Postseason has no end!
Yep, you read that right. I'm playing in a standalone league (not online) in which I am the commish and also GM/field manager for one of the teams.
We concluded the regular season without issue, and then the Divisional Series and League Championship Series as well. My team was eliminated in the latter. I simmed the rest of the postseason, through the World Series. But as I look at the schedule... there's nothing scheduled. I mean, no Free Agency Signing Period, no Arbitration Hearings, no nothing. I've simmed the game up through 13 January 2023, and I feel like the offseason would have started up by now. In my Game Settings | Options, under Schedule Settings, I see the note "Changes only take effect when regenerating the schedule" and farther down the page "The Schedule can only be changed in the offseason or preseason!" So the game thinks the season is still ongoing, and I don't know how to rectify it. Under the League (ML, in my case) heading, the top menu selection is "Playoff Coverage." This is probably not a bug, since I couldn't find any instances in the forums. I suppose if there's no immediate solution I will have to wait for the release of OOTP 24, whenever that may be. Anyone have an idea? How can I convince the program that the postseason is over (a WS champ has been declared) and that the offseason has begun? |

Standard MLB Game played from April forward or a Live Start game? Or is it fictional or historical?

Yes, this is most likely the issue. The offseason doesn't begin until all minor leagues are finished for the year.

I just checked all of the minor leagues. Each of them is currently in the offseason, with "Offseason Center" being the top choice in their league menu. |

First step is to make sure the playoffs actually ended, and no games got deleted. Do you see a winner in the playoff tree?
Next step is to make sure that you don't have any stray games scheduled. If you go to the edit schedule page, you can try to use the evaluation tools there to see if somehow you have games scheduled for the next year somehow. |

Yes - those blasted Giants won. I hadn't used the schedule evaluation report before. The top grid shows all of the MLB teams and how many games they have scheduled. I checked all of the teams with a game scheduled for the playoffs, and those numbers check out (comparing with the playoff tree) - I don't see any strays. Every team played 162 games in the regular season except for two who played and completed a tiebreaker game. The other grids in the report have each team's games broken down by day of the week. EDIT: I just checked the other report, the grid report. The last games scheduled are for (in game) 2 Nov and 3 Nov. Those games were both completed. Last edited by DanF; 10-21-2022 at 11:34 AM. |

Well, I do have an update to this issue. On the league's Scores screen, I clicked on the Auto-Play button. At the bottom of the drop down was "End of Playoffs." This entry appears after one "7/1/2023: International FA Signing Begins."
I've simmed the game up to June 3, 2023 (!!). Simming paused only when there was an injury or illness to someone on my Shortlist. So it seems that somehow the "End of Playoffs" for 2022 was scheduled incorrectly, right? July 2023 seems late for the 2022 playoffs to end. I can sim the game up through this end of playoffs thing. What I'm wondering now, though, is whether I can change the in-game date after I've concluded, officially, the 2022 campaign - in order to start 2023 in April 2023. |

The "to end of playoffs" sim note isn't on a specific date, it will simply advance until it sees the game is no longer in playoff mode.
Something definitely seems to have gotten missed in scheduling events. I would suggest manually adding in the "off-season begins" event, and I think that will force the game to continue to off-season mode. Other than the cases mentioned above (minor leagues not completed, or stray game on the calendar), I'm not aware of any cases that would have missed that. Ideally if you have a backup from much earlier, I would go back to that and try to manually schedule the event. |

Drat. It's in the middle of simming right now. I'll need to wait until it stops, usually for news involving shortlisted players. And then we'll see what's what. |

I was able to manually the "off-season begins" event. We're in the middle of said off-season now; actually, the preseason has just begun.
All of the usual off-season stuff did wind up occurring: awards, free agency, winter meetings, arbitration, and so forth. This is all great, except the in-game calendar is at 20 August 2023. The next event is "Roster expansion" on 1 September. Then all-star voting on 14 October and HoF voting on 26 November. The regular season concludes on 21 February 2024. All of which is better than a neverending playoff run, so I thank everyone in this thread for their help. Is there a way to modify the in-game DATE? Probably not, since it would mess up past events as well. I'd rather have the regular season begin in, well, April 2023. You know, be more on a regular schedule. |

Update
I was able to modify the schedule so that spring training begins on 1 March and the regular season about a month later. I'm in the offseason at the moment.
The caveat is that ST begins, in-game, on 1 March 2024. Yep, we're one year into the future here. I've taken care of most offseason items, and we're currently at 29 February 2024. Because the 2022 offseason didn't end when it should have, the whole schedule got thrown out of whack. What I have now is workable. In terms of historical data, a few players will have stats from 2023 (those games were simmed before I could remove them from the schedule), although most won't. It'll look weird, but it's acceptable. So next year (2023) when the latest version of OOTP comes out, I'll be playing the 2024 season instead of 2023. Unless there's a way to globally modify the date, but I suspect that's not an option for the very good reason that it'll mess up all of the interconnected schedules. |
