SCA Semifinals Preview

SCA Playoffs - #5 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (66-54) vs #1 Vault 81 Dwellers (77-43)

Season Series

Vault 81 6, Jamaica Plain 2

April 19-20 @V81: JP 1-0, V81 6-1
May 8-9 @JP: JP 4-2, V81 8-2
July 31-August 1 @JP: V81 7-2, V81 13-7
September 11-12 @V81: V81 4-3, V81 7-2

Analysis

A year ago, the Vault 81 Dwellers were down on their luck, finishing 50-70 and 6th place in the Railroad League. They traded one of their star players, CF Aesed Hayjen, to University Point, and accepted that their three-year success from 2299-2301 when they reached the playoffs all three years was over.

Then, something changed. People who struggled in 2305 suddenly started playing like champions in 2306. The Dwellers found ways to win and kept on winning. By the end of the season, Vault 81 had completed a journey from last place in the Railroad League in 2305 to the team with the top record in the South Charles Association in 2306.

The Dwellers now get to face Jamaica Plain, which easily handled the defending champion Deathclaws in two games in the Play-in Series. This matchup will mark the 3rd time these two teams meet in the playoffs, with the higher-ranked team having swept both matchups:

2300 SCA Semifinal: #1 Vault 81 3, #4 Jamaica Plain 0
2301 SCA Play-in Series: #4 Vault 81 2, #5 Jamaica Plain 0

The Dwellers are what we would call overachievers since their record is much higher than they were expected, their stats, too. PAM picked the Dwellers to finish 58-62, good enough for 4th in the RL, while Jamaica Plain was expected to win the Minutemen League with a 73-47.

Vault 81 finished 3rd in the SCA in runs scored (665) and a respectable 4th in home runs (175). They were 3rd in stolen bases (59) with an all-around fast team and 1st in base running (0.4). Trade acquisition, CF Stu Gains (.298/40/109), emerged as the bull in the middle of the lineup. He is accompanied by five other Dwellers who hit 25 or more home runs: 3B Knud Bather (.281/34/75), RF Joe Rathmann (.289/27/83), 2B/1B Harry Byrd (.358/27/95), SS Tib Shorthop (.311/26/84), and 2B/SS End Yamada (.302/25/101). They are so loaded, that Shorthop may be relegated to the bench for parts of the series.

If you think the offense was good, the pitching was even better, finishing 1st in runs allowed (468) and Starters ERA (3.86) and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (3.69). SP Exxie Summerset (22-1, 2.15) was a record-setting pitcher, and he has not even reached his full potential! No other starter finished with a sub-4.00 ERA, but they still can get good innings out of veteran starters Bruce Iddings (12-12, 4.80) and Vince McCort (14-9, 4.41). In the bullpen, CL Chris Salazar (26 SV, 3.90) was decent, but Nick Kifer (3-1, 2.32), Tennessee Tailor (1-0. 1.29), and Aaron Burton (1-0, 0.95) really closed down the middle innings.

Prediction

A lot is pointing toward Vault 81 to win this series: a great season, loads of young and hungry talent, season success over Jamaica Plain, and historical success in the playoffs against the Red Rockets. Still, there is always an X factor, and recent playoff history is the biggest one. We will take the Rockets to keep up the momentum and get the upset, 3 games to 2.

SCA Playoffs - #3 Roxbury Rad Sox (74-46) vs #2 Spectacle Island Reapers (71-49)

Season Series

Roxbury 4, Spectacle Island 4

April 25-26 @SI: SI 5-4, Rox 8-5
May 15-16 @Rox: Rox 4-3, SI 7-2
July 31-August 1 @SI: SI 9-5, SI 3-1
August 7-8 @Rox: Rox 8-7, Rox 10-9

Analysis

Before moving into the ocean from Warwick to Spectacle Island, the Reapers franchise had been in a long-term rut. As the Mirelurks, they made two early playoff appearances: 2296 when they won the Minutemen League and 2298 when they finished second. As the #2 overall seed in the 2296 playoffs, Warwick fell to #7 The Slog, 3-2 that went on to win the first Sole Survivor Series. In their return as the third seed in the SCA, they fell to #2 Oberland. Now as a rebranded and relocated franchise, they return to the playoffs seeking their first-ever series win.

Unfortunately for the Reapers, they have to face one of the best teams in recent history, the Roxbury Rad Sox, winners of the 2303 and 2304 Sole Survivor Series. Neither of these teams have been in the playoffs together before, with the Rad Sox making their first appearance in 2302 and then returning every year since.

Though they ended up finishing three games back in the Railroad League, Roxbury was still a good all-around team. Offensively, they finished 2nd in scoring (669) and were in the top half of every offensive category. Three players stood out the most with a combination of high average and heavy hitting: CF Ben Pawlak (.316/29/111), 3B Donn Mattingley (.287/31/86), and LF Young Goodman (.307/26/78). RF Deerlord Fugivmee (.320/4/42/18 SB) is one of the best leadoff hitters.

Pitching was also good, finishing 2nd in runs allowed (470), 2nd in Starters ERA (3.87), and 1st in Bullpen ERA (3.52). Ace SP Nuka Laloosh (19-7, 3.08) was only outshined by Vault 81's Summerset. SP Urm Rehfeldt (11-8, 4.19) and SP Whokill Poole (16-8, 3.97), while 35-year-old SP Chet Arthur (12-10, 4.49) held his own. In the bullpen, CL Andy Helium (30 SV, 3.81) had a solid year with a lot of help from RP Roger Failure (5-4, 3.82, 1 SV), RP John Irwin (0-0, 2.50), and RP Adam Bias (0-2, 1.80).

Spectacle Island was not as successful but still good overall. On offense, the Reapers finished 4th in runs scored (663), just six runs back of the Sox. They were 1st in home runs with 229. That's mostly because two players had the greatest home run seasons in CBO history, by far. 1B Homestay Lovetap (.346/61/149) set the home run and RBI records, while his teammate 3B Diamond Ball (.379/57/126) spent a good portion of the season as the home runs leader. Both players will contend with University Point's Barker Cocoa for the Nuka Hitter Award. Other Spectacle Island players who contributed to the scoring were LF Juda Stoner (.249/44/90), RF Matt Basile (.236/28/64), CF Gin Kwon (.326/7/46)m and SS Pipewrench Mathis (.251/20/59). This team can hit at all eight position spots.

