I've been looking for a picture of Candy Maldonado in a Rangers uniform for probably 10 years with no luck. Finally found a game of his with the rangers in 1995 via this youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzgzUh2Jp9E

This is the best picture I got. Someone else may be able to pull a better one.

Was looking at the RMY catalog again, and there was a picture of Tillie Walker with the Athletics. Of course, there are a good number of those, and a few from his days with the Red Sox and even some from his debut with Washington.

But all I can find from Tillie's time with the Browns (1913-1915) is his 1915 Crackerjacks card, and that's a drawing, and it's inaccurate on at least two counts. (It has the colored collar but not the colored cap-brim, and the color on the collar is blue, rather than the proper [given the team name] brown, as Dressed to the Nines depicts the uniform.)

Can anyone find a photograph of Tillie in St. Louis? Toy surprise not required.

Walker's M101-4 and M101-5 cards, shown below, respectively, both picture him with the Browns.

Excellent, Scott! Thanks!

(Once again, I forget to check the TCDB before asking. One of these days, I'll learn. I swear it…)

So the picture on the right is clearly Comiskey…is the one on the left from there as well (note the similar arched window), only before they built the outfield seating? Interesting if so.

Ooh, nice!

(If Dressed to the Nines is to be believed, this has to be from 1913 or 14. The colored collar was gone in 1915, allegedly.)

Good enough, perhaps?
Hi,

Thanks for your effort in finding the Joe Lahoud photo. I have to find a way to get rid of that orange face and add a little bluish-gray to the basic uniform. I have a 1974 Horacio Pina photo sorta like tthat and I mentioned to my baseball email group that I'm NOT giving up on that yet. I'll probably try to use the filters tool in Paint Shop Pro 16. When I get it ready for a portrait for MVP 2005, I'll attach in here so you can see my results.

Thanks again!

Lahoud

AI might yet kill us all but in the interim it is surprisingly helpful on color re-balancing

Marty Honan 1890

Here's a nice upgrade for Honan as pictured in the 3/15/1891 edition of the Minneapolis Star Journal. He was recommended by Cap Anson to the manager of Minneapolis as a reliable catcher and they gave him a tryout early in the season.

Bob Wilson 1958

Nearly everything we have of this onetime Newark Eagle and '58 Dodger is in a BROOKLYN cap and uniform...

Here's a couple of him in the correct garb

Fairly sure these are J.D. McCarthy shots; he periodically traveled to Chicago to shoot there, especially in the 1956-62 era.

McCarthy did love including CF scoreboards in his shots, whether in Detroit or Chicago, it's true. Thanks!

Besides Brad Wellman, another brief 1980s Dodger 2B I've discovered is Michael Jeffrey Ramsey, the longtime Cardinal utility man, who had a final cup in the Blues in early 1985.

(I guess they had to run him out of town before Michael James Ramsey, outfielder, came out of the farm system, as he would in 1987. Nowadays, you'd just put "Ramsey" on the backs of both of their jerseys and let the fans sort it out, but back then it would have been agony trying to figure out how to distinguish the two on the uniforms, not to mention for Vin Scully in the booth.)

Mike Jeff has lots of Cardinals images and some cards from his time in Montreal, where he was traded in mid-1984, but I can't find him as a Dodger thus far. (As with Wellman, that 1990 "All-time Dodgers" set uses a non-LA image.) Any help, or is he a white whale in Steve Sax's surprisingly-large shadow?

Chief Bender 1903

Rooting around in an old (2018) RMY Auctions archive, and here is an image of Bender with the 1917 Phillies that is IMO a significant improvement over previous Phillies pics in this thread (pgs 272, 1200).

Photo by the American Press Association. I've removed the sepia and sharpened the image, as I tend to do.

Mike Parrott 1977

I'm sorry, but I just don't trust that 1991 Crown Orioles picture of Parrott. It smells like a Seattle image, with a redone hat.

Fortunately, this picture from Parrott's page at the Ventura County (CA) Sports Hall of Fame seems to be the real Bird. albeit likely from Spring Training of that year:

Name: Mike Parrott BAL Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame bw.jpeg
Views: 368
Size: 271.6 KB

Not in color and not head-on, but still an improvement, IMO. (I lightened the shadows and sharpened the pic a bit.)

Fun Fact: Parrott was the International League MVP before his September call-up. I didn't know that.

Also, while we're mentioning brief 1977 O's, I may as well ask if anybody has an Ed Farmer. Unlikely, with his only having one game for Baltimore (even Parrott had three), but it can't hurt to ask.

(I hope. If somebody beats me up for making the request, I'll be bummed.)

Here's a color photo of Farmer with the O's during 1978 spring training, as offered by Kyle's Sports Cards about nine years ago (previously shared by Merkle here), and a B&W during spring training 1977, which was much more recently offered by Larry Fritsch Cards.

There's also a TV image, shared by Merkle here, and there's one more Farmer/Orioles image, taken by Merkle, which he may be willing to share again.

Nice! Guess I should have checked for myself, rather than taking the word of that Orioles card creator whom I ran across while looking for Parrotts (he used the Crown Parrott pic I disdain, but had nothing with a hat for Farmer), and just passing on his despair.

In other words…I guess I shouldn't have Parrotted him. (Ouch! Sorry.)

Thanks.

Jack Glasscock 1879

(Still from the same auction, and de-browned and sharpened, once more.)

I have no idea what Pebbly Jack (who would turn 70 that summer) was doing in an Indians uniform in 1927. He wasn't a coach, and "Old-Timers' Day" and such had yet to be invented, as I understand it.

Name: Jack Glasscock 1927.jpeg
Views: 301
Size: 365.5 KB

But here he is, showing those wimpy whippersnappers that they don't need no darned gloves. REAL men use their hands, see?

Jack stuck around for another 20 years, long enough to see himself get the same % of the 1936 Hall of Fame vote (when everyone, anytime was eligible) as latter-day Clevelander Nap Lajoie. The 6th man ever to reach 2000 hits, he won a batting title and was one of the best barehand fielders in the game…but we can't say he would have won a Golden Glove, exactly. A Golden Callous, perhaps?
