2302 CBO Playoffs - Association Semifinals Previews

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (#1, 73-35) vs Finch Farm Four Leafs (#5, 60-49)

Season Series

NB 8, FF 4

How Did They Get Here?

The Party Boys won their fifth straight Brotherhood League Crown.

The Four Leafs finished third in the Brotherhood League but knocked off 4-seed Starlight in the Play-in Series.

CBO Postseason History

NB - 5th Playoff appearance; Won CBO in 2301
FF - 1st Playoff appearance, but won CBO in 2296 tournament.

Prediction

Nordhagen Beach is hurting, but they are still a better team with lots of experience in the postseason. The Boys take this one in four game, 3 games to 1.

Game 1 Lineups

Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (#2, 72-36) vs County Crossing Bloodbugs (#3, 61-48)

Season Series

FtH 6, CC 2

How Did They Get Here?

The Shroud won the Institute League for the third time in the past four seasons, winning the league by 15.5 games.

County Crossing showed that they have built a solid team after being perennial last place their first four seasons. Trades have worked and development has been solid. However, they still play in the same league as Nordhagen Beach, leaving the Bloodbugs as 2nd place in the Brotherhood League for the second-straight season.

CBO Postseason History

FtH - 5th Playoff appearance
CC - 2nd Playoff appearance

Prediction

Fort Hagen is the likeliest to win it all from the NCA. County Crossing will not be able to dethrone them. Shroud in a sweep, 3 to 0.

Game 1 Lineups

Diamond City Swatters (#1, 70-38) vs University Point Deathclaws (#4, 64-44)

Season Series

DC 4, UP 4

How Did They Get Here?

Diamond City won the Railroad League for the 3rd time in the past four seasons. While they surrendered the championship to Nordhagen Beach last season, they were back-to-back champions before that.

The Claws did not reach their goal to repeat as Minutemen League champions, but they did secure second place and then downed defending SCA champion Atom in the Play-in Series.

CBO Postseason History

DC - 5th Playoff appearance, Won CBO in 2299 and 2300
UP - 3rd Playoff appearance

Prediction

University Point got hot to move from potentially missing the playoffs to the 4th seed. However, Diamond City is our predicted champion, so we expect them to handle business here before the SCA Championship Series. Swatters 3, Deathclaws 1.

Game 1 Lineups

Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (#2, 66-42) vs Roxbury Rad Sox (#3, 65-43)

Season Series

JP 5, Rox 3

How Did They Get Here?

Jamaica Plain won the Minutemen League for the first time in team history.

Roxbury got over the hump, jumping from 6th place in the Railroad League in 2301 to 2nd place and the #3 seed. While the team is inexperienced in the playoffs, they have a solid top-to-bottom lineup and pitching staff.

CBO Postseason History

JP - 3rd Playoff appearance
Rox - 1st Playoff appearance

Prediction

Jamaica Plain has had a good overall season, finding ways to move past the Atom Cats for the ML crown. However, Roxbury is an up-and-coming team and may just surprise the CBO. Rad Sox 3, Red Rockets 2.

Game 1 Lineups

#1 Nordhagen Beach vs #5 Finch Farm

Game 1: FF 1 at NB 3

Association Semifinal Game 1 Victory for Nut and Nordhagen Beach

The Association Semifinal got off to a quiet start today, with the host Nordhagen Beach Party Boys taking a low-scoring 3-1 win over the Finch Farm Four Leafs. Nordhagen Beach left-hander Beachboy Nut was marvelous at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The Party Boys now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.

Nut, who was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts, threw 90 pitches over 7 innings, while allowing 1 run.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Nut.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium in Nordhagen Beach.

Game 2: FF 7 at NB 1

In the top of the fourth of a scoreless game, Mahaney hit a 2-run home run to put his team ahead.

"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Mahaney.

Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Finch Family Park.

Game 3: NB 4 at FF 2

Road Win Lifts Nordhagen Beach to 2-1 Lead in ASF

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys moved to within one game of the Association Championship today, downing the Finch Farm Four Leafs on the road at Finch Family Park by a score of 4-2. Party Boys right-hander Tommy Beach had a strong outing. He threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The win gives the Party Boys a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Association Semifinal.

Dirty Dog Sapienza, the 24-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Sapienza contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 1-0.