The pitching finished 3rd in runs allowed (537), 3rd in Starters ERA (4.34), and 9th in Bullpen ERA (4.67), which is probably their one spot keeping them from winning it all. The three playoff starters--Dobbie Radoncis (15-7, 4.14), Isaiah Swindler (19-4, 3.78), and Jonathan Newman (12-8, 4.74)--were all serviceable, but they will miss their #2 SP, Corey Ware (12-7, 4.28) in the playoffs. Ware was improving before going down in August with a serious shoulder injury. Bullpen pitching was such a problem that the Reapers went with two closers: Alien Mars (16 SV, 5.68) and Bryan Arsonist (21 SV, 6.20). Mars came over from Diamond City in a July trade, but went from a 4.22 ERA with the Swatters to a 5.90 ERA with Spectacle Island.

Prediction

It's been a long time since the Spectacle Island franchise has been to the playoffs. Yes, they are an up-and-coming team that will probably dethrone Atom and University Point for awhile. However, Roxbury is good and knows how to win at this time of the year. We guess the Reapers can steal a game, so we will go with the Sox 3, Spectacle Island 1.

2306 CBO Playoffs

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

21 September 2306

CBO Association Finals Previews

We are down to four teams in the 2306 CBO season. Those four teams hold four of the best five records in the regular season, with Roxbury surprisingly being the fifth team this season. That means we have four really good teams, no underdogs, in the final four.

NCA Finals Preview: #2 Sunshine Tidings Chemists (76-44) vs #1 County Crossing Bloodbugs (78-42)

Season Series

Sunshine Tidings 5, County Crossing 3

April 17-18 @ST: ST 6-5, ST 4-0
June 5-6 @CC: CC 9-4, ST 4-1
June 19-20 @ST: CC 12-9, CC 6-2
September 11-12 @CC: ST 5-4, ST 6-5

Analysis

When the two teams met just two weeks ago in the final week of the regular season, Sunshine Tidings had a chance to control its own destiny for the top seed in the playoffs. After defeating the Bloodugs twice in COunty Crossing, though, the Chemists dropped two of three to Fort Hagen in the final regular season series to fall two games back of the Bugs. Had the teams finished tied for the best record, the Chemists would have won the tiebreaker.

Sunshine Tidings has to feel good to get the proverbial bloodbug off their back after winning their first postseason series in franchise history by sweeping a good Easy Town team. Now, the Chemists get to exact revenge from last season when the #5 seed Bloodbugs swept the #1 Chemists in the NCA Semifinals. It was the only ever meeting between the two teams in the playoffs.

The Chemists were not dominant against the Assaultrons, but they did enough to sweep the series, including the 12-5 Game 3 dismantling at Easy Town. Other than Joey Dimes getting roughed up in a no-decision, the Chemists' pitchers did their jobs. CL Cush Baker also gave up two runs in two innings, but he was able to be the winning pitcher twice, both games where Sunshine Tidings scored the winning run in the bottom of the 8th.

If Sunshine Tidings can carry their starters deep, they have a chance to defeat County Crossing in this seven-game contest. In his only start against the Bugs in 2306, SP Mike Rubric pitched a complete-game shutout. SP Eugene Gym started two games against County Crossing, going 1-0 with a 2.53 ERA against them. He will start Game 1 with Rubric scheduled for Game 2.

Some of the most successful on offense for the Chemists against County Crossing were CF Ricky Ticky Laughy (.345/2/5), 3B Ross Merchantman (.333/3/5), and RF Baktu DaWell (.235/2/7).

The Bloodbugs won only 3 of the 8 contests between the two teams, but SP Whip Lashley, who will start Game 3, was 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA in one start. On the other side, CL Wick Prater (0-1, 13.50) and RP Josh Kish (0-0, 10.12) were both shellacked by Sunshine Tidings. Game 1 starter Gavin Eviritts was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA, and Game 2 starter College Luckyman was 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in two starts.

On offense, a few players shined against County Crossing. 1B Babs Rooth hit .400 with a home run and three RBI. Other top performers were 1B Zeldolph Violet (.393/3/8), SS Cy Thompson (.323/2/8), and 3B Taygun Topaloglu (.310/1/3).

Prediction

County Crossing is in its third straight NCA Final and fourth overall; Sunshine Tidings is in its first overall. While the Chemists are a good team that handled the Bloodbugs in the 2306 season by winning the season series, we still think it will be too tough to win this due to not having a history of being here and not having home-field advantage. We think (and hope) this will be a tight series, so we will take the Bugs, 4 games to 3.

SCA Finals Preview: #3 Roxbury Rad Sox (74-46) vs #1 Vault 81 Dwellers (77-43)

Season Series

Vault 81 7, Roxbury 5

June 22-23 @Rox: Rox 8-5, Rox 3-1, Rox 7-2
July 13-15 @V81: V81 3-0, V81 5-2, Rox 8-6
September 7-9 @V81: V81 3-2, V81 3-2, V81 7-0
September 14-16 @Rox: Rox 7-3, V81 7-4, V81 11-4

Analysis

With the Railroad League on the line, both Vault 81 and Roxbury met in the final two weekends to determine the league champion. The result? The Dwellers dominated both series, sweeping the Rad Sox at home and then winning two of three (needing only one win) at Roxbury to clinch first place in the league and association.

Now, the two teams play again for the real stakes: a trip to the Sole Survivor Series. Roxbury is familiar with this drill. The Sox are making their fifth-straight playoffs appearance and their third SCA Finals appearance in the past four seasons. They won their first two appearances and went on to win the Sole Survivor Series in both seasons (2303 and 2304). For the Dwellers, this is their fourth playoff appearance overall and their second SCA Finals appearance. In 2300, they appeared, also as the #1 seed, but fell to Diamond City, which went on to beat Fort Hagen in the Sole Survivor Series. This season also marks the first time that both the Sox and Vault 81 are in the playoffs together, so it is their first playoff meeting.

