Waiver Wire Insanity

Experiencing a weird issue where CPU teams are frequently putting players on Waiver Wire.

Currently in day 1 of Free Agency Filings. There are 27 players on Waiver Wire with 45 or higher assumed ratings on the 20-80 scale. Found multiple players who were claimed off the waiver wire by 3 or more teams in the same season. This issue started within the past season or two in this franchise. I am in 2032.

I am playing with slightly smaller secondary rosters, 35 instead of 40. I used this setting in most of my earlier years' games and had never seen this much activity on the wire.

You have made it so there are 150 less secondary roster spots available throughout the league, so you've created a roster crunch and I am not surprised there are more players on waivers as a result.

This was exactly my first thought at well.

I understand, but I made this change in the first season. I am now year 9, and this issue started in 7 or 8.

I suspect it has more to do with the way players develop in the game. There are 411 players with an assumed rating of 50 or higher, which is about 12 players for each of the 34 teams. Less talented players could lead to more roster turnover.

Note: 2 expansion teams started play in 2025 as part of a game initiated story line.

No, it is a new game I created in OOTP 25 after installing the latest patch (25.2 Build 53).

It might have to do with players entering the DSL earlier in this version and therefore becoming rule 5 eligible earlier and needing a spot on the 35-man earlier leading to a meltdown.

Why do you think it's necessary to reduce the size of the 40-man? It already feels tight to me.

Yeah, you really can't reduce without the AI starting to "thrash" the roster.

In past years when the Active roster was 25, the game AI had fits trying to meet the rules w/o constantly thrashing the roster. It was frustrating to say the least.
In fact, some players like increasing the 40-man or active rosters to give the AI some "room" before freaking out about meeting needs and who to keep, etc.

Not to be pushy, but your experience above is a warning that the game won't react well to reduction of the 40-man. I have never found it worthwhile.

One option if you really want to reduce the roster sizes is just to turn off the waiver rule. Then players who refuse their assignment get released. And if you don't like that, you can disable their right to refuse.

Watching the waiver wire adds so much tedium to the game for me, so I am all for ditching it.

It also means clubs can freely outright players to the minors without risk of losing them.
