Andrew Saalfrank could use an improved facegen, one with a jaw.

Andrew Saalfrank

He began the year in Double-A Amarillo as a sort of interesting but unheralded relief prospect. He finished in the World Series as a member of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen, having gained the trust of manager Torey Lovullo by turning in 10 scoreless appearances in the regular season. After logging a 2.53 ERA in 64 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A, Saalfrank was brought to the big leagues in early September and quickly thrived, eliciting a healthy rate of swinging strikes on both his low-90s fastball and his sharp-breaking curveball.

He got himself in trouble in the National League Championship Series by issuing seven walks in five appearances against a patient Philadelphia Phillies lineup. He got back to throwing strikes against the Texas Rangers in the World Series, and wants to be sure he keeps that same approach this spring. - AZcentral.com

A question guy... would you like it if I post the players I do for the Universal pack by year in place of waiting to have a decade completed? Notice that those files would be temporary since I delete them when the decade is completed...

Also that would give me a chance to post some picture to show example of what will be included in a future pack update.

I subbed to the workshop and installed it within the game. Is it normal for many prospects to not have photos? Guys like Jackson Holliday, Jeferson Quero to name a couple.

If they exist what am i doing wrong?

Usually, prospects are done by request. I did my Jackson H the other day and no one had asked for a Quero yet. But I can do him. Eventually if a prospect advances far enough, even as a minor leaguer, he will get put on the MLBPA license list and actually ship with the game. The MLBPA is behind on giving OOTPD the list for this season though so prospects that are on it are running behind. So, I am waiting until I get the list.

ok so it's completely normal for him to not be in the downloaded set then?

I thought in years past I had a image for Holliday and many of the Brewers prospects. I can't speak for others because memory doesnt remember.

In the Complete Universe Pack (versus my smaller subset) there may be one - I confess I took your word for it and didn't go searching for them. But by the end of April when I refresh and repost the pack, any Jackson or Jeferson in there will be replaced with the Jackson I just posted and the Jeferson that I'll post shortly. Never hesitate to ask for one though. I mean, don't drop a list of the Top 100 on my head but if there are key ones you'd like, ask away and I'll work them in as I can. These two are probably on the MLBPA list, so I'd probably be getting to both of them in the weeks ahead anyway.

Appreciate the response. Dont need to go out your way if they'll likely be included in due time.

Jeferson Quero

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Arm: 60 | Field: 70 | Overall: 55

Signed for $200,000 out of Venezuela in July 2019, Quero has established himself as one of the game’s top catching prospects, leading to a spot on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster this past offseason. After solid showings at Single-A, High-A and the Arizona Fall League in 2021, the 5-foot-11 backstop spent the entire 2023 campaign with Double-A Biloxi and hit .262/.339/.440 with 16 home runs over 90 games. He was one of only two 20-year-old catchers to get more than 33 plate appearances at Double-A, and he blew that total out of the water with 381, during which he posted an above-average 107 wRC+.

Quero won a well-deserved 2023 Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award as he’s developed into arguably the Minors’ best defensive catcher. His receiving and blocking – aided by his right-knee-down positioning – can be top-notch, and his framing can look as smooth as it gets. His arm strength and quick reactions behind the plate also helped him throw out 34.6 percent of attempted Double-A basestealers, and those skills should help him limit opposing running games at a time when steals are taking off across baseball.

While the right-handed slugger did struggle with chasing some sliders and changeups in the Southern League, Quero still projects for average hit and power tools with the capability to pull homers down the left-field line and spray doubles the opposite way. The glovework alone would make him a regular starter in the Majors, while the bat could push him closer to All-Star catcher level. Assuming health, he could be on track for a second-half MLB debut in 2024 once he establishes himself at Triple-A Nashville. - MLB.com Pipeline

Here you go. I had to work around the smile.

Jacob Misiorowski

Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 55 | Slider: 70 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 40 | Overall: 55

After finishing third in NJCAA Division I with 136 strikeouts over 15 appearances for Crowder (Mo.) Junior College in 2022, Misiorowski went in the second round to the Brewers that July and ended up signing for Milwaukee’s largest bonus of the class at $2.35 million. It already looks like a solid investment after the 6-foot-7 right-hander’s breakout 2023 campaign. He ranked fifth in the Minors with a 35 percent K rate (min. 70 IP) while climbing from Single-A to Double-A but was shut down in late August with what the club called arm fatigue after only 71 1/3 innings.

In terms of stuff, Misiorowski is easily one of baseball’s most electric prospect arms. He wowed in the Futures Game by touching 102.4 mph and generally sits in the upper 90s with a heater that starts from his low three-quarters slot and explodes up in the zone. His wicked mid-80s slider breaks hard and late with good depth and can generate impressive swing-and-miss, making it another plus-plus pitch in his arsenal. He started adding back his curveball to play off his feel for spin after not needing it much in college. He hasn’t used much of his changeup to this point, but it’s at least another option.

After experiencing walk issues at the lower levels, Misiorowski issued free passes to 15 percent of the batters he faced with Biloxi as Double-A hitters knew to lay off his weapons outside the zone. Because of those concerns, some evaluators think he’s a future closer, and he could be a right-handed version of Josh Hader. But the possibility that Misiorowski could keep this arsenal in a starting role with even slight control improvements remains all too enticing. - MLB Pipeline

Hope this will do for now, jmuelly.

Well, nothing like a new thread to bring me out of hiding!

(I'm lying. My resurfacing is a complete coincidence.)

For this iteration of a (likely futile) attempt to get back to regular gameplay, I chose the 1979 Mariners, on the theory that some of the groundwork of getting facegens for the near-misses had already been done, back in the days of my original 1980 Texas sim. (O lost!)

And indeed, the M's first exhibition game was against the Red Sox (because even v.22 still doesn't understand about Grapefruit League v. Cactus League) and familiar near-Sawx like Chet Brooks and Russ Larribee (Southington CT's own) were in the game. And, thanks to your previous work, so were their faces.

But of course, there are always more.

Russell Lee Pruitt of Pine Bluff AR attended the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, and was drafted in 6th Round of the 1979 January draft by Boston. (Honestly, I thought the January draft was already gone by then.) He had a fine rookie year as an Elmira Pioneer (.883 OPS), and got his face on a TCMA card.

Of course, after that nice debut, he never posted anything over .800 again, nor got beyond AA, but in a 1979 game, the AI doesn't know about that particular anti-climax. Have fun!

Usually I don't do minor leaguers but since I'm here... I used the picture in your post (just run a basic coloring and close the mouth), not the best material to work with but I think the result isn't too bad.

And since I don't play with minor leagues your guy made the big league with Boston

Thanks! I really think your work has improved. (I was hardly in a place to complain, as none of the programs run on my Mac, but I thought your first efforts were a bit squinty.) Much appreciated.

Is Mike Kingery's player ID correct?

Here's what BB-Ref uses: kinger001mic

I think his Facegen file uses: kinger001mik

Not there yet... I'm in 1961 so I can't verified in the game but the id is certainly wrong (mik is the old format that populated the game when the minor league id was put in place some version ago) and not corrected because neither Lans or me did him. For now change him for kinger001mic and I will do him after completing 1961 unless Lans do him for you first.
