Lowering Stamina raises Overall.

Jacob deGrom's Stamina was changed to 50 and 49. The overalls are now 63 and 79 respectively.

Why does this happen? it is odd that a 1 point difference in stamina changes the over all by 16 points. It is also strange that the lower the stamina, the higher the overall.

What I need is an overall as a starter, not a bullpen.

I'm seeing stamina as 35 in your screen. Am I missing something?

In the two screens one is rated as a RP/emergency SP, the other as a SP. IE 63 as a SP and 79 as a "bullpen and emergency starter". The 16 point difference is because as a RP he can go all out for one or two innings and doesn't have to pace himself to go 5 or more innings. Yes, in both cases you have his position set to starter, but when you hit the projected role to bullpen/emergency starter the scout has to take into account what the new value will be out of the pen. You said "What I need is an overall as a starter, not a bullpen.". You already have that in the first screen where his projected role is set to starter.

I only use the overall(s) as something to catch my eye, it's what I see in the player's skillset that matters most. In this case that 35 stamina is quite low and about as low as you can go and still be an effective starter. I'm more surprised his rating as a SP is 63, but then he does have highly rated skills.

I assume you're talking about editor ratings?

My guess is that the 79 rating you see is actually a reliever rating since the drop in stamina makes his projected role a reliever. Yes, 1 point can do that as this is a computer program, which needs to be programmed. There has to be some sort of threshold programmed in.

If my guess is correct, you probably have the "Overall based on all players" option turned on. If that's the case, the overall goes up, because the game thinks he should be a reliever.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had missed the new default settings for 24.

But the essential problem remains the same. The overalls have only gone up by 1 each.

Does the OOTP game simulation system impose a significant difference between a starting pitcher with 50 stamina and one with 49 stamina?
If not, then the overalls for both should be close to each other.

No, I think the 50 threshold is exactly the point at which the game considers a player a relief pitcher and grades them accordingly.

As others have mentioned the overalls are based on all players.

You should also be aware that generally 50 rating in stamina is the around the bar for having enough to be a starter vs a reliver. So a change of 1 in this range has more of an effect

With a 49 rating in stamina they are no better then 63 overall vs every other Starting pitcher and are better off used as a Reliver or Emergency. By jacking him back up to 50 he's now seen as compared to players rated 73 overall.

If you jack the stamina by 5 points for both players you wouldn't see such a difference in ratings

Lol! Sorry, I was floored by the velocity of 158-161, until I saw that it was in km/h, rather than miles per hour!