"I found a nice groove out there," said Beach.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Finch Family Park.

Game 4: NB 2 at FF 1

Party Boys Advance to Association Championship

Despite the best efforts of Joe Mahaney, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys have won the Association Semifinal.

The Finch Farm Four Leafs standout was named series MVP, even though his team lost to Nordhagen Beach 2-1 in the final game, and dropped the series 3-1.

"Hats off to them, they deserve to be moving on," Mahaney said at Finch Family Park after being awarded his MVP trophy. "I just wish I could trade this trophy in for a chance at the Sole Survivor Series."

For their part, the Party Boys celebrated long into the night, as they are now set to move on to the Association Championship.

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys will play against the winner of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and the County Crossing Bloodbugs. The Association Championship schedule will be announced after the Association Semifinal finishes.

#2 Fort Hagen vs #3 County Crossing

Game 1: County Crossing 1 at Fort Hagen 7

Association Semifinal Game 1 Victory for Green and Fort Hagen

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud started the Association Semifinal in style today, downing the visiting County Crossing Bloodbugs at Hubris Comics Park by a score of 7-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Silver Shroud left-hander Derek Green threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball.

Green was in the zone all game. He frustrated County Crossing hitters while giving the Silver Shroud 8 innings of quality work. Green threw 133 pitches, allowing 4 hits and getting 4 punchouts.

"Derek is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Fort Hagen manager Belch Melcher.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hubris Comics Park in Fort Hagen.

Game 2: County Crossing 9 at Fort Hagen 12

Gatekeeper, Silver Shroud Sink Bloodbugs Again in Game 2

When the games really matter, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud put on their best show, beating the County Crossing Bloodbugs by a final score of 12-9 today. Tutton Gatekeeper was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Fort Hagen now leads County Crossing 2-0 in the best-of-5 affair.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Gatekeeper hit a slider from Jesse Bibeault for a 3-run home run. The Silver Shroud, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Gatekeeper.

Game 3: Fort Hagen 0 at County Crossing 1

County Crossing Breaks Through for First Win in Association Semifinal; Now Trails 2-1

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Beantown Brewery Stadium.

Game 4: Fort Hagen 4 at County Crossing 3

Fort Hagen Win Association Semifinal

The Association Semifinal may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, however, are not complaining.

The Silver Shroud were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the County Crossing Bloodbugs to advance to the Association Championship.

Fort Hagen won the final game by a 4-3 count at Beantown Brewery Stadium and the series 3-1.

Silver Shroud third baseman Tutton Gatekeeper was named series MVP, as he hit .385 with a .500 on-base percentage. He added 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 3 runs.

"It's not going to be the last time County Crossing makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Gatekeeper said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day."

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys - Finch Farm Four Leafs series. Nordhagen Beach leads the series 2 games to 1. The Association Championship schedule will be announced after the Association Semifinal finishes.

#1 Diamond City vs #4 University Point

Game 1: University Point 8 at Diamond City 0

Road Win Lifts University Point to 1-0 Lead in ASF

Phlip Wallace and the University Point Deathclaws opened the Association Semifinal in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Diamond City and shutting out the host Swatters at The Great Green Jewel 8-0 to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Wallace, the Deathclaws left-hander, threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball.

Wallace gave University Point a solid start. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 7 innings.

Wallace called the win "a team effort."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel in Boston.

Game 2: University Point 4 at Diamond City 3

Swatters Hammered by Jones, Fall Further Behind in ASF

Riding the 3-hit performance of right fielder Tomas Jones, the University Point Deathclaws got a road win against the Diamond City Swatters, 4-3, in Game 2 of the Association Semifinal today. Jones went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Deathclaws, who now lead the best-of-5 series, 2 games to 0.

In the top of the first, with the game still scoreless, Jones hit a 2-run single to put his team in the lead.

"I felt good up there," said Jones. "I saw the ball well."

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Gwinnett Brewery Park in University Point.

Game 3: Diamond City 10 at University Point 5

Van Benschoten Blasts Deathclaws, Swatters Take Game 3, 10-5

The Diamond City Swatters have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading University Point Deathclaws, winning 10-5 at Gwinnett Brewery Park today. Swatters left fielder Chris Van Benschoten was 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. The win cuts the deficit facing the Swatters to 2-1 in the best-of-5 Association Semifinal.

