The Action Baseball League enters into the Eighties
The Action Baseball League is an association of 24 fictional professional baseball organizations who compete in rival conferences for the Grand Championship of Baseball. In 2022, with the discovery of OOTP, ABL prime was established as a re-imagining of the Action Baseball League legacy. ABL consists of the National Baseball Conference (NBC) and the American Baseball Conference (ABC). Each conference has eastern, central, and western divisions of four teams. Care has been taken to have balance between Northern and Southern cities including both coasts. Each conference conducts a 162-game championship season where each member plays their conference rival 12 games per season, six games in each ballpark (96 games). Division rivals play each other 22 games each season, 11 ball games in each home park (66 games). Each conference crowns four champions: three Division Champs and one Wild-Card Champ (which is the non-division champion with the best record). The Grand Tournament of Champions (GToC) establishes the two conference representatives who compete in the Grand Championship Series. Conference seeding for the GToC: #1 Division Champion with the best record. #2 DC with the second-best record. #3 remaining DC. #4 Wild Card Champion. #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3. The tournament consists of three seven-game series: Division Championship Series (DCS), Conference Championship Series (CCS), and Grand Championship Series (GCS). First and Second seeds have home field advantage in the DCS. Higher seed has the advantage in the CCS and the team with the best record has the advantage in the GCS. Ties are settled by alternating between conferences. Beginning with the 1981 season, the Wild-Card Champion will no longer play a division rival in the Division Championship Series. If the #1 seed is a team in the same division, the #4 seed will play the #2 seed instead. Other items of note: • no interleague play • leaguewide designated hitter • annual interconference All-Star game in July • each team is represented in the All-Star game • There will be no team movement or league expansion during the 50 years of planned seasons 1972 – 2022. • Each team has an owner, general manager, field manager, coaching staff, ballpark, and scouting system that influences how it is managed and led. I do not intervene in any way with any of the teams. I’m simply enjoying watching the story of this unique league unfold.
