I could be wrong but feels like it's been a bit since relocation. This should be an interesting one. I kind of like the ring of the Spectacle Island Reapers, but some solid nickname choices overall

I am going to make it a random draw through multiple dice rolls, thus the six finalists for the nickname. I have a preference, but I promise to go with the winner since it is the settlers of Spectacle Island's decision. ![]() One push is to see if I can make a logo/uniform worth a damn for some of these. Some of my thoughts: Need to find a clean Drumlin Diner logo or something similar (Vault Boy eating?). Mirelurks would just need a slight change to their logo, away jersey, and cap. I don't know if I still have the templates for the cap and logo, so I might have to just remake them. I probably made them originally on Photoshop, but Adobe took my Photoshop away from me with their monthly license rule. If Mirelurks is not chosen, then the Warwick Mirelurks will just become a BMU team. Patriots + Reapers = Steal and customize the current Patriots or Reapers teams. Specters = I had a logo I loved from another short-lived dynasty. I would use that one. Radstorms = I have no idea right now, but I could probably greenify a hurricane or cloud+lightning logo.

2303 Offseason - News and Notes
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 November 2303 Spectacle Island Team Logos - The First Batch Three of the Spectacle Island team's logos are based on current logos in the Commonwealth baseball leagues. Three options are to maintain the Mirelurks team name, take on the logo and jerseys of the GBRL's South Boston Patriots (affiliated with Concord), or assume the BYDL's Spectacle Island Reapers team name and choose another name, probably from the other finalists: Diners, Specters, or Radstorm. November Actions Draft and Awards The CBO Rookie Draft and the naming of the CBO awards will take place in November. The first awards will begin today with the naming of the Corvega Top Defender Awards from each association. We will post winners on a weekly basis. Also, the 2303 Rookie Draft will take place on Thursday, November 5. The team that will be newly in Spectacle Island (officially on 1 January) gets the first overall pick, followed by Egret, The Slog, Quincy, and Oberland in the Top 5. The draft is expected to be a weaker crop this season since the BYDL is not sending any players to the draft. Last season, they changed a rule that forces their players to play four years before becoming draft eligible. The 2304 draft is expected to be much stronger. That does not mean there is no talent. This season involves an influx of talent. Commissioner Nate Howard has talked about standardizing the independent teams and potentially either expanding the number of teams in the BYDL or beginning a fourth youth league affiliated with the CBO. Among current youth from CBO-affiliated teams, C McCoy McIntyre of the PJPL's Pawtucket Paw Sox, RF Mark Goodday of the CCYL's Nauset Beach Lurk Hunters, 1B Sean Pen of the PJPL's Brown U Bubblers, SP Caesar Casino of the CCYL's Truro Hatchlings, CF Stormy Robinson of the CCYL's Provincetown Land Pirates, 1B Mike Truk of the CCYL's Chatham Lighthouse, and LF Steven Themet of the PJPL's Woodlawn Red Clay are expected to be selected among the top players. Roxbury Rad Sox: CF Wick Johnson, age 18 - Independent League Player Round 5, Pick 24 - County Crossing Bloodbugs: 3B Prince Campbell, age 16 Analysis Top 5 Picks Round 1, Pick 1 - Spectacle Island: SP Jalep Temper, age 18 - Independent League Player Career: Pitched for an elite travel team that supposedly traveled as far as the Capital Wasteland to play. Only has one year of recorded stats for CBO purposes (this is the same for all independent players). Went 7-0 with a 0.34 ERA. Pitched in 18 games, started 10. Recorded 181 strikeouts in 79.1 innings. Personality: A baseballer. Clubhouse leader with keen sense of the game. Smart but independent. Scouts: Expected to have two elite pitches: circle change and curveball. Also expected to have a really good cutter. Strikeout machine because batters have a hard time predicting where his pitches will go. Not prone to give up the big hit so big innings against him are tough. Expected to be a future ace. Great get for Spectacle Island. Round 1, Pick 2 - Egret Ninjas: SP Hry Caje, age 17 – CCYL Wellfleet Settlement Career: Three-year starter for the Wellfleet Settlement team. Improved his pitching every year, including finishing with a 1.78 ERA his final season. In 31 career starts, finished with a 16-10 record and a 2.63 ERA. Personality: Has a good feel for the game of baseball. He has three of the bonuses for teams: high intelligence, work ethic, and loyalty. Not greedy. Scouts: Benefits from the fastball, which can be elite, but needs to better develop his other three pitches. Considered a project but has talent if he gets the right coaching. Has good command of pitches but best command is placing the fastball. Not guaranteed to make the CBO, which makes him a surprise pick this high. Boom or bust type. Round 1, Pick 3 - The Slog Ghouls: LF Elijah Booke, age 18 - Independent League Player Career: Does not know his hometown but lists it as Westfield, MA, since it's the first place he remembers. Father was a "traveler." Spent his draft season with the Concord-Lexington Minuteboys. In 26 games, batted .487 with 14 HR and 45 RBI. Stole seven bases. Personality: A bit quiet but does like socializing with teammates. Scouts: Tall and lanky with the ability fill out and