For Roxbury, they had to rely on their bullpen for 40% of the victories they had against the Dwellers in 2306. Only SP Nuke Laloosh (1-0, 2.31) had a winning record for starters, while CL Andy Helium (2-0, 2 SV, 1 BS, 1.50) had the best overall success. Game 1 starter Urm Rehfeldt was 0-3 with a 5.50 ERA, while Game 2 starter Whokill Poole was 1-2 with a 5.95 ERA.

Offense was not as successful against Vault 81 as they were against most of the CBO, including being shut out twice. There were only two players with a significant number of at bats to bat over .300: 2B Tut Campbell (.353/0/4) and RF Deerlord Fugivmee (.333/1/4). Multiple home run hitters were 3B Donn Mattingley (.261/2/4), LF Young Goodman (.233/2/6), and 1B Duncan MacCready (.217/2/6).

For the Dwellers, everything in 2306 seemed to revolve around the sheer dominance of SP Exxie Summerset. In three starts against Roxbury, Summerset went 3-0 with a 0.81 ERA. He is expected to start Game 2. Game 1 starter, Vince McCort was 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA, and Game 3 starter Bruce Iddings was 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA. It is a surprise to state it, but the starting pitching favors Vault 81 in this series.

On offense, the Dwellers had six guys overall who had success against the Roxbury pitching. In order of batting average: 1B Mace Pageturner (.372/1/6), SS End Yamada (.341/3/8), CF Stu Gains (.333/0/4), 3B Knud Bather (.300/4/9), RF Joe Rathmann (.289/1/2), and 2B/1B Harry Byrd (.283/3/7).

Prediction

Roxbury was upset by a surprising Egret team in 2305. Now they face another league foe in the worst-to-first story of Vault 81. In 2306, everything points to the Dwellers being the better team and the team best equipped to handle the winner of the NCA Finals series. However, the Rad Sox have been here before and know how to win in this situation. While there has been some roster turnover from two years ago, the core is here with expectations that star additions like CF Ben Pawlak, who has now been to several Association Championships with both the Sox and Fort Hagen will shine in this series. Not even Summerset can help the Dwellers for this one to stop the Roxbury tide. We are going to take the Sox in six, 4 games to two.

Feature: An Inside Look at Oberland's CF/SP Zaire Inquisitor

When he was selected as the 5th overall pick in the 2303 draft by the Oberland T-51s, he was drafted purely on his prospects as a two-way player. A member of the Nauset Beach Lurk Hunters of the Cape Cod Youth League, Inquisitor only played two years of baseball.

His high school numbers did not stand out at all. As a CF, he started 64 of 74 games with the Lurk Hunters, batting .245 with 16 home runs, 38 RBI, and 36 runs. As a pitcher, he started 19 games, going 11-5 with a 2.08 ERA in 138.2 IP with 31 walks and 101 strikeouts.

In two seasons in the GBRL with the Lynn Fortune Finders, struggled to find his footing his first season, batting just .249, but he upped that average to .355 in 2305. Overall, in two seasons, he started 121 of 160 games, batting .315 with 32 home runs, 101 RBI, and 87 runs.

His pitching went in the opposite direction. After starting 23 games in 2304, going 11-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 161.0 IP with 54 walks and 126 strikeouts, he struggled in 2305. He only started six games, going 3-3 with a 5.35 ERA in 37.0 IP with 15 walks and 30 strikeouts.

Fast forward to 2306. Inquisitor was promoted by the T-51s to the BMU squad (AA), the Mystic Pines Raybathers. There, Inquisitor made a leap in both hitting and pitching. In 88 games with 87 starts at CF, Inquisitor batted .417, slamming 23 home runs, 91 RBI, 89 runs, 39 walks, and just 18 strikeouts. He led the BMU in batting average, hits (144), and WPA (6.05). His 144 hits set the BMU single-season record.

On the mound, he started 22 games, going 12-3 with a 3.43 ERA in 141.2 IP with 26 walks and 97 strikeouts. He led the BMU in wins (tied), WAR (4.7), innings pitched, and quality starts (15).

Now, Inquisitor has done something no other player in CBO association history has ever done. He won both the Commonwealth Association's Medford Memorial Hitter Award AND the Milton General Pitcher Award.

What's next for Inquisitor? Well, it appears that he may either move up one more rung to play with Oberland's MML (AAA) team, the Lynn Fortune Finders (which moved to the MML from the GBRL in 2306) or he may end up with the T-51s. Inquisitor is considered Oberland's top prospect and was ranked #17 by OSA scouts. That number is sure to be better in 2307.

Just as a comparison, the 2303 draft's top 5 went this way:

Round 1, Pick 1 - Spectacle Island: SP Jalep Temper (Current: Finch Farm CBO - 29 G, 13 GS, 4-10, 2 SV, 4.41 ERA)
Round 1, Pick 2 - Egret Ninjas: SP Hry Caje, age 17 (Current: Egret's AA Plymouth Pilgrims - 22 GS, 6-4, 6.15 ERA, #2 Prospect)
Round 1, Pick 3 - The Slog Ghouls: LF Elijah Booke (Current: The Slog's AAA Burlington Ferals - Stats with AA Mass Pike Radroaches - 88 GS, .384, 17 HR, 68 RBI, #23 Prospect)
Round 1, Pick 4 - Quincy Gunners: C Slush Carfixer (Current: Quincy CBO - Stats with AAA Malden Grognaks - 43 GS, .290, 14 HR, 45 RBI, #60 Prospect)
Round 1, Pick 5 - Oberland T-51s: LF Zaire Inquisitor

He's also now got some hardware, as the 20-year-old has been named the South League Clutch Arm Award winner.

NR Hitter - The manager of the Saugus Launchers said he thinks Mia Thunder is only going to get better as he gets older.

Association Championship Series Results

We are now down to our final two teams in the 2306 Sole Survivor Series. Here are the results from the Association Championship Series.

NCA: County Crossing 4, Sunshine Tidings 0

The County Crossing Bloodbugs will advance to their second Sole Survivor Series. Sunshine Tidings came in looking for revenge from being swept a year ago but could do no better in getting dominated by the formidable Bugs. It was a historical NCACS as the Chemists were held to just one run in four games, something we are sure will never be beat.

