Cards news: Sept. 2 -- Roster re-arrangement time
The St. Louis Cardinals have added outfielders Robert Neustrom and Jack Lausch to their roster along with left-handed relief pitcher Julio Robina.
The team was able to add the players due to the Sept. 1 expansion of rosters to 28 players. Neustrom has been the Cardinals starting left fielder much of the season batting .229 with 22 home runs and 58 RBIs before suffering a knee injury on August 8 which kept him out for three weeks. He did play two rehab games at AAA Memphis, where he hit .250 with one home runs and an RBI. St. Louis acquired Lausch in a July 31 trade with the Baltimore Orioles. The 23-year-old played in 28 games/27 starts at AAA Memphis where he hit .315 with nine home runs and 25 RBIs. Prior to that, he had split the season between the Orioles AAA team at Norfolk and with the Orioles. He has played 48 games in the majors, during which he has hit .271 with five homers and 17 RBIs. Robaina, 26, has bounced between the Cardinals and AAA this season. In 20 games with St. Louis, he has posted no record with a 7.90 ERA. Pitching in 18 games for Memphis, the lefty has gone 4-4 with five saves and a 3.59 ERA. Being sent down is outfielder Cameron Leary. The 25-year-old did have some success during his time with the Cardinals, hitting .262 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 15 games/13 starts. He will have to pass through waivers before joining Memphis. |
