Trash Players Taking Jersey Numbers

When starting a historical game when roster is filled with 40+ players, many star players lose their jersey number to half and one star players.

Mike Rogers #71 in Hartford, lost #17 to a player they released.
Bryan Trottier #91 losing #19 to Yvon Vautour.
Anders Hedberg #51 losing #15 to Dean Talafous.
Michel Goulet #61 losing #16 to Pierre Plante.

Those are just a few examples from starting a game in 1979.

It's not game breaking, but still. Would be nice if players with numbers set in database are locked, so players without a set jersey number, can't get those numbers.

But then the game would need some way of resolving where two or more players coincide on the same team with the same preferred number. It might be easier to code in any player with a higher star rating gets to keep the number, idk. I don't do coding.

Looks like these are situations where a number conflict in the database sets off a chain reaction, e.g. Bill Lochead and Pat Conacher both wore 28 for the Rangers in 79-80 (at different points in the season), but if they start the year with them, Lochead gets 28 and Conacher gets 19 as a replacement, which would be Talafous's number, so Talafous gets 15 and Hedberg gets bumped to 51. I'll see if we can sequence the players better (probably older/more talented guys first) to cut down on that type of problem.
