Hi all, this is my first new OOTP since '21 and I'm loving the improvements so far but I'm having some issues with how my relievers are being deployed and it's pretty much the same problems I've always had. In my last game we had a 3-0 lead through six and my starter had hit the wall. We were coming off of an off day, so the entire bullpen was available; here's how we were set up:
A 3-run lead with nobody on base is a vanilla Middle Reliever scenario to me; what I'd like to see there is one of them starting the inning, and then if things get hairy one of the shutdown guys can come in. I have both Bednar (RHP) and Chapman (LHP) as Stoppers because I have it set to place a fairly heavy emphasis on L/R matchups for my pitchers. However, the AI brought in Chapman to start the 7th and and Bednar to start the 8th (and then left him in to finish the game), which is not the type of high-leverage scenario I'm envisioning for them as you can see from the Leverage Index here:
What I'm looking to accomplish is to have Bednar and Chapman pitch in tie games/1-run games, close games with runners on base, etc. High leverage scenarios, in short.
Maybe one of those two can pitch the 9th for a cheap-ish save there, since both were completely fresh, but there's no reason at all for both of my top relievers to pitch in a 3-run game and definitely not for two innings. Can anyone offer some advice on how to set up my roles to get that to work? Thanks in advance!