Game 1: Sunshine Tidings 1 at County Crossing 3

Association Championship Game 1 Victory for Eviritts and County Crossing

The County Crossing Bloodbugs powered past the visiting Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 3-1, in the opener of the Association Championship at Beantown Brewery Stadium today. County Crossing starting pitcher Gavin Eviritts threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball, to lead the charge. The Bloodbugs now lead the series 1-0.

Sunshine Tidings could barely put a dent in Eviritts. The right-hander tossed 93 pitches over 7 innings for the Bloodbugs, allowing only 4 hits.

"Every loss hurts," said Sunshine Tidings manager Ray Pratt. "But this was a tough one."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Beantown Brewery Stadium in County Crossing.

Game 2: Sunshine Tidings 0 at County Crossing 4

County Crossing Tops Sunshine Tidings Again, 4-0

The County Crossing Bloodbugs got an exceptional performance from starter College Luckyman, who silenced the Sunshine Tidings offense en route to a 4-0 shutout win in Game 2 of the Association Championship today. The Chemists could never get a bead on the left-handed Luckyman, who threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. The Bloodbugs now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

Luckyman, who was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, threw 82 pitches over 8 innings, while allowing no runs.

"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Luckyman. "Successful pitchers do it."

The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 2nd , 2306 at ArcJet Systems Stadium in Sunshine Tidings.

Game 3: County Crossing 7 at Sunshine Tidings 0

Bloodbugs Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0

The County Crossing Bloodbugs got an exceptional performance from starter Whip Lashley, who silenced the Sunshine Tidings offense en route to a 7-0 shutout win in Game 3 of the Association Championship today. The Chemists could never get a bead on the left-handed Lashley, who threw 8.2 innings of shutout ball. The Bloodbugs now hold a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.

In his 105-pitch effort, Lashley allowed no runs on 3 hits over 8.2 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 3.

Lashley said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at ArcJet Systems Stadium in Sunshine Tidings.

Game 4: County Crossing 7 at Sunshine Tidings 0

Bloodbugs Move on to Sole Survivor Series

The County Crossing Bloodbugs had all facets of their game going and have swept the Sunshine Tidings Chemists in the Association Championship. County Crossing now heads off to the Sole Survivor Series, after wrapping up the series with a 7-0 win.

Eviritts earned his second victory of the series, throwing eight innings of shutout ball on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts. In two games, he was 2-0 in 15.0 innings with one run, zero earned, nine hits, five walks, and 15 strikeouts.

Any Why was 3 for 4 with a walk and two runs scored. Kurt Kilgore was 2 fo4 4 with a home run, a walk, a run scored, and two RBI.

Why was named MVP, as he put up a .643 batting average, with a .688 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 5 runs.

County Crossing batted just .130 as a team in the series. Their lone run came on a passed ball by Eviritts in the 6th inning of Game 1.

The County Crossing Bloodbugs don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Vault 81 Dwellers - Roxbury Rad Sox series. Vault 81 leads the series 2 games to 1. The Sole Survivor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship finishes.

SCA: Roxbury 4, Vault 81 3

It was a thrilling series that all came down to Roxbury's Nuke Laloosh against Vault 81's record-setting SP Exxie Summerset. In the end, Laloosh had more big game know-how, leading the Rad Sox to their third Sole Survivor Series appearance in the past four years.

Game 1: Roxbury 3 at Vault 81 4

Association Championship Game 1 Victory for Summerset and Vault 81

The Vault 81 Dwellers started the Association Championship in style today, downing the visiting Roxbury Rad Sox at CURIE Inc. Field by a score of 4-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Dwellers right-hander Exxie Summerset threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball.

Kory Richardson had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Vault 81. He came through with a 2-run double to put Vault 81 in front, 4-3.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Summerset.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at CURIE Inc. Field in Boston.

Game 2: Roxbury 3 at Vault 81 4

Vault 81 Tops Roxbury Again, 4-3

With starter Vince McCort leading the charge, the Vault 81 Dwellers defeated the Roxbury Rad Sox, 4-3, in Game 2 of the Association Championship today. The left-hander threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball at CURIE Inc. Field to help Vault 81 take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.

In the bottom of the second, Vault 81 catcher Paul Tracy had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Tracy stroked a 2-run home run to right. It made the score 2-0, Vault 81. For the game, he was 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Vault 81 manager Dan Ferreri.

The next game is set to be played for Wednesday, October 3rd , 2306 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Game 3: Vault 81 3 at Roxbury 7

Connexx Blasts Dwellers, Rad Sox Take Game 3, 7-3

The Roxbury Rad Sox have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Vault 81 Dwellers, winning 7-3 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury today. Rad Sox second baseman Chris Connexx was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Rad Sox to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Association Championship.

The Rad Sox took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Facing Vault 81 hurler Bruce Iddings with two outs, Connexx hit a grand slam home run.

"We're happy," Connexx told reporters after the win. "When you're in the playoffs, you've got to treat every game like it could be your last."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Game 4: Vault 81 1 at Roxbury 4

Raucous Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury Crowd Propels Rad Sox to 4-1 Victory; Series Tied at 2

The Roxbury Rad Sox topped the Vault 81 Dwellers by the score of 4-1 and moved into a 2-2 tie in the Association Championship today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Roxbury starter Nuke Laloosh, who threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball in the win.

Roxbury grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases empty, Chris Connexx delivered a solo home run, to make it 2-1 in favor of the Rad Sox.

"It was a good effort all around," said Connexx.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Game 5: Vault 81 2 at Roxbury 7

Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Rad Sox, 7-2

The Roxbury Rad Sox moved to within one game of the Sole Survivor Series today, downing the visiting Vault 81 Dwellers at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury by a score of 7-2. Rad Sox shortstop Purple Gupta did some major damage. He went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win gives the Rad Sox a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 Association Championship.

In the bottom of the first, Gupta had one of his most important at-bats: a 2-run single off Vince McCort that staked the Rad Sox to a 2-0 lead.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Gupta said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

The next game is set to be played for Sunday, October 7th , 2306 at CURIE Inc. Field in Boston.

