Game crashes on opening day

On an iPad using standard season. Started the new game. Set up the team I choose. Made some trades before the season. Clicked on playing the opener. Got all the way to start game. The sound came on and the game crashes taking me back to the iPad home page. I have over 50 gigs of available storage I even deleted the game and started over. Same thing happens each time I try to play the first game.

Only crashes on 2022 season

I loaded the 2001 historical season and then advanced to playing the first game. Hit start game and it all loaded fine. It looks like I can’t load and play the 2022 season.

This sounds like a memory issue, could I ask what device you are on?

Thanks Wil. I’m on a 6th Gen IPad It has 2 m ram and over 50 G of available free space. I’m on the latest version I iOS mobile.

Crash on game start

I’m also running this on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I’ve had zero problems but, the 12 has 6 m of ram. So Will is probably right. I’m afraid unless you have a device you bought in the last two years, this game won’t work.

The good thing is that you don't need a crazy high-end device to run the game. 2GB of RAM is the min (which is what the 6th Gen iPad has), but it's totally playable if you configure the settings.
The main setting that uses RAM is the audience detail. If you set it to simplified then you'll almost certainly have no more issues.
However if you like the animated audience (like I do), then I'd recommend playing around with the audience quality and audience animation. You can probably play with the detailed audience if you have those two set to the lowest.

Let me know if those suggestions help

Game crashes

Will, I thought you had it. I adjusted the crowd to low and simplified and the game started. Got through almost the entire game before it crashed. Started it again and got through the entire game and it crashed when I clicked the return button. Any other ideas??

Game continues to crash

Game loads and plays but continues to crash. I save during the game and that’s the only way I’ve gotten through a game

Hm this is strange then. Is there any play in particular that seems to cause the crash. Perhaps a homerun or something like that?

Game crashes

It’s crashed on plays ending, the game ending. Doesn’t seem to have a pattern.

Same here on iPad Air 2. Weirdly, this only happens with the standard MLB 2022 startup. Historical and fictional leagues have been ok so far (in limited use).

Game crashes

Yes, same here. I’ve had no issue with the historical league. Only thing I can think of is, the 2022 season has full roster of minor leagues that simulate games each day. Perhaps that’s what’s causing the extra ram use.

To test that out I started a fictional league with the max 40 teams plus full minors. I skipped through spring training to opening day and it started and ran fine. So it doesn’t seem to be that…

Hey all, I've been doing of bunch of investigation into these issues on my end as well. From what I can tell from all the trace files this definitely still points to a ram issue.

For example in many of the traces it says something like;
Physical memory: 1,279 MB
or Physical memory: 1,750 MB

But from my testing, the app may use up to 1,500MB when running 3D with default settings in standard 2022 games, which is why we say the min RAM is 2GB.
The reason you're only seeing this in standard games I think is simply because there's much more player data and stuff in those games, versus fictional ones which we create fresh.

That being said, when I use simplified audiences I can get it down to using 1,300MB of memory instead. However this still comes close to the limit on some devices.

For the moment, please try to close down any background processes that may be running on the device because some apps will continue to run even if you just put them in the background.
And in the meantime I'm going to add some extra logging that I hope will clarify the exact issues we're running into here for next patch.

Ok so I've added the memory error prompt to iOS, so it will boot you if the device triggers a memory warning. You can disable it in the settings, but it'll still log memory warnings, so after the next patch hopefully we can see if this is a significant problem.

I didnt want to start a new thread so I am posting here. Either its a coincidence or a bug. I am 63 games into a season (playing out games) and the three times a game went beyond 10 innings the game crashed. The first time when I reopened the app the game was completed (with a different result-a 9 inning game) and the other two I had to replay from the beginning.

Hm this actually sounds like it could be something different. I'll see if I can reproduce this, what device are you on? Thanks!

*EDIT*
I've played out a game on iphone in the 10th inning but haven't had a crash. Is there anything in particular that happens before the crash, or when exactly does the crash occur?

I am playing on an 8th generation iPad running ios 15.6.1 The three times it happened I was past the 10th inning and the game just closed when I hit the continue button, mid inning. Like I said, could be a coincidence but I only went past the 10th inning three times and it happened all three. This time I was in the 12th, I couldn't tell you what inning it happened in the other two. If it matters, I am playing historical.