become powerful. Swings hard and has good hand-eye coordination. Drafted to become a power hitter so that will be his focus in the minors. Round 1, Pick 4 - Quincy Gunners: C Slush Carfixer, age 18 - Independent League Player Career: Came to the Boston area in the season. Claimed to have played ball with competitive teams near Bradberton and traveling teams that brought him this way. Joined the Club X traveling team after the season had started. Once on the team, he never sat. In 22 games, batted .467 with 11 HR and 37 RBI. Doubled 13 times. Personality: He talks the talk and walks the walk. Says he can play baseball and he can. Club X coaches raved about his ability to adapt to their coaching and work hard on improving hitting and throwing mechanics. Scouts: Big league arm will make it tough to steal against him. Still needs to work on blocking pitches in the dirt. Bat is sufficient for his level. Shows the ability to improve his swing and could become a good hitting catcher in the CBO. May never be a home run hitter but has good launch angles for driving 10-15 out of the park each year. Round 1, Pick 5 - Oberland T-51s: LF Zaire Inquisitor, age 18 – CCYL Nauset Beach Career: Only played two years with the Nauset Beach team but showed a lot of potential hitting and pitching. Expected to be exclusively a hitter in the CBO and minors. In two seasons, batted .245 with 16 HR and 38 RBI. Personality: Just goes and works. Will try anything that is asked of him. Not going to be the person to take charge. Scouts: Another boom or bust player. He has a lot of potential but could have benefited from more development as a ball player. Shows good bat speed but swings and misses a lot. Watches good pitches too often. Will need to make much more contact at next level. Can hit for power but will not be mistaken for a power hitter. Can be a decent defender in LF but may not fit in the rest of the OF. Has CBO potential but should not expect to be a star. Oberland will have to settle for an average starter as his ceiling. Other Players of Interest Round 3, Pick 1 - Spectacle Island: C McCoy McIntyre, age 16 Career: Great defensive catcher for the PJPL's Pawtucket team. Not so great at hitting, finishing his three years with a .186 batting average. Personality: Not the brightest guy, but he tries hard to keep up with the mental game. Works hard and gets it after repetitions. Scouts: Potential, potential, potential. Already good at watching bad pitches and swinging at good pitches but needs to up his contact game. Tends to pop up a lot so needs to work on changing swing trajectory. If he gets his bat working, his strong defensive skills will make him the top C in the CBO. He has that much potential. Even as a good defensive catcher, could improve his arm strength. Round 1, Pick 16 - Concord Radstags: 1B Mike Truk, age 16 – CCYL Chatham Career: Probably came out too early. Only played with Chatham for two full years but was on team in 2301 with four pinch hit appearances. 1B and P for his team. Finished with a .299 average, 15 HR, and 56 RBI. 4-3 with a 5.37 ERA in 9 starts with 1 relief appearance. Concord drafted him to try to develop him like Easy Town's Lannie Tykeson. Personality: Likes to work out. Scouts: Can hit for average and for power. Very strong but can also use some more muscle mass to fit his 6'9" frame. Good enough defensively to consider playing the other corner spot. Not expected to be a pitcher but Concord wanted his pitching scouted. At best a two-pitch reliever with a decent slider and forkball. His fastballs are fast but will get lit up since they tend to be right down the middle. Round 1, Pick 14 - Fort Hagen Silver Shroud: SP Edwin Flowerspawn, age 17 - Independent League Player Career: Claims to be from Southbridge, MA, "near a vault," but not sure what vault that may be. None are on record. Played ball around Bradberton before moving east before the 2303 season to play with the traveling elite teams. Started 12 games with 10 of those being in "field matches" where the park had no fence. Still managed a 9-0 record with a 0.58 ERA. In 93.2 IP, he struck out 162 and only walked 11. Personality: Relies on his natural abilities too much. Doesn't seem to remember much about the team he played with. Seems a bit self-centered. Scouts: Was impressive in games he was viewed but it was more of talent over the opponents than anything else. Uses four pitches but none stand out as elite. Needs a lot of coaching up to reach his potential. What is that potential? Hard to say. May make a 3rd or 4th starter in a rotation but that is probably 5+ years away before possible. Best bet is a SP/RP role where he can start in a pinch. Not expected to become an ace. Round 1, Pick 21 - Nordhagen Beach Party Boys: CF Yellowstone Dud, age 18 - Independent League Player Career: Spent some time with the Children of Atom when he was younger, part of where he picked up the name Yellowstone. Played with the traveling elite teams and batted leadoff for the A-squad that played against better teams. Hit .495 with 2 HR, 28 RBI, 43 R, and 34 SB. Personality: Lives and breathes baseball. Always running. Can't wait to start a game and is sad to see it end. Scouts: Speed demon who will steal 2nd and 3rd with ease. Will get a lot of infield hits in his career. Future leadoff hitter but needs to work on his contact. Once he makes contact, anything can and will happen. Not the best glove but he can get to a ball anywhere in CF. Needs a lot of practice on hanging onto balls once they make contact with his glove.

