steps to keep historic Cleveland team as the Indians

Make sure to follow all steps, including making backups. And try this out first as a test, not as the game in which you will immerse yourself. And then please report back re anything significant.

1. Make a backup of your teams.csv file (found in your ...data/stats folder)... just so you have it. You won't likely need it.
2. Replace your teams.csv file (in your ...data/stats folder) with a custom one that changes all references of Guardians to Indians (attached; open the zip file, rename/copy the csv file to Teams.csv).
3. Make a backup of the modified teams.csv file because when OOTP updates, I believe it will overwrite this file. (Or simply save the attached file - Teams - cleveland correct.csv and copy & rename to satisfy step 2.)
4. At initial creation of your game, manually change the nickname from Guardians to Indians. (This should be the only time you will need to manually change the nickname.)
5. Be aware of when OOTP updates, and when it does, repeat step 2.

Note: It's a free country, but please do not reply with any comments & opinions on whether the name should've been changed by the Cleveland franchise, Larry Dolan, MLB, etc.. That - which has been exhausted elsewhere - is not the subject of this thread. Rather, it's merely to suggest a workaround for those who like to do historical games and would like to see the Cleveland franchise with it's historically-accurate nickname. (Otherwise this thread will get closed and we won't be able to comment on the actual steps & file, and how it's working out )

Not sure. I'd have to compare. But it looks his includes changes to the minor league files and maybe other stuff. So it's more-comprehensive. If you use his and it's been working fine, stick with that

I took the time to search the forums and find the post stating that this historical sham was forced on OOTP by the Cleveland franchise. Yet another reason why companies like OOTP shouldn't legally be required to obtain licenses for games like this. IP law will forever be ridiculous and terrible.

I know this is a bit of a necro, BUUUUUUT, I am Native American and I loved the name. But, wanted to ask, if I want to do this on my own in my own file, all I have to do is open it in excel and hit ctrl+H and find and replace all instances of Cleveland Guardians with the name that offends everyone else?

Also, so hated having to turn off "expand league" because every year it changed the name bad to the hideous guardians, so if this is a fix, this is great!

Yes. Assuming you know what you're doing with Excel & csv files, it should work fine. I'd definitely suggest testing it out - using your modded file to run your game ahead several years - before immersing yourself in your game.
