FaceGens Have All Changed

I'm the Commissioner of an online league that's been running since 2017. I went to backup my league before a sim, but it crashed before it could finish and corrupted.

I downloaded the league file, backed up the league, and ran a sim as normal. I realized after uploading that all my player images had completely changed. When you have a league in action since 2017, immersion is a big part of why I play OOTP, so this is terrifying.

The backup file has some profile pictures, but it's not exhaustive. Even for ones where I do have a backup and do overwrite the player with the backed up ID, when I play around in the player editor and click "regenerate same picture" it gives me the new player image, not the old image I'm trying to restore.

I feel like the players.dat file is locking players into a brand new image set or something.

Is this something that can be restored at all, either with an image set from someone else in the league, or with an older league file?

There's actually a faces.dat and it's possible this is what was corrupted in the crash.

If you have an old one from a previous save, you might be able to copy that one over the corrupt one and restore (most) of the original faces. Just keep a backup of the .dat files before trying.

Generally the .dat are not mix and match, so don't try this with the other ones, but the faces one can sometimes be replaced without issues.

Thank you! I will try this and see if it fixes the issue.

It could be also, since your league is running since 2017, because the ID for the player FGs changed a couple of version ago. What you can do if it's the case is to get the pack in my signature (which is id fixed but stop in 1939) and the one in LansdowneSt signature (not the complete pack since it isn't id fixed yet but his personal one). With both of them you will have a good number of players with the correct id for your game.

If this is the problem of course...

Just the update.

Never responded back, but the faces.dat corruption was the issue. Used a backup and all the fictional players went back to normal. Real players went from their 2017 versions to I imagine current ones, but I'll take that loss to save the thousands of other faces. Thank you!
