Like his American League counterpart, Chicago Orphans pitcher Joe Corbett took home National League Pitcher of the Month and Rookie of the Month honors. Corbett went 6-1 with 2.32 ERA, with a 1.05 WHIP and a 122 ERA+.

National League Batting Champ
Cincinnati Reds 2nd baseman Nap Lajoie smashed his way to the National League Batting Title. Lajoie dominated opposing pitching throughout the season and his .342 batting average (202 for 591), 174+ OPS, and 8.4 WAR show just how impactful he was.

Games 135-137: Boston Americans vs. Philadelphia Athletics
.
***Got a little excited about the season wrapping up and did not keep the order of the posts correct*** Game 135: The game that ended Boston's pennant chances. The Americans (79-56) fell behind early and simply could not string the hits together to put pressure on the Athletics (55-80); losing by a score of 6 to 1. Philadelphia pitcher Mal Eason (16-10) picked up the win, allowing 1 earned run on 9 hits and 2 walks for a Game Score of 67. The timely hitting of Honus Wagner (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI), George Magoon (3 for 4, Double), and George Davis (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 Walk) knocked Boston pitcher Jesse Tannehill (20-13) out of the game due to allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings of play; Game Score of 48. Al Orth pitched the final inning, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 hits. John Farrell (2 for 5, Double) and Win Mercer (2 for 5, 1 Run) helped Boston's limited offense. Player of the Game: Mal Eason Game 136: A common theme throughout the season for the Americans has been untimely errors directly affecting the outcome of the game. Here was another example, as Philadelphia (56-80) topped Boston (79-57) by a score of 6 to 5 due to an error committed by 2nd baseman John Farrell. Doc McJames (12-12) picked up the win (5 Runs, 3 Earned, Game Score of 59), while Cy Young (20-13) was tagged with the loss (6 Runs, 1 Earned, Gamed Score of 44). Tom McCreery (3 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 3 RBIs), Heinie Reitz (3 for 4, 1 Run, 1 Walk), and George Davis (3 for 5) led the team to victory. Bill Lange (2 for 5, Triple, 1 Run, 2 RBI) and Ossee Schreckengost (1 for 2, 2 Runs, 1 Walk) hit well in the loss. Player of the Game: Doc McJames Game 137: The 4 to 3 win completed Philadelphia's (57-80) sweep of Boston (79-58). Sam Leever (15-17) picked up the win for the Athletics (3 Runs, 2 Earned, Game Score of 67), and Fred Klobedanz (16-17) was saddled with the loss - his 5th straight (4 Runs, 3 Earned, 5 Walks; Game Score of 55). Disappointing game and very disappointing series. Player of the Game: Sam Leever

Jack Chesbro (16-15) lasted only 5 innings, giving up 8 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks; Game Score of 34. Arlie Pond pitched the final 3 innings, allowing 1 earned run.
Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #25 / Career: #25) Game 139: It took extra innings, but Boston (81-58) prevailed over the Senators (75-64) by a score of 3 to 2. While Jesse Tannehill did not factor into the decision, he pitched well (2 earned runs on 10 hits and 1 walk; Game Score of 58), and Al Orth (1-1) picked up his 1st win of the year for his 2 innings of relief work. Casey Patten (17-15) took the loss after allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits and 1 walk; Game Score of 67. Bill Lange (2 for 3, Double, 1 RBI) had a nice day at the plate in the win, while Danny Green (4 for 4, 2 Runs, 1 Walk) smacked the ball all day long. Player of the Game: Casey Patten Game 140: The final game of the year and Cy Young was given the start. In leading Boston (82-58) to a 3 to 2 victory over the Senators (75-65), Young (21-13) allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) on 11 hits and 3 walks; Game Score of 60. Cy Seymour (13-11) took the loss after giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits and 5 walks; Game Score of 59. Player of the Game: Cy Young (Season: #17 / Career: #17)

1901 World Series
Playoff baseball is here, as the Detroit Tigers (89-51) square off against the Boston Beaneaters (85-55) in the inaugural World Series matchup. Both teams have an overabundance of talent, and this should prove to be an exciting series to watch.

World Series Game 1
Game 1: No surprise that this was a close game in which both teams played very well. The Tigers (1-0) were able to overcome an early deficit and a 43 minute rain-delay in the 7th inning to muster enough runs to top the Beaneaters (0-1) by a score of 4 to 3.
Detroit pitcher Doc White went the distance, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 5 to finish with a Game Score of 65. Boston pitcher Vic Willis (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits and 4 walks; Game Score of 59. Mike Donlin had a tremendous day at the plate in the win (2 for 4, Home Run, 1 Run, 2 RBIs), while Jimmy Williams' effort (3 for 4, Double, 2 Triples, 2 Runs, 1 RBI) was for naught. Player of the Game: Doc White

World Series Game 2
Game 2: A nice bounce-back game for the Beaneaters (1-1), as they jumped out to an early lead and never locked back; cruising to a 7 to 0 win over the Tigers (1-1).
Boston pitcher Pete Dowling (1-0) held the opposition to just 5 harmless hits (all singles) while striking out 5 on a total of 104 pitches for a Game Score of 82. Togie Pittinger (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up 7 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits and 3 walks, striking out 8 on 181 total pitches; Game Score of 44. The Beaneaters got nice offensive production from Sam Dungan (2 for 5, Triple, 1 Run, 1 RBI), Sammy Strang (2 for 4, 2 RBIs, 1 Walk), Jimmy Williams (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI), and Elmer Heidrick (2 for 5, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI). The Tigers lone bright spot was Hobe Ferris (2 for 3). Player of the Game: Pete Dowling