Staffers congratulated the 57-year-old baseball guru as he approached the podium. "This city has allowed me to craft a winning ball club," said Guai. "When you take on a new job, there's always some adjustment period, but everyone here has been cooperative. From the bat boys on up. Here's to many more successful seasons for the County Crossing Bloodbugs!" Guai led County Crossing to a 86-34 record this year and a first place finish in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League. SCA Best Manager, Kupp of the Roxbury Rad Sox: An outstanding season by the Rad Sox garnered their manager Coffee Kupp the South Charles Association Manager of the Year award for 2303. He led Roxbury to a 83-37 record this year and a first place finish in the South Charles Association Railroad League. Even so, Kupp seemed less than thrilled. "I don't give a darn about the award," he growled to reporters, "I just want this team to win championships!" He captured the award on the strength of his 0.15 ERA over 58.1 innings. He also had 25 saves in 51 relief appearances, 62 strikeouts and only 20 walks. But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Quincy Gunners reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 2303 South Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award. "I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Fall River, Massachusetts native said. For the season, Prater had 19 saves in 44 relief appearances, which totaled 47.2. He fanned 42 betters, while walking 19 and put up a record of 2-2 to go with his 1.70 ERA. The draft is one of my favorite times because of all the cool names. Mint Julep Takedown sounds like a wrestling move or an fancy dessert! So many other good ones, but it's either that or Ultimate Warrior Sanescoop for the best one. Too bad they're both late rounders

Cuba Badding... reminds me how at work looking at patient records I hear the word "newborn" so much I'm like "that implies there's such a thing as an oldborn, but the only one I know of is Benjamin Button".

