Owners and Team Budget

It seems like a team's budget never goes up. I raise ticket prices, my market size gets bigger and my owners drops my budget by $14 million?!? Owners that are cheap take $100 million from a team's budget but generous owners still take $5 million?!? No owners actually invest in the team budget. I've resorted to going into commissioner mode and changing my team's budget as my players get better but my owner takes more. Is this another bug I have to post in the bug forum like the jenky schedules? I love OOTP but this year's basic game has some challenges that are very frustrating.

What is your owner's financial rating? An owner with a very high spending rating will keep pumping the budget higher and higher as long as the income is there. A cheapskate owner will often cut the budget, even when they're pocketing insane amounts of money every year.

No this is a problem that a lot of people are talking about on the subreddit. I’ve not gotten far enough into a save yet to experience it but don’t doubt there is something wonky going on. People say that after 5 or so years most teams are in the red and budgets are slashed all over the place.

It's definitely noticeable this year. I've never had issues navigating a budget like I have in this version. I have to go into Commish mode every once in a while to give myself more funds.

Make the owner 30-40 million in profit, go into the offseason and my budget for player development, scouting, etc. is slashed and there's no available cash and the budget didn't go up even after a fairly successful year. Happens with consistency.

The last patch adjusted some of the owner budget calculations.

Some of the cases the owners will take all your money because you are forced to drop down to within the cash max limit set in the league settings. Sometimes owners just aggressively take a lot.

So if I set my league's cash maximum to no maximum, will that solve the problem with at least some owners? I've changed owners' profiles to the most generous setting and they still take money!!! I've never seen this (or the bad schedule problems) in the standard game for the decade I've been playing OOTP. I feel like I'm cheating when I have to go into commissioner mode to change my budget but it's become a routine part of my offseason in OOTP 25. I don't have the patience to do it for every team, every offseason

Sounds like you're playing with settings you don't like. Don't blame the game for a setting you're choosing to use though - go into the settings and change it so your entire revenue is available to you if you don't want to be subject to greedy owners.

The other thing is, do you realize what budgets are based on? At no time have you mentioned Fan Interest and that is a massive factor when it comes to budgets. Budgets are based on revenue. If you don't like your budget, increase your revenue. If you don't know how, git good.

I'm playing with the same settings as always, out of the box settings...no need to be so rude Cheddah. There is a difference in the game this year, whatever that might be. Get good lol...is this an Olympic sport? I'm playing with the Reds. My fan interest is 75, up from the 50s. I simmed unemployed 2024 and took over in 2025, went 95-68, lost in one game playoff to lose the division to the cubs (so I know how to change settings, which are set to NOT have tiebreaker games but I like tiebreaker games). After that season, my budget was lowered. Before the last patch I played with the Rockies. Playoffs every year, signed Tovar etc to long terms deals, moved up fan interest every year and every year my owner lowered my budget. I started with a budget of $224 million in 2025 and by 2032 my budget was $172 million. And thats making the playoffs every year, so screw you Cheddah...get good lol. And playing with no owner controlling the budget would seem to give huge advantages to big market teams so I'm leery of trying that.

At no point was I rude. This is not a good fan interest, certainly not one where you could expect your budget to stay the same or go up.

As mentioned, change your budget setting to have all revenue available to you and it will fix your problem.

I am still pretty new to OOTP and have been watching a lot of playthrough videos and have not noticed this problem in the year to year budget settings. Most I have seen have gone up, not by much but it's always up to now seemed pretty reasonable. I started my own playthrough a couple of days ago so will report back what I find when the new budget is set.
