Wabba's Custom Jersey Template

Wabba's Custom Jersey Template

Hey everyone!

Since starting working on the NHA custom universe, a few people have asked for the jersey template I've been using. I finally got around to making it ready to share and I'm excited for you guys to start using it too!

Currently this template contains:
- 20 collar styles
- 2 jersey folds styles
- 9 jersey texture overlays
- 20 stitching patterns (all from HockeyPlaya13's template)
- 3 shoulder design styles
- and a bunch of guides to help you navigate the jersey!

There's also a readme text file in the download link that gives a bit of instructions in case the file is a little confusing.

I plan on adding more collar styles and textures, so if you have any that you want me to add let me know! Also planning on doing a bunch of retro collars eventually.

Credits:
Hockey13Playa for the original template that I worked off of.

TemplateFC for the texture layer styles. Find more of their work here!

Oh cool! Can't wait to mess around with this a bit. Looks great from a quick look!

So I'm more versed in Illustrator and don't use Photoshop/ GIMP as much. Is there a way to change a color globally? Like if I wanted to make Color 1 "Blue" is there a way to make everything using that part of the palette the same color.

I've always just gone through and changed each color separately for each element.

Either way, this is great thanks!

Honestly that sounds super useful, but as far as I know it's not possible. I did a quick google search to see if it was a feature Photoshop has, but I wasn't really able to find anything. Is it possible to do in illustrator?

I'm not home right now, so will check out template when I get home. But is all color 1 on the same layer? If so you could double-click the layer in the white space to the right of the layer icons (or right-click and pick "blending options") in the resultant dialog, select "color overlay" from the left-hand pane, and then double click the red color swatch to change the color.

Will download template when I get home to see how it's layed out and see if I can find a better solution.

Its really easy to do a universal color change in Illustrator but my quick searches have kind of come up like yours did when it came to Photoshop. It seems like it would be possible but I can't for the life of me figure out how.

I'm pretty sure all of the various elements are on different layers. But thanks for checking, maybe there's a way!

You are correct. Looked at it last night. Unfortunately I don't believe there's anyway to do what you want in Photoshop, if there is i've never found it/used it. If you put everything on one layer you can change all that layer to a color but that could affect how stuff blends together if you move it above or below a different layer.

I don't mind something taking a long time to do as long as that's the way to do it. I didn't want to be working my way though a jersey and editing each piece of it slowly only to find out there's some super fast way to do it.

Thanks for checking it out for us.

You can totally do this if the template is made correctly. I have an updated template that I never have uploaded or shared yet. It has many retro collars, updated collars and I have eliminated the useless stitching layers as they look terrible. (I actually red did my entire NHL historical project with these new collars and many small adjustments)

But anyways, that is how my template is. Every layer is a shape. Like illustrator (which I also use), you select the shape and select your color and don't have to do any weird overlays or blends or any nonsense like that. You can also stretch, shrink, scale, etc shapes and they don't become pixelated like everything in this template or most elements in photoshop.

I made mine in Illustrator and have duplicated into Photoshop. I will have to get around to updating the latest and greatest version.

Just providing a visual of the Minnesota jersey - you can see the layer I have selected on the right. I just double click and it pops up with the color selection and you change your color/shade etc. This goes for the jersey, the collar, all elements of the jersey.

Sounds great H13P! I was actually contemplating how to use Illustrator but this sounds like a more elegant solution. I'd love to see your template when you are ready to share it. Sounds promising!

Hey Wabba,

Just getting a chance to play around with your template. First off, as noted above Photoshop isn't my normal design environment, so forgive me if this is something really simple that I'm missing...

Should there be anything in the "Designs" folder? Is that the same thing as the "Detailing" folder that you reference in the Read Me but I can't seem to find?

Edit.... Also meant to say I really appreciate this! Especially the "Visible Area" selection, so freaking helpful!

ah thanks for pointing that out! i definitely forgot to rename the "detailing" thing to "designs" lol. but yeah that folder is meant to be empty when you start, its where you'd put all your stripes and designs on the jersey to keep it organized in one folder

also im glad you like the guides!!

Thanks! Enjoying this so far and I really need more excuses to learn Photoshop. Its crazy how different Illustrator and Photoshop can be. But here's a little test run and I'm pretty pleased, the visibility guide is so helpful, in the past I either had my logos too low or right up next to the collar ha!

OK, so another thing I've wondered about these templates, yours and Hockeyplayas and some of the ones floating around on OOTP....

Why aren't the logo and badge templates converted to "Smart Objects?" It seems a little too simple and so now I'm afraid you all haven't done this for a reason?

the only reason I did it is because I think (?) smart objects use a bit more processing power than regular layers. and since the template logos/patches i have in there are just simple circles, i figured i might as well make them regular layers just in case

for you own logos and stuff, i recommend using smart objects for sure

also just noticed this, but make sure you have the BG layer turned off when saving out your image file. the black background causes those visual bug issues around the collar where the undershirt pokes through the jersey.

I updated the template file to no longer have that background layer just to be safe

Ah cool, I noticed those and literally assumed I just needed to clean my monitor! I'll download the new version.

I'll update mine for smart objects. One of those moments I was afraid there was a reason you weren't using them.

Thanks again, life calls for now but I'm looking forward to playing around with this some more tonight!
