facegen player names over ID's

Is there a way to make the game select facegens by the players name 1st over the players ID number?

The order for the game to select a facegen is: his Historical Minors ID (found on baseball-reference's minor league page for a player) then the Historical MLB ID (which is found on baseball-reference's MLB page for a player) and then the First_Last name convention.

In the history of MLB and MiLB baseball here are too many people names the same to have it be "First_Last".fg. But "First_Last" still works. I realize it is hard to look at a list of .fg files (believe me I know!) and readily identify which file belongs to whom, but it takes but a few seconds to look up the code for someone. The Historical Minors is the best unique identifier to use for the game. If you have ones that you made and want to use, just save them as the proper ID or remove the one(s) that is higher in the order of loading. There is no toggle that changes the order the game looks for the .fg files, so the above is a long way of saying "No, there is not a way to manually change the order".

Yes. I do know this and this is exactly what I would like to change. The picking order. That is all. That should be no biggie to do. You already get to pick photos 1st or facegens 1st. I'm not looking to stop anything from anybody. Just looking to be able to use my own facegen file without the game overiding them.

In the meantime, you'd have to do what others have done which is keep an .fg file to the side and save those copies atop the other ones. You'd also have to rename all the files to be the priority format. That's what folks in your spot did years ago when the order switched.

I think rather than some toggle that changes the selection preference, they'd just add something on the right-hand side of the Game Settings>Database page and replicate what it has for photos. The option to point the game to an alt folder (which would just have yours). Repointing (as seen by the photos repointer on that page) looks like it might be easier for them to do. That was the photo solution when people had their own collections of photos, so seems it could be the same for the other type of image, facegens.

Whichever way they can work it would be great. I'm sorry, but I'm not about to change over 35,000 facegens files to ID's. Just not going to happen. So I have to keep them separate. If you could change the priority order, then both can be combined into one folder and pick which way you want to go. I spent too many years putting my folder together just to have them overridden. So, yes, I've made a "clean" folder with just the file player names. That way mine don't get overridden. But it keeps me from using yours. Sorry.