Oren Gep, the 2299 Red Rocket Rookie Award winner, had a direct impact on the outcome. Gep contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Diamond City up, 3-0.

"This was a good win for us," said Gep. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Gwinnett Brewery Park.

Game 4: Diamond City 3 at University Point 2

Swatters Clip Deathclaws 3-2 in ASF Contest

The Diamond City Swatters and the University Point Deathclaws will take the Association Semifinal to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation today, the Swatters beat the Deathclaws 3-2 at Gwinnett Brewery Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Diamond City shortstop Wally Warwick went 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.

The outcome might have been different had it not been for Warwick. In the top of the seventh inning, when the Swatters were trailing 2-0, Warwick delivered a two-out 3-run home run for Diamond City, giving his team the lead.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Warwick said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

Game 5 is scheduled for Monday at The Great Green Jewel in DC.

Game 5: University Point 4 at Diamond City 2

University Point Moves on to Association Championship

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at The Great Green Jewel as the Association Semifinal stretched to the final game.

It was the University Point Deathclaws feeling the thrill of victory, with a 4-2 win over the Diamond City Swatters, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Association Championship. In the upset series, the road team went 5-0.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. "Congratulations to University Point, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 3-2 series win was shortstop Austin Engill, who was named MVP. He hit .400 with a .478 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 6 runs. In Game 5, he was 3 for 4 with a triple, a home run, a walk, two runs, and two RBI.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The University Point Deathclaws will play against the winner of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets and the Roxbury Rad Sox. The Association Championship schedule will be announced after the Association Semifinal finishes.

#2 Jamaica Plain vs #3 Roxbury

Game 1: Rox 2 at JP 3

Home Field Advantage: Vadim, Jamaica Plain Open Association Semifinal with Win

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets powered past the visiting Roxbury Rad Sox, 3-2, in the opener of the Association Semifinal at Red Rockets Stadium today. Jamaica Plain starting pitcher Digger Vadim threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs, to lead the charge. The Red Rockets now lead the series 1-0.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Red Rockets Stadium in Jamaica Plain.

Game 2: Rox 7 at JP 4

Roxbury Win to Pull Even With Jamaica Plain

In a crucial game, the Roxbury Rad Sox put on their best show, beating the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets by a final score of 7-4 today. Damani Beebe slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Roxbury and Jamaica Plain are now tied at 1 wins apiece in the best-of-5 affair.

Roxbury used a timely hit from Chris Connexx to get the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rad Sox ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Connexx.

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury.

Game 3: JP 4 at Rox 1

Road Win Lifts Jamaica Plain to 2-1 Lead in ASF

Red Rockets right-hander Chris Deathclaw had a strong outing. He threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Red Rockets a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Association Semifinal.

Jamaica Plain used a well-timed hit by Damani Beebe to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Red Rockets ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"We made a couple of mistakes," said Roxbury skipper Coffee Kupp, "and it cost us."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury.

Game 4: JP 5 at Rox 6

Rad Sox Clip Red Rockets 6-5 in ASF Contest

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Roxbury manager Coffee Kupp.

The next game is set to be played for Monday, September 15th , 2302 at Red Rockets Stadium in Jamaica Plain.

Game 5: Rox 5 at JP 8

Jamaica Plain Advances to Association Championship

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets were paced by a strong offensive output from Carney Cornseed as they downed the Roxbury Rad Sox 3-2 to win the Association Semifinal.

Jamaica Plain won the final game by a score of 8-5 at Red Rockets Stadium to send themselves off to the Association Championship.

"I wasn't so much focused on putting up big offensive numbers as I was about ensuring we won the games. So it's mission accomplished there," said first baseman Cornseed, who was named MVP.

For the series, the MVP hit .562 with a .632 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 7 runs.

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Diamond City Swatters - University Point Deathclaws series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Association Championship schedule will be announced after the Association Semifinal finishes.

Can't say I'm surprised the favorites both won in the NCS rather easily, but nice how both SCA series went the distance. Surprised to see Diamond City out, but otherwise all the favorites won

Heh, and the Swatters are out before any of us predicted, I guess we shouldn't quit our days jobs.

