Is it worth upgrading this late in the game cycle

Hello,

I've played OOTP 21 in the past, and recently, I got the urge to play it again. I've been doing a save with the Mariners (where, ironically, Kelenic becomes the superstar and Julio never develops) and I've been wondering if it was worth upgrading to OOTP 23 even though this game has about two months of life cycle left.

Would like to have opinions on what is better on worse on that version compared to OOTP 21. I've noticed some nonsensical trades in my current OOTP 21 save but otherwise it's been a fine experience.

23 is great minus the whole Japan league issue. the multi trade option is my favorite feature. In 22 and now 23 you have better jerseys with pants. It was buggy in the beginning but thats been fine for the last 4-5 patches. NLB players import better, usually. You do lose the Indians if you play historical but there are workarounds for that.

Is it still on sale?

You can probably get 2 months of play until 24 comes out.

Under the hood the game engine was rewritten and plays a better game of baseball. Lot's of quality of life additions that make v23 the best version so far.
No way to list them all but some examples would be...
New stats added and tracked.
More team stats.
More options for views and filters.
Graphics get updated every version and the 3d is much better in v23.
AI is always being worked on version to version, as it should be.

Trades in any sports game are always going to come down to the "eye of the beholder". Having said that I buy every new version of OOTP, the trade AI is worked on and improved every year. I play out all of my games and after every game day I review the happenings of that day around the league including reading the "full transaction report" along with reviewing any trades made. The trades in my league make sense IMHO. You might look at them and say "but what about this one?". We're all different.

It's 20 dollars/euros on steam right now. I remember buying 21 for 5 euros during new year's eve on December 31st 2020 because I was so bored, but 20 seems like a decent price to me

Well I manage to run 21 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 without too many issues so 23 should be fine as well

How late in the cycle is it? Not all that late since 24 won't be right until July or August.

THIS must be a great idea. My consistent detractors didn't show up en masse to argue against it. They didn't show up HERE either.

For some balance in the thread.

I've imported my on going game into every version from v4 to v23 at release and have only had ONE issue in all of that time. That came with the total rewrite of OOTP in 2006. That version, while being rough around the edges, as one might expect with all new code, was playable after the first patch. Every version since has been smooth sailing in my game with each release version.

Setup, style of play, and what one accepts or doesn't accept is different in each of us and determines what makes the game "right". If you are a new user it's easy enough to go back to older version forums and read the release threads there to get a full picture of how OOTP came out of the gate.

Actually I would say that for me this game is quite new, except that it goes very bad, that's why I decided to look elsewhere where I could play and I found this perfect source https://gamblizard.ca/best-canadian-online-casinos/casino-payment-options/pay-by-phone-casinos/ I was amazed that I can pay by phone, this apparently is very convenient. If you have any questions you can ask me, I am available in private.

The main difference between OOTP 21 and OOTP 23 would be the updated player ratings and stats, improved AI and simulation engine, and new features and improvements added to the game. Whether or not it's worth upgrading depends on how much you value these changes and improvements, and how much you're willing to spend on a new game with only a few months left in its life cycle. If you're enjoying your current OOTP 21 save, you may want to hold off on upgrading until the release of OOTP 24.
