1886 standings as of 7/8/1886.
Story of 1886 has to be Toad Ramsey.
The Toad has a record of 27-10 1.71 and 288 k's with 34 starts to go.
He is on pace to break the strikeout record and become the first pitcher to strikeout 500 batters. Matt Kilroy, the real strikeout leader probably wont make it to 550k's.

Louisville Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WCS
With starter Toad Ramsey leading the charge, the Louisville Colonels defeated the Detroit Wolverines, 6-4, in Game 3 of the World Championship Series today. The left-hander threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball at Eclipse Park I to help Louisville take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Had Amos Cross not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Cross hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Colonels.
"Every team in baseball loses," Wolverines manager Bill Watkins said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Eclipse Park I in Louisville.

Detroit Win to Pull Even With Louisville
The Detroit Wolverines defeated the Louisville Colonels, 8-6 in Game 4 of the World Championship Series today. Making an impact was first baseman Dan Brouthers, who went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. The win moves Detroit into a 2-2 tie with Louisville in the series.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Sam Thompson came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Louisville pitcher Guy Hecker, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 8-6.
"Glad to get this win," said Thompson. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."

Raucous Recreation Park Crowd Propels Wolverines to 7-4 Victory; Series Tied at 3
The Detroit Wolverines and the Louisville Colonels will take the World Championship Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Wolverines beat the Colonels 7-4 at Recreation Park to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Detroit second baseman Hardy Richardson went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fifth when Richardson, who finished 3rd in the NL in home runs with 4 in 1883, hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Wolverines into the lead, 4-3.

Detroit Beats Louisville in World Championship Series
The Detroit Wolverines pulled out all the stops tonight, winning the World Championship Series in a hard-fought series with the Louisville Colonels.
It was a seesaw affair, but with a 5-3 victory at Recreation Park, Detroit lay claim to the franchise's 1st championship.
"There's no denying we faced a tough opponent," said Dan Brouthers. "But as the old saying goes, 'when the going gets tough, the tough get going,' and that's what we did today."
The champs finished the regular season 88-38 and claimed first place in the National League.
A victory parade is set to be schedule in Detroit in the days to come.

Latest 1887 standings.
Noticed Tip O'Neil had another 40 game hitting streak.
Of course there was a reason O'Neil hit .435 in 1887.
However the game doesn't know that. all it knows is he hit .435.
So i can't complain that he's hitting .421.
Was hoping to finish the season but went to walmart and picked up Hogan's Heroes complete series. Just dvd but still clear compared to when i was a kid.

Just noticed Curt Welch went from 56 stolen bases in 1886 to 103 in 1887.
Not sure why as he only had like 89 in the real AA.
Could be the trade off of using the actual starter.
Maybe someday we could get the actual starting lineup and that might even it out a bit.
I do have to say i think the pitcher's overall careers have been closer than
my past sims.

Browns Rally Past Giants to Claim 1-0 Series Lead
The St. Louis Browns took the first game of the World Championship Series in dramatic fashion today, topping the New York Giants in a ninth-inning, walk-off, 7-6 win. Giants left-hander Roger Connor was impressive in the loss. He went 2-3 with a triple, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times.
In the bottom of the ninth, Charlie Comiskey had a chance to deal the knockout blow. And he did, punching a run-scoring single to right off New York pitcher Bill George.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Comiskey.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sportsmans Park in St. Louis.

New York Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WCS
The New York Giants got a strong performance from pitcher Mickey Welch, who stymied the visiting St. Louis Browns en route to a win, 7-3, in Game 3 of the World Championship Series today. The Browns could never get a bead on the right-handed Welch, who threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball. The Giants now hold a 2-1 in the best-of-7 series.
The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the third inning, but Welch was able to pitch out of a jam. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and St. Louis trailing 3-1, Welch retired Dave Foutz, who struck out.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Polo Grounds in New York.

Almost There: New York On Cusp of World Championship Series Triumph After 8-7 Win
As the New York Giants and St. Louis Browns battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.
Young New York left fielder Mike Tiernan, 20 led the way with a strong hitting performance in the 12-inning marathon. Tiernan went 2-5 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice during the 8-7 New York win over the Browns. The win gives the Giants a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 World Championship Series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th inning, when New York shortstop Monte Ward, facing Nat Hudson, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Giants the 8-7 win.
"This place was electric at the end," Tiernan said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Polo Grounds in New York.

Giants KO Browns
With a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Browns tonight at Polo Grounds , the New York Giants wrapped up their 1st title in team history.
New York left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Giants celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.
"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said New York manager Jim Mutrie. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."
A jovial mood filled the air as New York celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.
"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship New York Giants," the mayor said.
The champions completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the National League and a 90-39 record.

This is outSTANDING!

As someone who has played 19th century as far back as I can remember, this is great. I have been doing this same thing (still using v22, I don't want to screw anything up). I've actually gone loco: I have an excel file where I have mapped out the games played for every player on a team for that season, then I have a corresponding Word file showing me the transactions of that day. I have no idea when transactions happened, so I just made them up, but making sure the player was available for the correct number of games for each team.
I have Radbourn making those starts in 84, and I've never had him match his record.
I am currently planning the 1895 season, first I do the Excel mapping, then transcribe moves to the Word doc, then do the transactions. I am cheating a bit in that I have had injuries off.
Play on, I'm loving the updates.

Thanks.
Its taking me a little longer to run it due to my schedule and using the real starters.
I have found that printing out your spreadsheet instead of trying to split your monitor screen works better and is easier on the eyes.
I have my injuries and fatigue set low. I doubt if i will increase it since i will be using historical transactions and lineups after 1901 anyway.
I would advise doing a backup for each season if you can.
It comes in handy when you make a mistake or theres a crash.
Are you using the real rosters?
I'm looking forward to seeing how Cy Young does and the 1890s Orioles are coming.