Game 6: Roxbury 3 at Vault 81 8

Rad Sox Hammered by Shorthop, Drop Game 6 to Dwellers

The Vault 81 Dwellers and the Roxbury Rad Sox will take the Association Championship to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Dwellers beat the Rad Sox 8-3 at CURIE Inc. Field to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Vault 81 shortstop Tib Shorthop hit 2 home runs.

Joe Rathmann had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Vault 81. He came through with a 3-run home run to put Vault 81 in front, 6-1.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Rathmann, "and then get after it again."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at CURIE Inc. Field in Boston.

Game 7: Roxbury 5 at Vault 81 1

Association Championship Goes the Distance, Roxbury Prevails

The fans in Roxbury are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in Vault 81.

The Roxbury Rad Sox finished off the Vault 81 Dwellers 5-1 in the deciding game of the Association Championship played at CURIE Inc. Field. They took the series 4-3 and will now head to the Sole Survivor Series.

Nuke Laloosh outdueled Exxie Summerset for the final game, winning the head-to-head battle 2-1. Laloosh allowed just one earned run on eight hits with a walk and nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Summerset allowed five earned runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Summerset's two losses in the series were more than he had in the regular season.

For his standout play, Roxbury second baseman Chris Connexx was voted the series' Most Valuable Player. He batted .364, drove in 7 runs and scored 5 to lead his club to victory.

"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Connexx and that doomed us," said Dwellers manager Dan Ferreri. "Hats off to Roxbury, though. That was a great series."

The Roxbury Rad Sox will play against the County Crossing Bloodbugs in the next round. County Crossing won their series against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists 4 games to 0. The Sole Survivor Series schedule will be announced after the Association Championship finishes.

In a surprise announcement on the day, Vault 81 owner Dr. Jacob Forsythe revealed that he was turning over ownership to long-time colleague, Dr. Rachel Montano-De Luca. Montano-De Luca will take control of the team officially on the first day of the offseason, scheduled after the completion of the Sole Survivor Series.

From a press release by Forsythe: "I'm an old man and ready to rest. I'm too old to travel, too old to practice medicine in the vault. I want fresh eyes on this team, someone whom I know can build a championship team. That's why I appointed my friend and colleague, Rachel De Luca to take control of the team. She will make the Dwellers team winners."

I was right! I think that's a first! It will be Bloodbugs vs Rad Sox. The Bloodbugs look unbeatable right now!

At 7-0 in the playoffs, including three-straight shutouts, I would say so! I...I mean, Nat is going to predict them to win it all.

I have a few ideas for what the new Killers logo will be, but I would like your input. Here are a few ideas I am throwing around. Tell me which one appeals to you. Note: Colors will remain orange and blue, but some look brown, so I would redo them to look more orange than brown.

2306 CBO Playoffs

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

10 October 2306

Sole Survivor Series Preview: County Crossing Bloodbugs (78-42) vs Roxbury Rad Sox (74-46)

Season Series

County Crossing 1, Roxbury 0

April 10 @CC: CC 9-8

Analysis

In this 11th Sole Survivor Series and 9th of the full CBO, Roxbury and County Crossing are meeting for the second time. The first time the two teams met was just two seasons ago when the Rad Sox clinched their second-straight title, a 4-1 series victory over the Bloodbugs in a battle of #1 seeds.

This time things may be a little different. The Bugs are the only #1 seed in this year's matchup and they won the only meeting between the two, a 9-8 victory in 12 innings. In that game, County Crossing overcame a 7-3 deficit in the 8th inning, scoring three in the 8th and then another in the 9th to bring it to extra innings. After each team exchanged runs in the 10th, the Bugs scored the winning run on a walk-off Newscap Waldorf home run. It was his only homer on the season.

County Crossing is also more of a loaded team than the 2304 version, finishing with the CBO's best record and then sweeping their way through both the Semifinals (Nordhagen Beach) and Association Championship (Sunshine Tidings) as the CBO's hottest team at the right time.

Roxbury is no pushover. Despite failing to clinch the SCA regular season crown, dropping 5 of 6 to Vault 81 to finish second in the Railroad and as the #3 seed, the Sox are a team that knows how to win. The Rad Sox proved that by disposing of Spectacle Island, 3-1, and then surviving against Vault 81, 4-3.

Looking at the team stats comparisons, County Crossing has almost all of the offensive categories as an advantage, while the Rad Sox have most of the pitching stats in their favor. We at BNN would argue that a better pitching staff typically dominates, but we saw the opposite of that in last year's Sole Survivor Series of the Party Boys against University Point.

We have previewed all of the top players from each team in the previous round, so let's just take a look at one more item: lineup vs lineup.

As you can see, the matchup of Game 1 of Roxbury's Urm Rehfeldt (11-8, 4.19) vs Gavin Eviritts (19-5, 4.11) gives the favor clearly to the Bloodbugs. Since the Sox's Nuke Laloosh is unavailable for Game 1 since he just pitched Game 7 vs the Dwellers, County Crossing actually has the pitching advantage in the Sole Survivor Series.

Prediction

That leads us to our prediction. First, history tells us a few things. First, the SCA has dominated the NCA, winning 7 of 8 and the last four. This Bloodbugs team, though, is more comparable to that 2301 Nordhagen Beach that was the first and only NCA champion. Another factor is that Roxbury has been here before and won, while the Bugs' one chance was a blowout when they came in also as a #1 seed.

We don't care about that. We are going to predict Babs Rooth and gang to harrass Sox pitching while the pitching staff will hold down Roxbury's best. We'll take County Crossing to take this one, 4 games to 2.

I really like #2, but to me it feels like it would be better fit for a different nickname. It's my favorite but I think I'd prefer the third one. 1 and 4 are really cool too. Not a big fan of the colors for the last one, but that could be part of the adjustments.

Sole Survivor Series Games 1 and 2

Game 1: Roxbury 5 at County Crossing 7

Home Field Advantage: Rooth, County Crossing Open Sole Survivor Series with Win

The County Crossing Bloodbugs started the Sole Survivor Series in style today, downing the visiting Roxbury Rad Sox at Beantown Brewery Stadium by a score of 7-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Bloodbugs right fielder Babs Rooth was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2.

