Question about timing of job

I want to take control of the Marlins the year they come into the league. I started a historical sim, but the team was already selected when the game began and I wanted to do the expansion draft.

In order to do that, do I need to start a year sooner, run the sim without a job and then once that season ends and the job opens up apply for it? Is there another way that will allow me to do the expansion draft as the GM?

Thanks, was hoping for a different option because this won't allow me to choose from the real expansion list.

Don't think I can do a true sim as the Marlins expansion then.
