I’m fine with keeping Skubal but that means they need to buy bats or trade some prospects for some. If you continue the draft and development game you miss the window of Skubal’s best years.

27 (Skubal) / 28 (Flaherty) is the new 32, apparently.

It is all about perspective. This team does not have legitimate position players. I didn’t call either of these players old in the baseball sense. The starting pitching has been great but they do not have many legitimate position players to take advantage of what they have. If you want to build around the arms then great, go get some players because waiting for Max Clark (who may never pan out) is going to burn their best years. This team has not shown they are willing to do that. They operate as a poor cash strapped team and sell that message to their fan base. I actually never said to trade anyone for more prospects. I just felt like I should respond since the last two commenters wanted to put words in my mouth.

I'll buy that. Would the Mets part with Alonzo for Mize, a bullpen arm and a propecty player?

Depends if a) the Mets reach actual contention, not "there are 9 sucky teams for two spots, maybe we'll get lucky in October" and b) does Uncle Stevie delude himself that they have a chance to re-sign Peeete, despite the complete lack of movement on that front and how he now has an easy escape route at year's end.
I'd make the trade in a heartbeat. (I'd curse the idiots who failed to lock Pete up years ago, but that's icebergs under the bridge at this point.) But I'm not Uncle Stevie, as you can tell from the fact that I can't afford a trip to Citi Field [for the Def Leppard-Journey-Steve Miller show on August 7] and he owns the park. So, who knows? |

How about this:
Pete Alonzo for: Casey Mize (27 year old starter) Will Vest (29 year old bullpen arm) Justice Bigbie (#11 Det prospect OF) Detroit signing him is of course an issue. Dream move - trade Javy for a bag of balls and eat lion's share of his salary or DFA him and just eat it all.

I'd die inside, but if it's that or NOTHING, which I've been afraid of for years now, what can I do? I'm all with The Who ("I'd pay any price just to have you, surrender my good life for bad") here, but Pete hired Scott Boras for A Reason, and Boras demanded a one-year deal that leaves Pete completely free to walk for that same Reason…Pete is going to go free agent at year's end.
And it's not as if Uncle Stevie and Boras have a good relationship…the entire fandango with Charlie Oppenheimer Jr* two years ago makes me seriously doubt Boras has any interest in keeping Polar Pete in his cave. (*-that's my name for Carlos Correa. Sorry about the thread-jacking, btw.) |

Who is on the Detroit trade list ?
Tyler Holton LHP ? Joey Wentz LHP ? Spencer Torkelson ? Kerry Carpenter ? Casey Mize RHP ? Riley Green ? Ty Madden RHP ? Trei Cruz ? are you trading a catcher ? Jack Flaherty RHP ---- signed to one year contract And What would you look for ? Do you think anyone would take Baez contract --- he is owed almost 90 million ? Do you look at the young pitching and think '69 Mets ?

Everyone listed except Green and Carpenter. Try to get one or two legitimate bats in return, call up all the prospects, and see what they've got.
If they trade Skubal, I quit.

Have you heard about the Craig Monroe allegations? I guess that may be why we haven’t seen him on the broadcast of late. If you haven’t google it. I don’t want to post links to something like that.

Yikes.
(I doubt Rod Allen is about to claim that choking out Mario isn't so bad, relatively speaking, but I wonder if the thought hasn't crossed his mind…) |

Unfortunately, Kenta Meata is a batting practice pitcher at this point. DFA, call up Matt Manning please.

The murmer has been that he is ready to come back for a try. I want to see a bunch of demotions, some DFA's, a trade for a legitimate bat, and everyone that is remotely prospecty called up.
Kenta fits in that DFA slot. He is unfortunately no longer an MLB starter