Rabbit Forest dealt the Rad Sox a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and County Crossing leading 4-3, Forest, who finished 5th in the SCA in triples with 7 in 2303, hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run single.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Rooth, "and then get after it again."

Gavin Eviritts was the winning pitcher, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. CL Wick Prater pitcher the final two innings to earn the save.

Roxbury's Chris Connexx was 3 for 4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI. SP Urm Rehfeldt allowed six earned runs in just 5.0 innings of work in suffering the loss.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Beantown Brewery Stadium in County Crossing.

Game 2: Roxbury 4 at County Crossing 5

County Crossing Tops Roxbury Again, 5-4

With starter College Luckyman leading the charge, the County Crossing Bloodbugs defeated the Roxbury Rad Sox, 5-4, in Game 2 of the Sole Survivor Series today. The left-hander threw 6.0 innings of 5-hit ball at Beantown Brewery Stadium to help County Crossing take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. The Bugs have now won all nine playoff games played in 2306.

Had Zeldolph Violet not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Violet hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Bloodbugs.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said County Crossing manager Crow Guai.

Babs Rooth had another good game for the Bugs, going 3 for 5 with an RBI. C Jimjames LaFleur had two hits and scored a run.

Duncan MacCready was the only Rad Sox player with multiple hits. He finished 2 for 4 with an RBI. All seven Roxbury hits were singles. Whokill Poole got the start in the no-decision. He allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout in 6.0 innings. CL Andy Helium was the losing pitcher, giving up the winning run in the 8th.

The next game is set to be played for Saturday, October 13th , 2306 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

News from the CBO, MML, BMU, GBRL, and Youth Leagues

CBO News and Notes

Bunker Hill and Concord Trade Minor League Teams

Influenced by the "Irish" theme of the Finches' franchise, Bunker Hill 75ers owner Lucy Abernathy announced that she wanted the teams' BMU and GBRL franchises to carry an American patriotic theme like that of the CBO team.

Therefore, Abernathy sent cash and supplies to Concord owner Sturges Freeman for the rights to its two franchises. Instead of changing uniforms, the teams will just swap affiliations.

The 75ers will now be the CBO affiliate of the BMU's Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials and the GBRL's South Boston Patriots. The Radstags are now the affiliate of the Arlington Caps of the BMU and the Westing Estates Gunslingers of the GBRL.

Players in each league are now on offseason break, but they will report to their new locations upon post preseason practices.

Starlight Still Looking for Logo

Fans in the Starlight area have joined the staff in not being excited about any of the alternatives proposed thus far. The Starlight Killers franchise is now reconsidering, including putting out the possibility that the team name could change.

Two new logos include a slasher in a hockey mask and a deranged-looking vaultboy. Logos have been attached at the end of this article. The Killers logo with the mask was presented in alternative colors.

Other possibilities that fans have requested are team names outside of the Killers name. Some proposals are:

Starlight Screamers - A nod to horror movies. This would also consider using the baseball eating a bat logo.

Starlight Stars - As a part of the settlement name and also as a nod to the large silver screen in the stadium's left field.

Starlight Valentines or Starlight Sleuths - Named in honor of Nick Valentine as the team's main sponsor.

There have also been other suggestions related to some of the movie titles. The only movie series not allowed would be characters from the Hubris Universe. Some older movies that have been popular include Another Day in the Monster Factory, The Barfly, and The Tomb of Amun-Ra.

Information from Irish Cait's office has only stated that no decision has been made but there will be a definitive answer no later than the 1st of the new year.

Sole Survivor Series Games 3, 4, and 5

Game 3: County Crossing 4 at Roxbury 9

Goodman Blasts Bloodbugs, Rad Sox Take Game 3, 9-4

The Roxbury Rad Sox have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading County Crossing Bloodbugs, winning 9-4 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury today. Rad Sox left fielder Young Goodman went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The win cuts the deficit facing the Rad Sox to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Sole Survivor Series.

In the bottom of the first, Goodman had one of his most important at-bats: a 2-run home run off Whip Lashley that staked the Rad Sox to a 2-0 lead.

"We came out aggressive," said Rad Sox manager Coffee Kupp. "We came out swinging the bats."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Game 4: County Crossing 6 at Roxbury 5, 10 inn.

Almost There: County Crossing On Cusp of Sole Survivor Series Triumph After 6-5 Win

With left fielder Kurt Kilgore leading the charge, the County Crossing Bloodbugs got past the Roxbury Rad Sox, 6-5, in extra innings in Game 4 of the Sole Survivor Series today. Kilgore was 3-5 with a home run and a double at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury as County Crossing managed to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 series.

County Crossing relied on the bat of Any Why to get the win. The center fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Bloodbugs ahead, 6-5. For the game, Why had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Why said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Notes: Gavin Eviritts ties the NCA playoff game record for walks with 8.

Game 5: County Crossing 4 at Roxbury 6

Roxbury Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2

Whokill Poole was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.

The left-hander pitched the Roxbury Rad Sox to victory at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury today, staving off the County Crossing Bloodbugs, who remain one game away from a title. Poole threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win cuts the series deficit for the Rad Sox to 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.

In the bottom of the first, Duncan MacCready delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Roxbury first baseman hit a 2-run single, putting the Rad Sox in front, 6-4.

"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Poole said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."

Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Beantown Brewery Stadium in County Crossing.

Roxbury has most certainly played better against the Bugs than anyone else. Game 6 is Laloosh vs Lashley, so Roxbury has a good chance in that one. Game 7 is the same matchup as Game 1: Rehfeldt vs Eviritts.

Sole Survivor Series Games 6 and 7

Game 6: Roxbury 1 at County Crossing 0

Rad Sox Clip Bloodbugs 1-0 in SSS Contest

The Roxbury Rad Sox and the County Crossing Bloodbugs will take the Sole Survivor Series to a decisive 7th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Rad Sox shut out the Bloodbugs 1-0 at Beantown Brewery Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Roxbury right-hander Nuke Laloosh did his part. He threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball.