World Series Game 3
Game 3: After the drubbing they took in the last game, the atmosphere in the Tigers clubhouse was surprisingly upbeat. That energy translated onto the field, as Detroit (2-1) topped Boston (1-2) by a score of 1-0.
Detroit pitcher John Malarkey (1-0) picked up the win by scattering 8 hits and 2 walks to finish with a Game Score of 74. Boston pitcher Ed Siever (0-1), a trade deadline acquisition, pitched well but was done in by fielding errors. "Turkey Mike" Donlin went 2 for 4 in the win, while Germany Smith had a 2 for 2 day in the loss. Player of the Game: John Malarkey

World Series Game 4
Game 4: Detroit (3-1) jumped out to an early lead only to fend off a late-inning rally by Boston (1-3) to pick up the win by a score of 4 to 3.
Despite what the game-generated write-up states, Detroit pitcher Doc White (2-0) did not toss a shutout, but he did do just enough to pick up the win; allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 11 hits for a Game Score of 60. Vic Willis (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits for a Game Score of 63. On the batting front, Tigers 3rd baseman Tom O'Brien (2 for 4, Double, Triple, 2 Runs) and shortstop Freddy Parent (2 for 4, Double, 1 Run, 1 RBI) were locked in. For the Beaneaters, Jack Warner (2 for 4, 1 Run, 1 RBI), Jimmy Williams (2 for 4, 1 RBI), and Sammy Strang (3 for 5) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Doc White

World Series Game 5
Game 5: While the Beaneaters put the ball in play with 10 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batsman they could not muster a single run against the Tigers. In the end, Detroit (4-1) topped Boston (1-4) by a score of 4 to 0 to win the World Series.
Togie Pittinger (1-1) picked up the win by not allowing any runs, despite giving up 10 hits and 2 walks for a Game Score of 69. Pete Dowling (1-1) took the loss when giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits and 1 walk; Game Score of 58. Tom O'Brien had a tremendous day at the plate with a 3 for 3 day (Double, 1 Run) for the Tigers. In the loss, Jack Warner (3 for 4, Double) and Bill Hallman (2 for 3) played well. Player of the Game: Togie Pittinger

1901 Offseason
The World Series is over and the time for change is upon us. With the start of the offseason, I will provide recaps of the season for the Boston Americans and MLB as a whole. I have changed the overall league structure by adding a Triple A league so that players can play and accumulate stats, rather than sit on the reserve roster. It was a fun first season and I look forward to the 1902 season.

Achievements
Well finishing in 3rd place was not as good as I had hoped, but it still earned praise from my Owner and unlocked a couple of achievements.
First achievement is my Season Score of 714 (shoutout to Babe Ruth) Second achievement is satisfying Owner Goals of getting a winning record (82-58) and upgrading a position (Win Mercer).

Owner Message - Review of Season Goals
End of year feedback from the team owner. Overall, seems happy with how I did and I don't appear to be on the brink of getting fired. Going into the next season, the owner has five (5) goals that he wants to me accomplish over the next few years. I think the most difficult may be increasing attendance by 43%, though I am also torn about upgrading at 1st base.

1902 Team Budget
My benevolent owner sent me the "money" email to inform just how much he was willing to sink into next year's team. $202,000 (an increase of $2,000 over last year) is not bad and don't anticipate it causing any issues.

Team Index - 1901 Season
The 1901 Season turned reasonably well for the Boston Americans. While a 3rd place finish was not exactly what I had hoped for, the team still finished well above the .500 mark (24 games over), had solid attendance, and finished with a nice cash balance.

Team Home Page - 1901 Season
Boston made a serious run at the top spot, but missed opportunities and a Detroit Tigers team that simply refused to be caught kept the Americans back. Very happy with the pitching staff, as Hahn (10.8 WAR) and Tannehill (6.7 WAR) lived up to the high expectations, Young (6.1 WAR) was a pleasant surprise, and Klobedanz (1.2 WAR) ate up innings. Clarke (6.2 WAR) and Farrell (6.5 WAR) were solid hitters throughout the year, I think Hoffmeister and Donahue have the potential to be something special, and not sure what to make of Chance (-2.49 WPA).

Meet the Team - 1901 End of Season
The end of season "Meet the Team" view. I've got good fan loyalty and interest (which is always a good thing to have), a team staff with a poor reputation, and fairly decent player position rankings.

Team Stats - 1901 Season
Overall, a nice season from the Team Stats perspective. The Americans played 4 games under their expected record though it would not have been enough to catch the Tigers. Very solid at home (20 games over), so-so road record (4 games over), and struggled in close games (7 games under). Outstanding hitting though with very little power, and a dominate pitching staff.

Player Batting Stats - 1901 Season
Player batting stats from the 1901 season. John Farrell (6.5 WAR) and Fred Clarke (6.2 WAR and 4.29 WPA) had the best overall batting contributions on the year for the team. I was also happy with what Jesse Hoffmeister did (3.2 WAR) in about 2/3 of the season. Need to get more out of Frank Chance (1.1 WAR and -2.49 WPA) by the trading deadline next season.
