At least we can likely expect a well-polished game once it releases!

Obviously not a completely polished product, because that's pretty much impossible when it comes to software developement.

Not nessecarily. If I read correctly the early OOTP games had historical without the MLB license. Just meant the team info had to be generic teans

I think that's right. Made-up names for all the teams (Boston Beaners, Philadelphia Floaters, whatever) and players with made-up names (but identifiable through their age, height, position). At least, I think that's how it would work. Then any individual game player could edit the names to confirm to real players if they wished.

Im just assuming that FHM already has everything historically accurate and to go back and change everyones name, all team names and all league names ect.. would take a long time just for a potential of waiting a few more days for the contract with the NHL to get settled.

I'm just an impatient as the next person but I'd rather not have to edit everyone myself within the confines of the game.. that would take bloody weeks.

I don't think you need the license in order to be able to have the player names in the game. There are games like Draft Day Sports and the Action PC games that don't have licenses and still have the actual player names in their games. The team names and logos yes, but I don't think the same applies to the players (with the exception of player photos).

First Franchise Hockey Manager didn't have the NHL License. That came with FHM 3 I believe.. Names were there, but logos were not. I still have the original FHM.

I actually have FHM 2014(the first one) FHM 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 on my computer still. I will be adding 9 when it is released.

Unfortunately, there's not much to update: the good news I got last week apparently wasn't accurate, and we're back to waiting for final approval on the license (although we have been assured that once that comes, assuming we're OK with what's presented to us, the deal can be executed the same day.)

Obviously, we can't continue this way indefinitely, and there's a point at which we would have to abandon the license if it's preventing us from releasing the game within a reasonable amount of time. But we're not there yet; the licensing arm of the NHL has been very accommodating in trying to get this done, and we really don't want to burn that bridge unless it's a very dire situation. (And just to clear up the speculation on what the license involves: it's the NHL's logos, uniforms, and other official imagery. Not team or player names.)

As for the game itself, we're pretty much in what would normally be the final pre-release steps at this point - final testing and fixes, getting it approved for release on the various sales portals, and so on. So once we've got the OK, we should be able to move forward very quickly.

Thanks for the update.

Agreed burning that bridge is definitely not the ideal situation. I will tell you I don't play for any of the things covered by the license though. Still a good idea to stay on their good side. I trust you guys will make the right decision. Appreciate all you do. I'm getting FHM 9 either way.

Thanks for the update. I'm somewhat surprised the NHL hasn't acted on this more expeditiously -- it's almost found money for them, even though in the scheme of their marketing bounty, I suppose it's small potatoes (or pucks). I'm in the camp that really doesn't use the things the license seemingly covers (though I understand that others -- perhaps many others -- do).

In that case, would it cause an issue with the NHL to release the game as is (without their images, etc) then add them in a patch once everything is signed? This way you can get your sales, your customers are happy and they get their payment whenever they get around to signing?

That sounds problematic at best.

That sounds like a interesting work around. Especially since there would be several FHM GMs out there who would probably post The required NHL logos and images downloaded from previous versions