Laloosh allowed no runs over 9 innings. He also racked up 9 strikeouts.

"A complete game shutout in the Sole Survivor Series?" an incredulous Laloosh said to reporters after the game. "Man, my arm could fall off tomorrow and I'd be happy with my career."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Beantown Brewery Stadium in County Crossing.

Game 7: Roxbury 1 at County Crossing 7

County Crossing Beats Roxbury in Sole Survivor Series

We have a new champion! It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious County Crossing Bloodbugs, that meant the Commonwealth Baseball Organization Sole Survivor Series trophy.

The Bloodbugs took a 7-1 victory over the Roxbury Rad Sox at Beantown Brewery Stadium, winning their 1st championship after taking the series 4-3.

"We've got grit," said Bloodbugs right fielder Babs Rooth, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."

Rooth was 3 for 5 with a double, two home runs, two runs, and three RBI. For the Sole Survivor Series, he was 14 for 31 (.452) with five home runs and nine RBI.

The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League and a 78-42 record.

2306 CBO Offseason

BNN Report

News from the CBO, MML, BMU, GBRL, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

20 October 2306

Offseason Begins

The 2306 season is now complete with the County Crossing Bloodbugs the new champions of the CBO. Now the offseason begins where teams will start making changes for the 2307 season.

Let us update some of the upcoming events.

Teams are now free to make trades to try to improve their CBO teams or beef up their minors. Rumors are swirling that there are a number of big deals in play, including some all-stars.

We also have a number of other changes, including the Finch Farm Four Leafs in the process of moving their headquarters to Nahant where they will become the Celtics. Minor league teams will also be the Finch Farm Shamrocks, the Brockton Irish, and the Lowell Leprechauns.

A few other swaps in place for minor league teams include Roxbury getting the rights to Revere Beach becoming the Shoremen, which Nahant used before. Diamond City will not also get the Clifton Vertibirds team that was part of the Finch Farm franchise before. Bunker Hill and Concord switched their BMU and GBRL teams, with the 75ers now having the rights to the Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials and the South Boston Patriots, while the Radstags get the rights to Arlington Caps and the Westing Estate Gunslingers.

Winter meetings will determine if there are any rules changes or planning for future updates. The CBO has plans to expand, so teams will spend part of their offseason preparing for that expansion, which could be as early as the 2308 season, according to Vice Commissioner Jimmy LaRue.

The draft will be held on November 5 with the first five currently projected to be CF Missile Crews (Goodneighbor), 3B Gavin Deux-Gas (The Slog), 3B Jacob Tarberry (Lexington), 1B Winslow Beaver (FHE), and 3B Keg Gutterson (Quincy). The mock draft is below with the official 1st round order.

2306 Rookie Draft: Analysis

This season marks just the second time that the CBO had a 15-round draft, and there was plenty of talent to go around. Whether or not teams develop the talent in their building is left to be seen. Let's analyze some of the top players taken in the draft and look at some of the players who could be CBO-quality not drafted.

1st Overall Pick - CF Missile Crews, Goodneighbor

Strong, speedy, a hard worker, Crews is one of those players considered to be a "can't miss." He now joins the Hancocks, who have had the 1st overall pick two straight seasons, after taking LF Handel Alone last season.

Scouting: Excellent pitch to bat skills means he should have a high average throughout. Body to build into a power hitter, also. Should steal several bases when on the field. Will be a top defender in the CBO even before his bat develops.

2nd Overall Pick - 3B Devin Deux-Gas, The Slog

Can play anywhere on the field but projected as a potential SS for the Ghouls. All-around talent but will not pursue a leadership or front-facing role in the organization. Shows up to play but not a part of the show.

Scouting: Good all-around tools on offense. Best at making contact and turning gap singles into doubles. Good range on defense should help him to play any position that is needed, which will help to keep him on the field every day.

3rd Overall Pick - RF Family Sam Partridge, Lexington

Some injury concerns from his final season at Boston Harbor raises some concerns for his long-term durability. Thankfully for the Synths, he will not be asked to run as much, probably manning either a corner OF spot or 1B. Needs consistent coaching to thrive but definitely among the most talented players in the draft.

Scouting: Tons of raw power that will develop in time to make him a constant home run threat. Good at putting bat to ball, which should see him hovering around the .275-.300 mark. Good hands on defense despite limited range. Can throw out runners trying to advance.

4th Overal Pick - SP Paul Stains, FHE

Throws the ball harder than almost all CBO pitchers for a longer amount of time could make him even better. Was granted an extra year at North Charles Bank to rehabilitate an arm injury. Came back his final season to strike out 236 batters in just 157.1 innings.

Scouting: Five pitches but nothing better than his blazing fastball. Good movement on his speed pitches but will need to work on more movement on slider and curve. Could be the quickest to move up of all the top picks since his arm is already considered CBO-quality.

5th Overall Pick - Keg Gutterson, Quincy

Big man who is much smarter than he looks. Has a heavy swing but considered to be smart at the plate. Will be able to adjust his swing as needed for the greatest amount of success at the plate.

Scouting: Plus-plus power. Could be a consistent .275/30/100 hitter for the Gunners. Sometimes strikes out when the intensity of the at bat is high, so needs some work on nerves. Not a stellar defensive player but could play a solid 3B or 1B in the CBO.

Other Picks of Interest by Round:

2nd round, 20th pick - SP Make Money, Roxbury

Struggled when adding new pitches to his repertoire in 2306, which dropped his stock significantly. The Rad Sox still took a flyer on him, showing that they think they can build him back up. He added a slider and sinker to his three other pitches, but got lit up a lot more when using those pitches. They got better later in the season, though.

Scouting: 5 pitches but the only two that make teams suffer are his changeup and fastball, Needs a lot of work on the other three pitches if he wants to start in the CBO. Can also use work on his control to not walk too many batters. Projected to be a two-times-through-the-lineup starter. Will not be effective in late innings.

3rd Round, 9th pick - CF Precious Puppy, Bunker Hill

Puppy was consistent throughout his youth league career with Andrew Station, batting .317 with 43 career home runs and 24 career stolen bases. Very coachable and was probably picked wau behind his potential.