Settlements Today
Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 9 November 2303 Everett Everlasting I embarked on a journey to Everett, a town that had become home to the Boston Minor Union's Everett Mutant Hounds team, to capture the spirit of this resilient community and delve into its captivating story. Everett in the early 1900s For its history, Everett has roots in serving the Boston area. According to notes taken from the Boston Public Library from an article written around 2050, “Everett, a Massachusetts town with deep historical roots, traces its origins to its separation from Malden in 1870. Named after Edward Everett, a prominent figure in U.S. politics and academia, the community underwent significant developments over the years. In 1892, Everett gained city status, and landfill projects expanded its shoreline. The connection of the mainland to White Island facilitated the construction of the Grand Junction Railroad bridge. In 1971, Everett became a pioneering hub for liquefied natural gas imports, and in 2014, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved the construction of the impressive Encore Boston Harbor casino resort. Today, Everett attracts residents seeking affordable homes near Boston while offering a blend of history, community, and progress that sets the stage for a promising future.” Everett around 2020 Upon entering Everett, it was clear that this town had undergone a remarkable transformation since the valiant efforts of Nate Howard and his companions liberated it from the clutches of a formidable army of super mutants. Once plagued by chaos and despair, the town had risen from the ashes, slowly but steadily building itself up to become a thriving settlement where hope and resilience prevailed. As I ventured through the streets of Everett, my senses were captivated by the enticing aromas wafting from the local shops and eateries. Hungry from my travels, I eagerly indulged in the town's culinary offerings. From hearty brahmin stew simmering in makeshift cauldrons to crispy mutant mole rat fritters served with a side of tangy tarberry sauce, the flavors of the wasteland mingled with a touch of innovation and resourcefulness. Each bite was a testament to the unwavering spirit of the people of Everett, who had learned to adapt and create delicious meals with limited resources. Everett 2303 - Bridge built across Mystic River near Taffington Boathouse Wandering through the town, I marveled at the signs of progress that dotted the landscape. Dilapidated buildings had been restored, repurposed, and given new life. Makeshift gardens sprouted with hardy crops, a testament to Everett's commitment to self-sustainability and survival in an unforgiving world. The people worked tirelessly to forge a community that thrived on unity, mutual support, and the shared love for their beloved Mutant Hounds baseball team. As I immersed myself in the vibrant atmosphere of Everett, it was impossible not to notice the scenic beauty that surrounded the town. The Malden and Mystic Rivers, once a murky reminder of the wasteland's devastation, now flowed with a renewed vigor, reflecting the resilience of the community it embraced. Lush patches of wild flora added bursts of color to the rugged landscape, a testament to nature's ability to reclaim and thrive in even the harshest of environments. Everett Town Square 1 Leaving Everett, my heart swelled with admiration for the town and its people. Through their unwavering determination, they had transformed a desolate wasteland into a thriving community, united by their love for baseball and their shared journey of survival. Everett stood as a testament to the human spirit's capacity to rebuild, to find joy amidst chaos, and to create a sense of belonging in the most unexpected places. Everett Town Square 2 As I departed, I carried with me the stories, the flavors, and the spirit of Everett, a place forever etched in my heart as a testament to the resilience and strength of humanity in a world forever changed. Changed again through the power of baseball.

2303 Offseason - News and Notes
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 11 November 2303 Spectacle Island Team Logos - The Second Batch Three of the potential names for the Spectacle Island franchise are brand new names to the area. With Erin Reische on the job, she has rendered three possibilities. According to Commissioner Nate Howard, if any or all three of these new concepts are not chosen by the former Warwick franchise, then they will be used by another team in the CBO-affiliated leagues. We will tell more of that story later in some exciting baseball news. But, first, let's break down the three newest possible franchise nicknames with the explanation of how they are "spectacularly Spectacle Island." Diners - With new owner of the franchise being Patrick Drumlin, the co-owner of the Drumlin Diner franchise along with his mother, Trudy, this team name makes sense. Being in the Minutemen League, one team, the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, already carry a franchise-owned team name. Patrick Drumlin has already begun building the first Drumlin Diner on Spectacle Island, which will be right outside the ballpark. The team would take on a yellow and black color scheme to stand out from the crowd. While the Diners name does not instill fear in other teams like the Mirelurks name does, it does instill a sense of companionship. Baseball and food go together, and the Diners would be non-stop food advertisements, a sure boon to an already successful restaurant franchise in the Commonwealth. Radstorm - A staple of weather delays in the CBO, the Radstorm would encapsulate the power of nature and how it decides when or if the Commonwealth would ever be rad-free. The Radstorm, shortened to the Storm like some other teams have their names shortened in stories, would become the most powerful of images in the CBO. Their colors would be radstorm green and radiation yellow, pulsating the wrath of the wastes. Specters - Playing off the name of Spectacle Island, the Specters would be an attribute to the mystery of the island and the supernatural elements the people of the wastelands still do not understand. Places that we know of, like the Dunwich Borers quarry and the Grandchester Mansion near Nuka-World. This team would create a unique color scheme of sea green and blood red that would play on the uniqueness of Spectacle Island and its history. In addition to changing the nickname, the baseball stadium will take on the Drumlin Diner name. Currently, the stadium in Outpost Zimonja of the GBRL, an affiliate of the Jamaica Plain team, is named Drumlin Diner Picnic Park. Since Jamaica Plain and the Spectacle Island team are competitors, the Red Rockets will seek a new sponsor and rename their park in the OZ.