Not to say University Point is not worthy, but I also did not foresee Diamond City being the only Top 4 team out before the others. Now let's see what happens in the Association Championships. But, first, some previews of the matchups . . .

2302 CBO Playoffs - Association Championships Previews

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (#1, 73-35) vs Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (#2, 72-36)

Season Series

NB 4, FtH 4

Apr 9-10 @ NB - NB 2-1, NB 5-4
Jun 3-4 @ FtH - NB 4-2, NB 10-2
Aug 5-6 @ NB - FtH 5-2, FtH 7-0
Aug 12-13 @FtH - FtH 2-1, FtH 11-3

How Did They Get Here?

The Party Boys defeated 5th-seed Finch Farm, 3 games to 1. In the three wins, the Nordhagen Beach pitching staff held the Four Leafs to a total of four runs. Though Finch Farm's Joe Mahaney won the Series MVP, Nordhagen Beach's Jonathan Angelou went 4 for 10 with 2 HR and 3 RBI.

The Silver Shroud downed third-seed County Crossing, 3 games to 1. In their three victories, the Shroud accounted for 23 runs, with the lone loss coming in a 1-0 pitcher's duel. Tutton Gatekeeper earned MVP honors for Fort Hagen by going 5 for 13 with 2 HR and 6 RBI.

CBO Postseason History

NB - 5th Playoff appearance; Won CBO in 2301
FtH - 5th Playoff appearance

NB vs FtH - 5th Matchup

The Party Boys and Silver Shroud will meet in the playoffs for an astounding fifth-straight season. Fort Hagen won the series in the first three matchups (2298-2300), but the Boys took last season's Association Semifinal matchup, 3 games to 1, on their way to the Sole Survivor Series crown.

The last time these two teams met up as a 1 vs 2 matchup came in 2300 when the Shroud upset Nordhagen Beach. Fort Hagen then fell in the Sole Survivor Series for the second-straight season to the Diamond City Swatters.

Prediction

This season series has been streaky with the Boys taking the first four games of the series, but Fort Hagen won all four games in August. Nordhagen Beach is not as healthy as the Shroud in what is a pretty even matchup. Still, Nordhagen Beach's Beachboy Nut should pitch at least two games. We will give those two games to the Boys. However, in the end, we expect Fort Hagen to hit and pitch their way to the 2302 Sole Survivor Series with a 4-2 series advantage.

Game 1 Lineups

Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (#2, 66-42) vs University Point Deathclaws (#4, 64-44)

Season Series

JP 7, UP 5

May 23-25 @JP - JP 4-1, JP 5-4, JP 6-5
Jun 13-15 @UP - JP 4-3, JP 7-3, JP 8-2
Aug 15-17 @JP - JP 2-1, UP 5-3 (12), UP 6-5
Aug 22-24 @UP - UP 4-3, UP 4-3, UP 5-4 (12)

How Did They Get Here?

The Red Rockets won the Minutemen League, earning the second seed in the playoffs. In the Association Semifinals, Jamaica Plain edged Roxbury, 3 games to 2. Carney Cornseed exploded in the series, going 9 for 16 with 2 HR and 5 RBI to earn MVP honors. Damani Beebe also had MVP-level numbers, hitting 3 HR and knocking in 10.

The Deathclaws finished 2nd in the Minutemen League behind Jamaica Plain, earning the 4th seed in the playoffs. They then defeated defending South Charles Association champions, the Atom Cats, in the Association Semifinal, 2 games to 1. Barker Cocoa led the offensive charge in that series, going 6 for 10 with a home run and 4 RBI. In the next round, the Claws upset #1 seed Diamond City, 3 games to 2. Midseason acquisition Austin Engill paid off, earning the Series MVP honors. In the five games, he went 8 for 20 with 3 HR and 5 RBI.

CBO Postseason History

JP - 3rd Playoff appearance
UP - 3rd Playoff appearance

JP vs UP - 2nd matchup

Both Jamaica Plain and the Deathclaws broke into the playoffs for the first time in 2300, where they met in the Play-in Series. In that series, the Rockets edged University Point, 2 games to 1, which had been the Rockets' only series victory before this season.

Last season, University Point was the #1 seed entering the playoffs. They defeated Vault 81 in the Association Semifinals before being upset by Atom in the Association Championship, 4 games to 3.