Scouting: Expected to be a good contact hitter but can show power, too. Will want to reduce his strikeouts, but he can advance bases when he is on. Good defensively because of range but sometimes misplays line drives and grounders. Should be a CF but may need to move to a corner OF position if he makes too many mistakes.

Round 4, 19th Pick - 1B Pauwoo Leopardskin, University Point

Joins the same franchise that already has the best 1B in Barker Cocoa, but could emulate that playing style with the Deathclaws. Improved every season with Concord-Lexington, including hitting 26 home runs in 2306.

Scouting: Lacks the body to ever be a top-hitting 1B but could generate .250/20/70 type numbers. Probably more aligned to batting 6th or 7th. Lacks speed and not anything to write home about as a 1B. May need a lot of time to develop at another positon since 5'11" is too short for the CBO.

5th Round, 3rd Pick - C Queue Bear, Lexington

Considered to have 1st round talent as a catcher but fell to the 5th round despite hitting over .300 in his youth career at Castle. Coachable and able to process complicated requests without a hitch.

Scouting: Potential to be a top-hitting catcher in the CBO, especially if his power game progresses. It would make him similar to players like two other Institute League catchers, Sunshine Tiding's Red Sone and Fort Hagen's Sleve McDichael. Needs to upgrade defense to be an everyday catcher.

Round 6, Pick 22 - CF Jamell Pup, Sunshine Tidings

Projected to be a 1st or 2nd rounder but fell a lot in the actual draft by going 142nd overall to the Chemists. Had great hitting in the youth league with Woburn. Only played three years with the Diners but felt ready.

Scouting: Strength is in his bat. Will not play CF in the bigs because of his lack of range at that level. Could progress into a .300+ hitter in the CBO, and could develop power more. Overall good eye that helps him avoid strikeouts.

Round 7, Pick 23 - LF Alvin Treeshadow, Vault 81

Came on in his final season with West Dennis to show that he was draftable. Coaches raved about his work ethic and how he would do what it takes to make it on the field. Rewarded coaches' patience by hitting .316/21/66 his senior season.

Scouting: Showed a lot of improvement in pitch recognition, allowing him to drive the ball. Could be much better if he continues to progress. Will need a good hitting coach to develop into a CBO hitter. Also developing in his fielding but has shown the ability to snag difficult hits. Could be a steal.

Round 8, Pick 21 - CF Sandy Shaw, Easy Town

Liked by others but does not stand out in a crowd. A bit on the light side and not as fast as he should be as a CF, so will move to a corner OF spot in the minors.

Scouting: Overall a good all-around hitter but does not flash greatness, making him likely to be a 5th-rounder at best. Could develop hitting in the pros to become a hitter around .300. Could also develop into a power hitter but relies on most of his home runs barely clearing the fence. Will need to add mass. Not a reliable defender, which he will need to work on in rookie ball.

Round 9, Pick 11 - 3B Tuck Wilson, Fort Hagen

Lots of raw potential but seemed to regress in time with Thompson Heights, down from a high of .374/25/64 in 2304 to just .325/16/46 in 2306. Silver Shroud will need to turn that around.

Scouting: Great power potential could see him hitting 30+ homers in time. Drafted as a 3B but could play either corner IF spot well, which could earn him a spot in the majors in time. May be a long-term project needing a series of steady improvements. Surprisingly speedy for such a tall boy.

Round 10, Pick 6 - 1B Cory Perryman, Nahant

Interesting prospect who played only one season in youth league ball with Woodlawn. Did not play much but did bat .289 with 6 home runs and 24 RBI.

Scouting: Raw but with lots of power potential. Built for strength. Had a surprising amount of patience at the plate when scouted, watching bad pitches and hammering at good ones. Decent with the glove but slow enough and without an accurate arm, so he is probably 1B or bust.

Rounds 11-15, Round 14, 315th Overall - C Brave John Quest, Lexington

Another of those catchers who was expected to go way higher than he did. Showed lots of improvement in his senior season with South Charles Bank. Could develop into one of the CBO's better hitting catchers.

Scouting: Has a good spread of hitting zones and hit locations. Will surprise RFers edging too far toward CF. Potential increases in power and already decent at drawing high pitch count walks. Improved on defense his last season but still needs to progress to be a CBO catcher.

Undrafted - RF Clock Wilmsmeyer, Wellesley

Injury concerns took a 1st round talent and made him undrafted. Should catch on to a team that will give him the ability to develop over a long-term period.

Scouting: Could be an elite power hitter, with 50+ homer potential, even if we never saw that in the BYDL. Needs to get on the field more but can be imposing. Would be a Top 5 pick if he did play fully. Always seems to be banged up which also makes teams question his commitment. Won't play with a blister on his little toe. May need to clear his head to find success. Would sign if I were a CBO GM.

NCA Manager - Manager Crow Guai was speaking before a County Crossing fan luncheon when word came down that he'd been awarded the North Charles Association Manager of the Year. Guai's face turned to surprise as the club's owner made the hasty announcement.

"Wow... how lucky can a guy be? Manage a great bunch of guys... have great fans... have a great season... and now this... life don't get any better than this."

County Crossing fans applauded, recognizing how fortunate they were to have Guai at the helm. Both fans and players in attendance toasted their skipper as they truly enjoyed the day.

2306 was an extra-special season for Guai as he piloted the County Crossing Bloodbugs to a 78-42 record and a first place spot in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League standings. A record good enough to win the 2306 Manager of the Year Award.

SCA Manager - Vault 81 manager Dan Ferreri caused quite a stir when he came to town. Noted for his feisty, no-nonsense attitude, Ferreri threw his all into the 2306 campaign, winning over critics and fans as he went. He also won a few ballgames, running up a 77-43 record, which was good enough to take the first place spot in the South Charles Association Railroad League standings.

"These guys are grown men. They don't need psychobabble, they need to win ballgames," Ferreri snapped at his first press conference. While his approach was controversial, even for Vault 81, it netted the 45-year-old the South Charles Association Manager of the Year trophy. In response to which he replied, "It ain't molecular physics, it's baseball," and began discussing potential free agents with the local media.
