Historical Players Issue/Bug?
I started a historical replay in 1919. I set ratings to be based on a 3 year average, and changed these settings, so a player like Joe Jackson can continue past his IRL ban.
![]() It is now 1932. What has seemed to happen is that players who have careers cut short never seem to regress or retire. I should've taken a screenshot, but I just had to manually retire around 30 players, all 42+ years old, still in the prime of their careers. I should've taken a screenshot of the active players list before I did this, but here's one guy I manually retired, cruising along at 47: ![]() And here's his scouting history, never regressing at all:

That has been going on since I began playing with ootp 12. There is no real good solution. You either have to put development on as well as recalc (which can hurt an older player still playing say Ruth in 1934 or Bonds in 2007) when the development just drops their ratings, or you have to do my way over the years, which is keep a list of players like Bill Keister and whatnot, and then manually edit thier totals down after the last season.
That is about the solutions |

Possible solution: I can't say for sure if this will work in OOTP 25, but I recall several versions ago that the solution for this situation is to play with Development ON, but set Talent Change Randomness to 1. As far as how players develop, this is basically like playing with Development OFF, but with Development ON and TCR set to any level, players will then age realistically... Again, this is based on testing a few years back. Certainly worth testing out now

Does 25 still default to 3 year recalc development on? There's a reason for defaults. Change at your own risk.

For what I understand this is an issue with recalc because there are no stats for the game to base anything on once the person retires or is suspended, dies, or career ending injury. You can not play historical alternate worlds using recalc. YOU must use the OOTP dev engine which means, you need to setup this type of world using the historic career wizard. This aint a bug, it's that the game has nothing to base the player on! When you use recalc you MUST use retires, quits playing when they die, get suspended, or career ending injury "according to history", otherwise there is no longer anything to base the player on where with the OOTP dev engine, that takes age into account and regresses players.
Hope this fixes your issue.

This is too harsh a statement. thehef has it right. If you want natural aging instead of a fixed "Retire According to History", you turn Development ON, TCR to 1, Retire According to History "OFF" and the Recalc setting to your preference (1/3/5).