Regardless of which team wins this series, the winner will be entering the Sole Survivor Series for the first time.

Prediction

While Jamaica Plain leads the season series 7 games to 5, this series has also been a streaky one with the Claws taking the last five games. Like the Nordhagen Beach-Fort Hagen matchup, the hotter team seems to be the better team. Also, University Point had early-season injuries that found them dropping in the standings with an 8-14 May. Since then, they have been much better and showed that by going 18-5 in August, as well as winning two tough series. In this case, we expect University Point to continue that success in a tight race, beating the Rockets in 7 games.

2302 CBO Playoffs - Association Championships

Ugh! I hit the wrong button and simmed further ahead than I wanted to. That means that the Sole Survivor Series preview will be a little different. But first, I do have the Association Championships simmed with results...

#1 Nordhagen Beach vs #2 Fort Hagen

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Party Boys manager Matt Ballhawk Getman said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium.

Fort Hagen used the clutch hitting of David Driftwood to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Silver Shroud ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Driftwood.

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Hubris Comics Park.

Game 3: NB 4 at FtH 7

Bixton Moore dealt the Party Boys a blow in the bottom of the first. Batting with the bases loaded and Fort Hagen leading 1-0, Moore, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a 0-2 changeup for a 2-run double.

"We'll savor this win," Miller told the Fort Hagen News, "then get ready for the next game."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hubris Comics Park.

Nordhagen Beach Takes Association Championship in Deciding Game

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium as the Association Championship stretched to the final game.

It was the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys feeling the thrill of victory, with a 3-2 win over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Sole Survivor Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Fort Hagen manager Belch Melcher. "Congratulations to Nordhagen Beach, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was right fielder Jonathan Angelou, who was named MVP. He hit .400 with a .516 on-base percentage. He had 4 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 6 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the University Point Deathclaws - Jamaica Plain Red Rockets series. The Sole Survivor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship finishes.

Was nice to see both series go all seven. I'm thinking the trend breaks and the Party Boys take it in 5.

What said I say, "They can't keep getting away with it". Though I suppose as a collective we are not annoyed at the Boys in the Series haha.

The Party Boys were not supposed to be at their strongest, and yet here they are. Both Association Championships looked to be intense. I wish I had more time to savor it all!

Maybe post-season pitching matters the most, though the scores were not fully indicative of that. Still, the Boys' Beach and Nut held down the Fort Hagen offense in games 6 and 7.

2302 CBO Playoffs - Sole Survivor Series

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (#1, 73-35) vs University Point Deathclaws (#4, 64-44)

How Did They Get Here?

The Party Boys upended their biggest rivals, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 4 games to 3, in the North Charles Association Championship. Nordhagen Beach won all three games that Beachboy Nut (2-0 in the series) started, Games 1, 4, and 7. RF Jonathan Angelou won Series MVP honors, going 10 for 25 with four home runs and six RBI.

University Point upset Minutemen League champions and second-seeded Jamaica Point, 4 games to 3. RF Tomas Jones stole the series show, going 11 for 31 with two homers and 10 RBI. The Deathclaws had one blowout win in the South Charles Association series, winning Game 2, 18-2. The Claws put up another nine runs in Game 7 to knock off both the first and second seeds in the SCA.

CBO Postseason History

NB - 5th Playoff appearance; Third SSS appearance; Won CBO in 2301
UP - 3rd Playoff appearance; First SSS appearance

NB vs UP - 1st Matchup

Nordhagen Beach Team Page

Nordhagen Beach Players to Watch

SP Beachboy Nut - 17-6, 2.20 - An absolute force on the mound, Nut has been the most dominant pitcher the CBO has seen thus far. Winner of the 2300 and 2301 Vim! Pitcher Awards with Roxbury and Nordhagen Beach, respectively, Nut looks to be on his way to his third-straight award in 2302. In two postseason series in 2302, Nut is 3-0 in five starts, with the Party Boys winning all five games he started.

DYK: Nut was the 1st overall pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft by the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers (now the Roxbury Rad Sox). Due to not filing paperwork on time, he missed the chance to be part of the 2296 Inaugural Draft. Nut was traded to the Party Boys for two up-and-coming players in 3B Donn Mattingley and SS Purple Gupta.

