Actually, my point is that he shouldn't be leading off in place of Nimmo, who has an OBP that's 51 points higher. But whatever. You guys saved us from throwing money at Baez, so we owe you.

In the Mets lineup for sure. In Detroit, with this horrendous mess of a 40 man Nimmo is middle of the order. Baez deal still upsets me greatly. The one time you guys don’t back up the brinks truck.

Give me Contreras who has a good personality, can handle a pitching staff, and will add some much needed pop to the lineup. If Dingler does make the club, let him learn behind Contreras. Since he didn’t get dealt at the deadline last year maybe the Tigers can land him. Maybe he has a good relationship with Baez and he can help recruit. This is not a deep free agent class at the position. If the Tigers can’t sign Contreras then Christian Vazquez becomes a must.
Love the post, but I wanted to discuss this part. Contreras received a qualifying offer from the Cubs, which means the Tigers would stand to lose their third highest pick (3d round I believe). The 2023 draft class is shaping up to contain a lot of good to great talent, with an abundance of college players. Do you still think that's the right move?

From my viewpoint, the team is on what I like to call a "fast rebuild", but I'm not sure a guy like Contreras fits that. Then again, like you said, the Tigers need catching and the next couple of years is sorely lacking catching talent, so maybe it is the right move.

I think I lean with you in that you can't give up the pick. If you were close to being a contender it would be a different story. I’m pretty sure this new group is chomping at the bit to prove themselves in the draft as well. Christian Vazquez would be my second choice. Nowhere near the player Contreras is. More of a quick band aid and then you really hope Dingler is up soon.

No worries, I'm a member as well . I like a lot of what Harris says, especially the lack of mentioning the catcher need. I read that as he's looking to bring Tucker Barnhart back for a couple of seasons. I was not a fan of his words about Baez. I get you have to be positive since you're paying the guy a lot, but be realistic please...if you could get any of the top 4 shortstops you'd do in a heartbeat and move someone to second.

Detroit has so many weak spots it is hard to know where to start.

How soon you think they should bring up Wenceel Perez? All of next year at AAA, half-season (assuming he doesn't struggle) or just bring him up now and save the $$$ on failed Schoops and hoped-for Wongs?

Where would you put him? He's a defensive liability everywhere they've put him in the minors and is a mediocre hitter at best.

Other than pitching, the Tigers minor league system is sub-par and they're development of all players is terrible. Honestly, if I were the Tigers, I sit out this offseason other than filling empty spots with short term deals or potential trade bait. The team is not even close to ready to compete in the AL Central as three other teams already are. I'd like to see the Tigers spend a lot of resources on fixing their internal pipelines (development, coordinators, scouting, analytics, etc.).

I'm not Scott Harris though, just a sideline GM.

Let the cuts begin: Outfielder Victor Reyes among six players cut from 40-man roster

Interesting take. I haven't seen him and apparently he's unimpressive at 3B, but his 2B stats have been pretty good of late, albeit he took a step back at Erie. Small sample size (30 games) there, though.

Put it together with the year he just had at bat (.295/.369/.534, accelerating with the promotion to AA) and I'd at least have hope. Maybe he's hit his limit, but maybe he's going to be better than Schoop, at least.

(And more bang for the buck than Kolten Wong at $9 million or whatever he's asking.)

I wouldn't write off a 22-year-old coming off of his best season. That said, perhaps I've missed something, as I'm only going from the stats.

I’m really interested to see what Harris does. I agree he should stand pat and fix the internal structure of the organization first but I’m not sure he will take that route. I also do not think the fanbase is patient at all with the prospect of another dire season. Which they will almost assuredly have but to stand pat and let it happen may be tough to swallow. So I guess that is the interesting part. Will Harris feel any outward pressure to do something for the sake of doing it?

In other news Kolten Wong had his option picked up. Too bad, Amazin sure had fun raking me over the coals for that one.

Tigers non-tender Candelario and the Castros

Not much of a surprise there, imo.

It was a lost season, but he's only 27. If they think he's healthy (including the mental issues), it's probably worth it. Congrats.

I was sad to see Matt go so I am happy to see him back but that seems like a lot of cheddar for aging damaged goods that they didn't want a year ago.

Agree, but a one-year deal isn't very risky. I think Boyd is just meant to be a fill-in while Mize and Skubal recover. Plus, who knows how Turnball will be in his return after missing 2022.

So glad he didn't sign with the other New York team. Also, it's so interesting to me to see Hall of Fame players hop from team to team as their careers wind down. Never would I have thought Verlander would be pitching for a team in New York.
