkoff homer for the Clevelanders.

I have only made it to the third inning of last night's game outrageously shoved onto Crapple TV Plusminus Whatever-I-Don't-Give-A-****, and as if being down 1-0 to the Rangers is not enough, if that broadcast crew fawns about baseballs for kids one more time, I'm gonna - ... uh...

I don't have much leverage, do I?

I could go on a bit about how the lady broadcasters are shaming Chris Young into giving up his balls, too, but I will forego that topic for the greater good.

Just this much: should I ever get over to your island and to a Mets game, and caught a baseball, I'm keeping it. I'm not gonna hand my precious baseball up to a snotty-nosed half-pint.

The Giants and Mets are playing nonleague games, so I'm putting my usual disinterest to good use catching up on shows and editing my next game setup...

and scrabbling for foul balls may be the dumbest US baseball tradition* there is, much less trampling women and children for it. MLB goes through like 6m baseballs in a year. Even worse are those "snot-noses" (I love the Italian word, "moccioso", that has the same double meaning) that run down to the rail to beg screechingly for balls every 5 seconds. Your parents paid AT LEAST $100 for your ticket, and now you're going to yell at the Dominican kid until he gives you a baseball? There's a clot near the RF end of the Mets dugout that is particularly self-entitled.

*close second: booing when the pitcher throws to 1B. It was understandable in the 70s when teams would throw over 5000x in a row to try to catch Billy North or Davey Lopes or someone, but now it's just funny.

I wish we had at least two or three healthy starting pitchers worth the oxygen, so we could stop giving away games by means of "Free-for-all" Williams.

Who is SO BAD, for the life of me I can never remember his first name. Because I only ever yell the last name of players that annoy the living crap out of me.

You know, unlike "PEEEEEEETE!!!"

Or "JEFF MCNEIL!!!"

There's not a lot of things you can win with a battery of Carrasco and McCann these days. Not the lottery, not a beauty contest, and certainly not a baseball game.

Supposedly Jacob deGrom, Bigfoot's cousin, was sighted near a ballpark in St. Lucie Florida! And I thought Scherzer was supposed to be back next turn, whenever that is.

Lots of weird things are sighted in Florida. Usually alligators sleeping on top of golf carts or something.

No, this comment is not going anywhere.

But neither is the golf cart.

Tuesday! In 95°F heat and the Cincy shoebox. Not a great mix for a convalescing senior citizen.

Then again, the Reds' lineup is about the MLB equivalent of the Volkssturm, so it might yet work out for the Metsies.

I think the Mets will cruise to the Division title. The Braves are a mediocre team, weak and suspect pitching, and they are not going to pull off a second miracle at the trade deadline, by “renting” a bunch of outfielders. My Phillies are improving, but too far back to challenge for anything but a cheap Wild Card spot.

They are 2.5 back and the second-best team in baseball from May 1st onwards

The Braves won’t have to do anything at the deadline. They will get Soroka back in August and anything he gives them is just extra.
And Albies will come back from his broken foot.

They may not win the division, but Baseball reference has them at a 94.5 % chance to make the playoffs.

Back to back championships are unlikely in any sport. But they are hardly a weak team.

That was a dull, dull game. Scherzer coming back at 100% out of the gate is great though. And speaking of weak teams, the Mets' bullpen looks as Metsy as ever

This is a very nice example of wishful thinking. If the Mets aren't hearing footsteps...they should be.

The box score from last night's 10-inning, 8-3 win over the Reds makes me glad that sometimes I just can't watch it. That would have been four hours of agony with a sour taste afterwards.

How does Pete have four hits with *neither* a run scored nor one driven in? And that's only the start of the multitude of weirdnesses in there!