The funny thing is that I had to work on that one awhile in Gimp for it not to be terrible. I'll live if that one is the chose name, but it certainly came about with a lot of frustration on my part. One day I will learn how to be efficient in Gimp.

Heh, I was going to say, I didn't want to "influence" the good people of the Island too much, but before you posted the last three I had a feeling that the Diners logo was going to be terrible after I said it was my preferred name... and while it's serviceable, that one is definitely my *least* favorite.

The Reapers are still finalists. I just broke up the stories on the potential names, mostly since there is a limit of 5 attachments on a single post.

CBO News and Notes
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 31 December 2303 Big Changes in the Works As the 2303 year winds down and the 2304 season approaches, there are big changes coming, though not all of those changes are ready to be announced. Here are things we know and things we speculate. We do know that the Spectacle Island voting has been tallied by Mayor Clack the Friendly Ghoul and his office. The announcement of the vote totals and new team name will be announced next week. As part of some of the dominoes falling, here are some other parts we know. The Warwick team (name depending on the selected Spectacle Island name) will be expected to move to the BMU where they will join the Downtown Boston League. Because of construction in Downtown Boston both in repairing buildings and clearing land for the Goodneighbor stadium, Haymarket Mall's rooftop field will be repurposed as part of the Downtown experience. Therefore, we expect there to be a swap of the Haymarket Mall team (affiliate of Starlight) for the Warwick team. The Commandos team name is now going to go into a pool for future use by another team. For now, we do not know if that will be 2304 or later. There is also a large gathering planned for the Boston Youth Development League in the Great Green Jewel in early January. While it has not been explicitly stated, there is speculation that the CBO will collect a few more of the independent teams to add to the BYDL. Currently, the BYDL carries 24 teams like the CBO and its minor leagues do, but there has been an uptick in players not developed by the CBO, thus a lack of scouting overall. Commissioner Nate Howard has expressed trying to balance that dearth of locally-developed talent, part of the reason why the BYDL did not enter any players into the 2303 draft. There was some thought that another year of development and not allowing so many to declare for the draft (and thus the ability to earn caps) was part of a larger plan to help distribute players to new teams. There is also some speculation in the Season Pass Association made up of the Nuka World League and Vim! League that there will be some expansion to their minor league system. The SPA has only its major leagues and one level of minors, and the minor teams are overloaded with few chances to develop players. There has been no official word from Bradberton about those changes, but expect more news in January either confirming or denying those changes. As the 2304 season approaches, the CBO will only get stronger and more populare in time with its constantly increasing populations. Howard has been intrigued by the growing and shrinking population centers around the Boston Commonwealth, so he is always looking to improve the makeup of the league. Some speculate that Howard had a hand in the groups looking to purchase the Warwick franchise since that population center had stagnated with most people working in the area choosing to live in Quincy and making the long commute to Warwick Homestead. Future changes in populations could dictate other relocations, but we do not expect any announcements on that front in the coming year. Based on stadium construction sites, though, we could see some relocations or even expansion if it is necessary within the next 10 years. Man, we're approaching the level of changes where I'd personally need a picture to keep track of it instead of just notes, haha. Great stuff, keep it up.
