Righthander Lewis Hampton, non-MLE candidate, wins trifecta in 1921. Pitchers are definitely coming in hot, an issue that's been reported/fixed(?) in OOTP25. I'm curious, how did his clone do in the alternate, treatment universe of 1921? In real life, he had a good second season in 1922, but otherwise he looks to have been an average pitcher who bounced around.

He's a non-candidate so I didn't curate him in the Treatment.

Still, he didn't do quite so well as in the Control.

A handy rookie season but nothing like that freakish one in the Control.

Interestingly, he's about 10 ratings points higher in the Control.

And BTW I don't clone the candidates, I merely edit the original guys each season.

1922 Control Recap

From here on I am going to separate the yearly recaps into Control, Treatment and Draft posts so as to keep the news feed coming through and also to limit the image file sizes, which are getting overly large with so many candidates.

1923 Treatment Recap (final)

OK, so I think I have taken this as far as is useful for now. Two points are abundantly clear for me:
  1. My process for hitters needs a bit more work but is basically ready for the final few steps to be implemented.
  2. My process for pitchers needs to be totally rethought and reworked.

I'm going to go away now and draw up a new plan of attack. This exercise had the fundamental flaw of introducing a bunch of high-quality players en masse into a structure that really couldn't handle them all. So it has given we plenty of food for thought but wasn't really of much use because players by and large - both NeL and MLB - weren't getting the sort of usage they would have in a setup tailored to handle this influx and were having their stats impacted by there not being enough counting stats to go around.

So I am going to come at it from a slightly different angle that should alleviate this issue and allow me to progress my own work at the same time; namely by tackling each candidate individually.

I am henceforth going to continue this project on v25, and will start a new thread on the appropriate board in due course.

The way the game handles these players within the historical minors framework is far worse than I had previously realised. Sadly, there's nothing I can do about that other than point out the errors as I have done here and elsewhere and trust we will eventually see things where we all know they can and should be.

All the same, I am going to continue with my own work in the hope that it will be of some utilitarian value at some point, either in a direct or indirect way. Worst case, I get a lot of satisfaction from advancing my own work in this regard and have a lot of fun in the process.

To tie a bow on this bad boy, here is the 1923 Control recap.

Hopefully see you across in the new thread, which I have changed the link in my sig to.
