Way Too Much Offense in Minors
This seems like an issue I keep running into with OOTP. Based on the default, almost every sim I do, the minor leagues have tons of offense.
I made certain in this current sim I'm doing, to check both boxes for all of my minor leagues: -"Use Auto-Calc Modifiers for Accuracy (Recommended)" AND -"Automatically Control In-Game Engine (only recommended for minors/feeders)" I've 4 years into the sim - which one would think would give it time to do all the re-calcuating...and this year the offense is probably the worst it's been. For my AAA and AA for example, pitchers with ERAs into the 5.00's are still above average for ERA+ (meaning, league adjusted, a 5+ ERA is still better than "normal"). This seems like a problem OOTP hasn't addressed, surprisingly & disappointingly, being such a game dedicated to realism. Is it an issue that I'm doing historical? Is there something else I need to check other than what it sets for default, and the 2 boxes I checked which supposedly help with that? Why does OOTP always have this issue? Do they not know it's an issue? Or is it somehow not easy to fix? |

I can't help you with whether or not historical makes a difference. I only dabble in historical and when I do there's no minor leagues as I do replays of seasons from my youth.
As to a "normal" game I play out all innings of every game, import to the newest version and continue on. So 31 complete seasons (season 32 in progress) that started with real players in 2002 to a league that has become fictional by attrition. My game has always had 5 levels of minor leagues. In all of those years, over 5 levels of minors, 155 seasons, I count 6 seasons where an ERA was over 5. Highest ever 5.46 that is a one time occurrence. The others were just a bit over. No not all games played in v24 rather they have been played from v4 to v24. I think that is fine since I haven't had the issue in v24 itself, and I have had consistent numbers season to season and version to version. I do autocalc manually before each season. I do not use "auto control engine" option and my stats have come in as expected compared to the "League Totals". While that doesn't help fix your issue at least it lets you know someone playing non-historical has not had your issue. Hopefully someone that plays historical chimes in and give you some advice. |

Can you shed light on how you autocalc manually before each season? This appears to potentially solve my issue. Kind of disappointing though that the "Use Auto-Calc Modifiers for Accuracy (Recommended)" and "Automatically Control In-Game Engine (only recommended for minors/feeders)" don't do what they say... unless somehow I am doing something wrong. |

My game is setup where MLB starts one week before the minors. So I AC on MLB opening day for MLB. I wait for opening day for the minors and manually run AC for each league. Rookie ball isn't until after the draft in June so I have to manually do that on R-ball opening day then. I don't know if playing historical and it's settings are messing with your game. Over the years I've read some posted issues in historical where someone pops in with reasons why an issue (generally speaking, not talking about your issue here) is happening. I'd post in the v24 section (more eyes than this section) and ask there, maybe a historical player will have some ideas. Can't say anything about "control engine" as my game was started before it was a feature. Since I had no issues with stat output I never saw a reason to turn it on. Also many players do use the automatically run AC and AFAIK haven't had issues with it. I think you need more input before deciding those features don't work. |
