Ultrawide 3440*1440 with OOTP?

With Christmas usually comes a gift certificate that, this year, I am thinking could be used towards a part of the cost of improving my OOTP experience. Currently on a 27" 2560*1440 monitor and thinking of going bigger. IE 34" and 3440*1440. Appreciate any thoughts from users using UW monitors. I'm thinking this would alleviate the overlapping of columns in my view screens that are loaded with data, which would be very nice.

How does it affect OOTP when playing out games in modern view? With the aspect ratio changing from 16*9 to 21*9 does OOTP scale to the ultra width without issue with regard to playing out games?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes, the game render fine in 21:9. I have a 32:9 monitor (5120x1440) but I reduce the game to 21:9 in the settings. Even though the game renders fine at 32:9, some of the menus will not work in 32:9. When I play in 21:9 everything seems to work fine.

It is nice to have the extra territory on the screen too for widgets when playing out games. So yes, the game will render at 21:9 correctly. Your image will not get stretched, you simply get a wider field of view of the game. I think you will enjoy a 21:9 monitor for OOTP games.

Yes I agree with what is said above. I'm on my 2nd UW monitor and won't ever go back. Started out with a 27in running the numbers you posted Sweed. Then back during the heart of Covid, I took my half of the 2nd stimulus and upgraded to a 49 in running on 32x9 5120 x1440 and love it. Couldn't get OOTP to behave at first on hdmi so upgraded to DisplayPort

I love my ultra-wide for OOTP and similar games. The amount of information I can show on the screen is unbelievable and puts me in numbers heaven.

To be clear. Did you need to go to display port for both monitors or, only the second larger one?

Garlon and Cod,

Are you guys on hdmi or display port?

Haven't decided yet, just looking around but, if I go for it I want to make sure I have a DP cable on hand if that is what is needed.

Thanks.

I suggest getting a Displayport cable if your graphics card supports it. I found there is a significant difference in quality for gaming.

I think for 21:9 you at least need HDMI 2.0. If you are going 21:9 save yourself the trouble and get a DP cable.

It will honestly depend on if you're running 21x9 or higher and what the absolute highest your monitor will support. As Garlin mentioned, hdmi 2 .0 should handle 21x9 . On my first UW hdmi was perfectly ok and I saw zero difference. On the newer, bigger UW I gained the high end capability of 5120x1440 and on hdmi it looked horrible. It was stretching out screens something awful. So I had to back down my screen or upgrade to DisplayPort. Considering I don't play other games, the choice was easy, I got a $65 video card upgrade and switched and have never looked back. Also, I didn't keep both monitors. I gave the smaller one to my wife. On the 49, I have enough desk landscape to not need the 2nd anymore. Added in game screen with how my widgets are set up and this is not the largest possible, this is still in windowed mode.

Not looking for top of the line. OOTP is what I play the most and have a ps5 if I want great graphics in a game. I also do a few things where I like to run windows side by side where extra space would be nice. IOW nothing too heavy from a gaming standpoint.

So somewhere around a cap of $450 or so. Just started to look into them so not sure if that kind of money can buy something worthwhile? Like anything else there will be bad reviews mixed in with a lot of good reviews. So if you have any recommendations feel free to share. If that kind of money doesn't buy something worth having that would be good to know too.

I looked at Amazon for a bit and found this Dell
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B095X7RV77...v_ov_lig_dp_it

and..
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8QBBJRZ...v_ov_lig_dp_it

Monoprice..
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=42772

Sites where I've shopped before. Haven't googled for more possibilities yet. Figured before I got too involved I'd post here first for others experiences with UW and OOTP.

You should have no problems in that price range. Mine was originally close to a grand. But I paid more for the size. I was wanting to get away from the dual monitor setup.

Just so you guys know, those of us playing on smaller, older monitors (or on laptops!) are so jealous (and thinking of what Christmas gifts could be exchanged for a new monitor). They say that "software drives hardware" purchases; and with this group it is "OOTP drives monitor purchases" - even if we claim it's productivity and "the need to see those small columns in the spreadsheet". Yeah, right. Nobody is fooled.

I understand. I could never justify dropping almost 1100 on a monitor by itself to Mrs GOAT or myself until the government was handing out free money.

Yeah I've got a large wide-screen monitor and it's TERRIBLE. You will never be able to play OOTP on a smaller monitor ever again, especially not when it comes to playing games. Imagine having every single widget in the game up at maximum size and still being able to see all of the gameplay. And when it comes to lineup and pitching screens, you literally have all of the info you want, plus a bunch of info (like player happiness) you didn't know you wanted until it was there, all available on a single screen.