RF Jonathan Angelou - .319/31/70 - With LF Michael Fogcrawler out for the season, Angelou has become the team leader on offense. Names the NCA Championship MVP, Angelou is the reason Tomas Jones is now with University Point. Angelou is now a three-time All Star and the former Red Rocket Rookie of the Year. He is in discussion as the 2302 Nuka-Hitter Award winner.

DYK: Angelou was drafted in the 11th round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft by the Boys but took some time to bloom. He first for his shot in the 2299 season after a solid two seasons in the BMU. When RF Jones went down with an injury, Angelou took over the spot and never let it go, leading to Jones being traded to University Point in the 2299 season.

SP Chet Arthur - 17-9, 2.87 - While Nut overshadows Arthur, he would be the staff ace of most of the CBO teams. Since 2298, Arthur has transformed from an original relief pitcher to a dominant starter. He has won at least 11 games in the past five seasons, including leading or tying for the NCA lead in wins in 2300 (15) and 2302 (17). His ERA has not been above 3.00 since 2299 when he went 13-4 with a 3.76 ERA.

DYK: Arthur was drafted in the CBO Inaugural Draft in the 18th round by Fort Hagen. He was traded later in 2296 for OF Noel Petrified who has been a career minor leaguer in the BMU. Petrified is now with the Easy Town organization.

University Point Team Page

University Point Players to Watch

RF Tomas Jones - .328/28/93 - The star of the high-powered University Point offense, Jones had just his second season of injury problems, though he still started 97 games. The three-time All Star and current 2302 SCA Championship MVP, Jones is looking to outduel the man who replaced him in Nordhagen Beach, Jonathan Angelou.

DYK: Jones was drafted in the 1st round by Nordhagen Beach in the 2296 Inaugural Draft. He was later traded to the Claws for four players and a 2nd-round draft pick in 2299. Two of those players, RP Tom Mannequin and RP David Kidd, are relievers in the Nordhagen Beach bullpen. The other two players, CF Ralph DeYoe and RP Chris Essary, are now regulars in Warwick and Egret, respectively. Essary was traded to Easy Town originally, where the Boys landed another bullpen member, Marc Woodsman.

1B Barker Cocoa - .312/28/75 - The middle of an impressive 1-2-3 punch along with LF Kory Richardson and Jones, Cocoa is also a three-time All Star. He is considered to be the CBO's most patient hitter, allowing him to lead the league in walks for the second-straight season and also lead in 2302 in OBP (.514) and OPS (1.132). He is considered to be the Claws' front-runner for the SCA Nuka-Hitter Award.

DYK: Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2297 Rookie Draft, Cocoa has spent his entire career with the Deathclaws. Despite his later pick, he earned a spot as an up-and-comer in 2298 when he was named the #2 prospect following an impressive spring. That also earned him a late-season call-up from Boston Common of the BMU. He then never looked down, becoming University Point's starting 1B job early in the 2299 season.

SP Phlip Wallace - 11-8, 3.43 - The staff ace, Wallace was not as successful as the past two seasons but still won 11+ games for the fifth-straight season. The two-time All Star is not considered to be as intimidating as Nordhagen Beach's Nut and Arthur, but he can lull offenses to sleep and allow his team to outscore the opponent.

DYK: Wallace was originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft by the Egret Scrappers (now Ninjas). He was traded for prospect Rick Pickle, the Claw's 1st-round pick in the 2299 Rookie Draft, following the 2300 season.

Prediction

While we went on record doubting the Party Boys because of a couple key injuries, the team looks to be a machine ready to continue winning. University Point has been impressive in the postseason. After failing to win the SCA in 2301 as the #1 seed, they got over the hump as the #4 seed this season. Early-season injuries prevented them from being the #1 seed this season, but they have played like a #1, making this an intriguing matchup.

In the end, both teams have solid bats, but the Nordhagen Beach pitching staff is superior. While we will not doubt that the Claws will come out scratching, the Boys should take this one in six, 4 games to 2.

Hmmm, a good start for the Boys, and that first game especially so. That said, in my casual game I just did the 2043 World Series today and the Rangers took a two game lead but then the Giants won 4-2 in the end so I'm not counting the Deathclaws out.
