Suggestions for OOTP24
OK I love OOTP but get frustrated at how the quality of the Negro league simulation isn't up to the game's overall quality. Please consider the following:
1) The data on the players are from the Seamheads database but the numbers almost never match, names are misspelled and DOB and place of birth don't match. This work is just sloppy. These are now recognized as major leaguers, please treat them as such. 2) Add the Eastern Colored League (ECL) in the 1920s they played the NNL for the World series 3) Add some of the crazy parks they played in. Especially in the ECL I mean the Oval 180'LF 358'LC 292'CF 286'RC 180'RF. No one could hit a triple there except Cool Papa Bell and even then it was claimed he missed second to do it. Any park that center field is not the deepest part of the park by 66' has my admiration (the fact I can get a wind blown infield fly for a homer is where I want to bat. Makes the Baker Bowl look cavernous!) PLEASE LET'S HONOR THESE MAJOR LEAGUERS BY GETTING IT RIGHT! ![]() |

2. i agree but aren't several of those team in the OOTP version? 3. that would be on the 3D creators like Silvam. OOTP has come a long way in a short period of time getting the NeL better. Prior to 23 i had to hand edit incoming NeL players to make sure that they play all the positions they did IRL. On my KC Monarchs team, they import very well except for Rube Foster. Rap Dixon has become on of my newest favorites because he can play 7 positions, including P.

ECL in OOTP 23
Sadly for the 1920's when I imported the Negro leagues the ECL teams nor the players showed up (no Phil Cockrell, Judy Johnson, Pop Lloyd et cetera for 1925 no Hilldale club)

It's been acknowledged in a couple different threads that the NeL is ripe for an overhaul. The data on the NeL players has grown by leaps and bounds since they were put into the game.
Here's two threads of late that came up after OOTP23's release: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=337005 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=337207 |

Below - from another thread - may sorta-partially address the part about the leagues that included & not included in OOTP... A gamer had asked why the Hilldale club was not included in OOTP. A fair question...
Quote:
As most of us know, OOTP includes the Negro Leagues as part of its minor league module. This is line with how OOTP treats the Federal League. And - without getting into a debate on how OOTP should treat Negro Leagues - just because MLB has declared that they are to be given major league status, that probably shouldn't change. The reason I say that is because OOTP's minor league module already handles - near-flawlessly - massive league and franchise changes, relocations, foldings, startups, whatever... And so - assuming the data is available and that OOTP can get over the hurdles on accurately rating NeL players (my understanding is that this is underway and big strides have been made), there wouldn't otherwise be any obstacles to including other NeL's, such as the Eastern Colored League, Negro Southern League - and one-offs such as the 1929 American Negro League. There were also many years - especially in the 30's - where there were a bunch of historically-significant independent Negro teams. These could - for OOTP purposes - be rolled into a "Negro Independent League" simply to get them into the game. Provided, of course, that the player data exists... |
